In a world where Christmas has become commercial and all people remember is their gift list, I grew up in a world where it was about being with family from miles around, coming together, and the simple things. It was a magical time where you were so blessed just to get something handmade and a new dolly~ those things were better than gold. That time together meant everything. It was about the magic of love, strangers becoming friends and everyone being cheerfully excited for the holidays. The magic of playing in the snow and Christmas Eve services. Mom’s homemade chocolate Yule Log, and kisses under the mistletoe. The sparkle of the fragile snow floating down on Christmas Eve and making popcorn strings for the tree while watching all your favorite Christmas movies. Mom’s fruit punch and dad’s special peppermint cocoa. I miss those days and would give all the money in the world for that world again.
I took these photos last year in Jim Thorpe and the Pocono’s Pennsylvania, it is the closest I’ve gotten to those old Christmas’ back home I’d give anything for. They were the true spirit of Christmas.
