Christian was really obnoxious and rude, the way he spoke to Jane was really disgusting, it just shows the fact he had no respect for Mark or the reputation of the Grosvenor 👎
I bet all of the staff on reception with the terrible attitude were quick to start pointing blame when the place was sold and they all got laid off
The reception staff are there worse in the hotel .

I've worked reception/front desk agent jobs before at short and long stay hotels. Very nice job. In the US the branded hotels often offer health insurance which is amazing as life without health insurance in the states usually ends you up in some sort of debt after getting very ill with something one time in your life. Then you just have to build your own casket and have your friends help bury you alive just to get away from that hospital bill.
Any company that asks for help and then becomes defensive and can not take constructive criticism is bound to fail. It shows a total unwillingness to change

True, however from my perspective as my profession is a wedding photographer, I have seen this time and time again at weddings and if the guy is known to be like that with drink and the guest/friend/family member is aware, they are basically fuelling a fire that cannot be controlled without the aid of something (wife). So I can understand her annoyance and for me drinking early on your wedding day is a big NO NO!!! However you are right, he is a grown up and should know better but we have to look at his personality too
@@jonbw12 If the groom is an alcoholic, then maybe dont serve alcohol... Or force him to take some disulfiram before the ceremony. Its ultimately the grooms responsibility. The bride shouldnt have married him either if she is going to get angry with his friends over him not controlling his alcohol intake. But that is probably why she is marrying him, because she knows he is weak-willed and easy to control, just like her brainwashed son.

Christian! gees! he is appalling! Self righteous, rude and incompetent! I totally agree about the staff smoking, it's a shocking display.I do think the hotel has some endearing qualities but mostly it's a 2011 nightmare.

Imagine going to a hotel and finding 3 staff smoking at the the entrance then the chaos at reception, 29 quid rooms that are 120 quid, amateurish Manager, etc etc.
Cute little old couple though, they seem happy with each other. Happy for them.

Agree. The guy obviously has a serious drinking problem and I can't see a happy end to this story and it's too bad since she seems to be a genuinely nice woman. Her son is aces!

this serie with the manager Mark was the best of all. I miss watching him now. so i return to old episode. please tell us what is happening with that man now, he is so special

That's right! Don't cater to the rich. Cater to the middle class of travelers. The middle of the road vacationers and travelors.Get all employees dressed in uniforms. Clean the rooms top to bottom.
I think that's why Christian was so dismissive and rude to the hotel inspector's because he had something to hide, a person with a guilt-free conscience wouldn't act like that.
Actually he seemed to be the most competent person there. At least he had the wedding organized, the orders under control, and was very supportive of the bride. Yes, he should have calmly told the wannabe hotel inspector that he was busy and would be happy to fill out the questionnaire once the wedding was over. She was relentless, insufferable, and very much out of her depth. Incompetence personified.
The inspection process seemed bound to fail. Running around after the events manager with questionnaires when it was clear that he was the only person actually doing a decent job was absurd . Her people skills were absolutely lacking.

when I started watching this show I thought it was a comedy sketch. The hotel is a zero star operation, dead on arrival. The hotel inspectors, maybe one and a half stars.
Bravo to the wife, son and the couple celebrating their golden anniversary.

Not a surprise that Mark was unwilling to accept any type of criticism- no wonder he ended up selling the hotel
I really feel for Mark - his managers took the mickey out of him and Christian was out-of-order.

Sorry, but Mark has set the tone for the environment in that $hithole. The employees are just following his lead.
I would because he has a charming quality he can pull out, but he doesn't take in the seriousness of the problems there, its completely above his comprehension level.
The old couple are so lovely, they thought everything was fantastic, even tho the rooms are so tired 😓

As a Manager, both Christian and Alison would have been out of the door. This would moral and basic disciplines straight away!. I am amazed these two people are still retained at the hotel.

@@juliet7703 Yes, it’s a shame, and yet Mark didn’t think it was his job to make sure all others were in line, and didn’t believe Peter when the undercover inspector told him he was managing badly.

Apparently, after two series at the Grosvenor, financial difficulties meant that Mark had sold-up by the time that series three came around. But two years later, Channel 4's cameras returned to the Bay as Mark became the new entertainments manager at the nearby Cavendish Hotel.

Christian should have got the sack over that or at the very least demoted from his position of leadership. he really failed himself, his staff and employer. 40:08 Anything but prestigious.
The problem with this hotel was the employees that Mark had, from the chef to the front desk, no one respected him, all the employees were a joke and unprofessional. Christian and Alison the worst of all employees.
I loved the tickles. They where fantastic and they showed us that the key to long happy marriage is to have a laugh and joke see the bright side of everything and I love how she kept correcting him but he took it on the chin an would say “oh yeah” lovingly. These days I think we are all so defensive.
People are SO touchy now, everyone's "feelings" are always hurt and being "disrespected." Makes me want to throw up.
People have a lot of sympathy for Mark because he's a lovable go getter, a sort of heroic bungler, but he does cause his own problems a lot of the time. Just hiring people on the spot without looking into their work history and so on. Ends up with a largely useless, incompetent staff and from there he's doomed. This Christian guy, for example, a couple of years after this, was arrested and convicted for fraud. He was skimming the till and stealing money from the hotel he worked at. Christian isn't even his real name. It was an assumed name, one of many. He has a history of changing his appearance and name, presumably to evade authorities and preventing potential new employers from looking into his past. I do like Mark's sort of innocent, earnest and hard working nature, but he is his own worst enemy too.

To be fair to Christian/Nigel he didn't scam the Grosvenor. It was a separate resort he was buggering about with money
He worked at a caravan park in North Devon where I spent many a childhood holiday and that is where he had his fingers in the till.

Not be nasty but that dress did not do her any justice way to small it look almost tacky she could of got dress that showed how beautiful she was without hanging out all over the place I hope they enjoy there life together and want to say she has brought up one amazing son he so grown up she done great job bringing him up well done mum

Not sure whether to laugh or cry!! She married a yob and the Tickles were half balmy, the staff are unhinged, the owner is as flippant and silly as his staff and the Hotel Inspector was a meek Accountant. Imagine staying over at the Grosvenor unless forced to do so?! 🙄😶😱

Mark can’t take criticism just like Christian can’t. When the inspectors were giving their views, Mark’s back went up and he became defensive. Maybe that’s the problem? He thinks he knows it all.
mark should have fired christian and alison on the first day they showed that they were unprofessional. which given their abhorrent personalities would have probably been their first day of employment. christian(an alias) turned out to be a scam artist who ended up on the run from the law, and hopefully the hotel industry saw this and allison ended up working wherever she deserved to end up.
"I don't know if I want rich guests"... problem solved. No rich person would stay there.

Most hotels, even budget, have a kettle in the room. They weren't ordering burgers up to the room
if I was that customer asking for a cup of tea and a kit-kat, and was told "Shut up!", I would have not only made a complaint, but I would have cancelled my reservation right there and then, telling them that they don't deserve my business or money!

They need training! Reception is the most important place for giving you that first impression of what to expect from your stay. They were sadly an appalling display of rudeness and their attitude to “Mr & Mrs Brown” was totally unprofessional 😫

Christian with his jewelry, male clothes, drag wardrobe and jewels along with his familiarity with the local strippers alarmed me. Figured Mark had him investigated for his source of wealth as I would - no such luck. Thankfully he went to Prison for Embezzlement.
Yep but you have to ask how many tens of thousands of pounds did he steal from Mark over the years…. The man got caught way too late and Christian should of been sacked during the first season.
