    One of France's greatest organs, Cesar Franck's organ. Every organist has studied this organ and the music written for it. A great toccata in the French tradition. The last time I heard this instrument was some years ago. Jean Langlais was playing!

    Finally someone who plays that B Major section with a sensitive approach. Most everyone races through that beautifully legato section with the same tempo and flavor of the opening segments. I thought for oh, so long that I was the only one who enjoyed that second theme for what it should be. Thanks, thanks, thanks

    • @edheffron
      @edheffron 3 года назад

      @@reglementme6321 Yes, it does need to be marked. In this case, the middle section naturally slows at the tempo set at the beginning. No change is necessary. If Dubois wanted the tempo to change he would have indicated it. Simple.

    Elle merite donc, pour moi, d être plus diffusée...
    Votre jeu posé et non précipité comme assez souvent, personnellement, entendu en concert dans ce genre de pièce la rend vraiment agréable à entendre et rien de tel pour initier à la musique d orgue un public qui la connait peu

    Je ne savais pas qu'Olivier Penin, l'actuel titulaire des grandes orgues de Sainte-Clotilde, avait enregistré cette magnifique "Toccata" de Théodore Dubois. Merci pour cette interprétation magistrale, comme toujours chez ce remarquable organiste... Théodore Dubois est un peu oublié et délaissé aujourd'hui, et c'est sûrement dommage. Ce fut pourtant un grand pédagogue (directeur du Conservatoire, notamment) et un non moins grand compositeur (premier grand prix de Rome, membre de l'Académie des beaux-arts...). Apparemment, la rivalité qui, dans sa vieillesse, l'opposa à Ravel (sorte de querelle des Anciens et des Modernes !) déplut à l'époque, ayant pour effet de le bannir des élites et de le reléguer dans quelques oubliettes de la pensée unique organistique...

    Quite wonderful performance of this delightful toccata. The various contrasts in the B-major section are so beautifully realized and really make the heart of this brilliant piece sing. (I learned this piece many years ago and am now inspired to search out the score once again and re-learn it. While the Widor toccata is the one typically referenced as “the” toccata to learn, this Dubois piece surely ranks at the very highest level in this genre.) I so enjoyed hearing this marvelous performance.
