    Thank you soooo mutch for this amazing video 😲😉👏 And yess i’ve learned alot , the angles of the mortises wow unfortunate that you had to re-do the bottom stretcher but we say that we need to make mistakes to learn 🙄 but please does it have to cost us something to 😳🤣😂😜

    transferring an angle onto another piece as you did with the bottom stretcher with a marking knife and a square. i cheat and just grab a block of wood. lay it up against the leg and then take the leg away and strike the line along the block or set a bevel gauge against the block. not trying to teach you to suck eggs. since i retired i still like to see whats going on in the furniture making world.

    Greta video, Chad. I was thinking as you were using that block to make the line on the side of the leg parallel couldn't you make the side of the block at the proper height and then just slide the block up the leg until the line is at the top of the block? This is similar to making the block the right length to make the line parallel to the side. Thanks for the tips.

    I love your videos. They go into so much detail. I've only been wood working a few years and your techniques are great to see. I love the way you show your mistakes. I often beat myself up for making them and it heartens me to see someone still tackling these challenges after 23 years. All the best Chad, Brett.

      Hi Brett. Thanks for your comments. I'm pretty much, what you see is what you get, kind of guy. I'm not smooth or cool. So I never try to pretend. :-) Mistakes, my life is one big mistake Hahahaha No point in covering it up. But I'm content where I'm at. Don't give up. Making mistakes just gets easier to deal with.

    Awesome video as always chad, one thing if I were doing that job I think I would’ve made a jig on plywood to hold my legs at the proper angle to measure stretchers and tenon lengths and just set me bevel gauge up directly GF the legs so I didn’t have to worry about the taper changing the angle. The way you did it was the smart guy way and pretty awesome lol

      charles i will be honest with you. if you can accomplish a small piece then bigger pieces will be a doddle. i am a retired furniture maker and i would rather make a large piece any day over a smaller one. smaller pieces are very unforgiving if you are the slightest bit out.

      @@TaylerMade I understand what you are saying, high quality boxes are unforgiving and require very precise joinery.
      I do okay on basic type furniture that is only made of flat stock and uses right angle joinery, but turned/tapered/splayed...LOL...out of my league.

    Thank you for the instruction. Im about to make a desk with round tapered legs and rectangular stretchers. I have a question though. Why not make the mortise big enough to accept the entire stretcher? Then you could cut the mortise before tapering the legs.

    • @ChadStanton
      @ChadStanton  Год назад

      It’s a good question but the apron is 3/4”. Two of them going into the leg would make the walls of the leg incredibly weak.
