    Excellent video. Good clear voice nice close up shots no crappy music in the background. My son just bought the same truck. Watched your video and we were able to do the change ourselves. Saved him some hard earned cash. We had some great father and son time together. Memories of an oil change. Thanks much.

    Great video sir! I used this as my reference to do my first oil change on my 2018 Ram 1500 3.6 Pentastar V6. The dealership idiots that did my last oil change must have put my drain plug on with an impact wrench because I had to reach under there and pull down on the wrench with both hands literally lifting myself off the ground and using the weight of my body to unscrew it. And you are correct, please use 15/16" on the filter cap, 1/2" on the drain plug. Not 24mm and 13mm like other videos mention.

      Yup, if it wiggles a bit. Means it's still too big of a socket

    Thank you. Great video. When finished with the oil change you may want to reset the on board vehicle info.

      Yes, you are right. I do that but didn't think to put it in the video. Oops.

    Amateur tip:
    Stay under the vehicle when initially pulling the drain plug to make sure the oil goes in the collection bucket. At first it pours out in a fast arching steam but then slows down some which means the landing point of the stream could change a few inches. I set my catch bucket for the initial stream and was so proud of myself I crawled out from underneath and started talking to my neighbor. When I went back under I had about 1/3 of my old oil that missed the container and was running down my driveway. Don't be me. 🤦

      Good point. I don't normally do that because of an inner ear condition which makes me very dizzy when I lay down. But it is a good idea. No need in having old motor oil soaking into the ground.

    Just an FYI here, this motor (Pentastar V6) is a great motor, but has a major flaw. The oil filter housing is attached to the oil cooler. As the author stated, if you over tighten the oil filter cap, the filter housing will stress out (twist with the cap) and crack at the base of the housing where it connects to the cooler. As a result, while the truck is running, oil will seep out through the crack and pool in the valley of the motor, and runs down to the ground. Also, if you run your vehicle extensively, the same issue can occur just from the prolonged exposure to the heat from the engine bay. (BECAUSE ITS PLASTIC). BAD DESIGN to say the least. The bad part is you wont know this is happening until the valley overflows from the leaking oil (which can take quite some time depending on the size of the crack). This motor was put in several vehicles by Chrysler/Dodge and they all experience the same issue. So although I HIGHLY recommend you change your own oil on vehicles with this motor (if you have the know-how), if you are going to take it to a shop, make sure they are aware of the issue. It is all over the internet! The good news, is there are actually aftermarket replacements that are built better than than the original manufacturers part. DORMAN makes one that is all aluminum. Below are two links I provided about the issue (with a video showing how to properly change these types of oil cartridge filters to avoid this from happening from an oil change. The other link shows the upgraded DORMAN part I referenced). It is important to note, that if for some reason you need to change the oil cooler assembly, or even just the cap, to reverify the torque requirements for the cap and the wrench size, as most factory warranty's (and extended warranties) allow shops and the dealer to use after market parts. Great video on the basics, and I hope my input helps! www.ecogard.com/chryslers-problem-pentastar-v6-oil-filter-housing-cooler-assembly-what-means-oil-filter-installers/ www.carparts.com/oil-filter-housing/dorman/rb926959?TID=gglpla&origin=pla&&&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0IGnBhDUARIsAMwFDLn0n3BmpmeUcNGdtm4LtJQ3E6tv11fB1GZBHqrhYHnqCeejIeepFGwaAodXEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds ruclips.net/video/lkX6ZFhVbDw/видео.html

      Thank you for the comment. 100% correct. I have several friends who have replaced the filter housing/oil cooler due to this issue. Mine recently cracked as well. Dorman replacement should be here shortly.

    I am getting ready to do my 2016 3.6! Yes I had to have the housing replaced already. It was leaking oil down the back side of the engine. That was a nice hefty cost. Not sure why they decided to use plastic for this.

      25 foot pounds is what it needs to be tighten as. Don't let anyone do it for you, they try tighten it until they can't turn it

    You sure about the fuel economy? The 3.6L gets closer to 18 - 19 combined.

      I'm positive. I don't have the lead foot I had when I was younger, I use cruise control as much as possible. And I keep my speed to no more than 5 over the speed limit.

    I'm doing mine for the first time. The plug doesn't have a gasket?

      Correct. Just an o-ring on the filter.

    Gonna want to drain oil before you take ur filter off .

    • @DGHamblin
      @DGHamblin  Год назад +1

      On this motor I don't think it matters. Cartridge filter suits on top of the motor and doesn't hold any oil when the motor is off.

    • @jeffcolton7468
      @jeffcolton7468 Год назад

      No need in this type of application, as there is no oil in the filter cartridge while the vehicle is off. It drains back into the pan once you shut your vehicle off.
