Having skated for decades and working in a rink, I have seen a lot of broken wrists; by far that is the most common injury. I've seen a few broken ankles and people that have landed on their bum and hurt their tailbone, but very infrequently.
As a skater, if I haven't fallen about 30 times a week (I skate over 30 hours a week so one fall an hour), then I haven't been pushing myself out of my comfort zone enough; and even though my sport is slalom skating (trick skating with cones and a flat surface) I always wear wrist pads, no other pads just wrist pads. If I'm in the skatepark doing aggressive skating however then I will grudgingly wear knee pads and elbow pads and a helmet depending on what I'm doing there.
One thing you notice strongly with experience skaters and new skaters is, with experience you develop reflexes for falling, a bit like a cat, The way you can throw a cat in any direction and it will always land on its feet. So although I wear wrist pads, That's only for the 1% of my falls where I might have not caught myself before falling; most of the times when I'm falling I actually just catch myself usually springing back into action in one movement. New skate is on the other hand can have dramatic falls, face planting or smashing their tailbone, because falling well is a skill that needs to be practiced and learned just as much as skating well.

I swear my phone is spying on me. Literally made a call a few hours ago to a shop not far from me to see if they have wrist/knee etc protection as I’m learning to skateboard at the age of 47 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂 few hours later and RUclips pops this video in front of my eyes lol
Ankle break - aged 6 learning BMX tricks (late 1970s)
Wrist break - aged 20 roller skating
    Wish me luck with skateboarding
*ice skated, skiing and snowboarding in my teens with 0 injuries so there is some hope for me 😂😂😂

I struggle with this, as I skateboarded for about a decade, and even though I last stepped foot on a board back in like 2008, the muscle memory of how to fall off a skateboard is still there. So now when I fall, instead of getting low and going on my knees or into the mermaid squat, I tuck and roll onto my shoulder/side. Which now that I've put on ~50 lbs and ~15 years, hurts a lot more than it did when I was lighter and younger lol! I know the weight will come off as I skate more, but I really need to practice falling onto my knees, and getting as low as possible before I fall...
