I love the Rekon+'s for riding in Florida sand and wet, sheds well has enough grip to push you across sandy surfaces without digging in so deep that you waste energy on breaking sticktion. Might have to change it up if I head out west though, they seem to slide too much for out there. I noticed they slide on leaf-litter pretty quickly too.
I too like the DHR ll and it’s great as a front too. For me riding a fully rigid means I rely on my tires and rims for a supple feel and some give. That’s why I’ve gone to wider aluminum rims on all my bikes . Of course 3x db spokes help give the wider rim flex. I’ll run 2.5s in the back but try to get 2.6 or better in the front. These are all 29er bikes When I get a 27.5 I’ll go wider, I just completed a Esker Hayduke build so I need to wait before I start getting stuff for my next rig
I just got Rekon + on my hardtail in tan wall. It looks amazing, but I totally agree about the climbing. I enjoy tech climbs as well and after two rides I spun this tire out on climbs that are normally no problem. I like the aggressor in the rear, but thought I'd experiment with the Rekons. Waste of money haha
Same experience here. I love the look of tanwalls, but until they make them on the tread I like, I won't be compromising grip for looks. I hope we see more tires with tanwalls soon though, cuz they look great. The funny part is that I have some friends who dont have any issues with the rekons. We ride the same trails and I spin out like crazy, and theirs hook up. Weird.
@@hardtailparty I'm gonna try dropping my pressure in the back to see if they improve, but I like to just think we are both too powerful for these tires. I saw Onza just released white tires, so hopefully this is the era of more color choice in tires.
@@CobraKyle Yeah, we must just be too strong. :) I think they're going to start making dh2s and DHFs in tanwall now. Hopefully they include plus tires, but I'm doubtful.
What do you think about the specialized slaughter t7? I use a slaughter on my trek slash and feel like I love the tire on this bike in the rear. I am looking at one for my mullet ht for the rear. I currently have dissector tires all around 2.6 and the rear feels spongy kink of like pedal bob I get feedback. Over all I love fast rolling tires on all of my bikes.
Gulp. Just ordered a pair of 2.6 Rekons to come bikepack the Fools Loop on my Salsa TimberJack. Would you recommend I try to change my order. After fools loop, I’ll continue to bikepack on rocky forest service roads in Washington State. Rev commendations?
Ha I’m running a DHF 3C front with a DHRII dual compound in the rear. Best traction I’ve ever had and the dual compound in the rear wears evenly with the triple compound front!
Saludos estimado
I found the DHR II to be slow for climbing compared to the Aggressor or the High Roller. Also, as a front tire I've had more predictability with the DHF, and it only weighs 50gr more. More recently went for a DHF front and Forekaster rear, both 2.6 but mullet config. Man the Forekaster rolls! That's the most accurate to trail tire combo I've tried. The closest that comes to mind is a couple of Continental Mountain Kings... those were magic glue over rock gardens. But they are way more expensive than Maxxis tires.
The low treads and the V block pattern doesnt hook up on edges as well and an even pattern of small blocks or big blocks. It works fine on smooth climbs but I can see why it’s driving you nuts in Sedona.
No clearance issues running the Minion DHR? I have a local guy selling 2 DHR for 80 do you think it would be ok to run on the chameleon front and back? They are the 27.5x3.0
I have been running the recon WT 3c Maxxterra. 2.4 on the back and really like it on the terrain here. Paired with the DHF WT 2.5 on the front, it makes a good combo. May give something else a shot next time around
I never tried rekon so got nothing to talk about it. However I didn't like nobby nic 2.8, which came with my bike originally, but like Bontrager xr4. I feel like it has more grip when climbing and rolls well.
have a quick question @hardtail party -- I have wtb st i40 tcs 2.0 27.5 40 mm width rims with Rekon+ tires, can I use/put 2.6” or 2.5” tires with these rims?

so glad I found this! I thought I was going crazy. I haven't noticed the issue on climbs, but on fast turns that tire slides when you least expect it.
So you found the traction unpredictable? What did you go with or recommended in place of? What size wheel and riding you do?

I have the exact issue with my 2.8 recon +. I will be making the same switch once it wears a bit more.
Had DHF 2.6 rear and 2.8 front not happy, Now I run DHRII 2.6 rear 2.8 front and Love the grip.
What size wheels do you have and what kind of riding do you do?

Have you tried the Surly dirt wizzards? Huge traction but a little draggy. I love them and can run ridiculous low pressures with them.
Nope, I havent tried those yet. I wish I could try every tire on the market, I love comparing gear.
FENHD I have, amazing traction and super solid feel. Just a bit heavy on the stop-starts of switchbacks

Recomiendo la llanta mas ancha enfrente. La llanta mejor depende de su tipo de Tierra qu sus metas.
I love Rekon 29 x 2.4 tire on the rear , I don't have any problem with traction, the only downside it worn out so fast.

I may try that cushcore when/if I get a new bike. Not sure I would be a fan of that tire. I do like the DHRII, though.

I think I'd use one if I were in northern CA or Oregon, but the climbing traction just isn't there for me here in the desert.
If I will be in the States, I wanna join your party! Lovin my Nukeproof Scout
Hit me up if you make it to Arizona.
@@hardtailparty Yeah I really want to. I'm riding here in Japan for now. If I will have a chance in the future, I'm want to ride with you guys.
I LOVE the sideways action I can get on a Rekon, I do not enjoy the squirm.

I like the xr4 too. I also hate Bobby nics in Arizona. On soft loamy trails I like nobby nics.
@@hardtailparty Bobby nic, lol. Well I am ooking forward to seeing your next episodes👍
how long are you in AZ? Headed to Sedona on the 20th!!
We live in sedona now, so we are always here.

They'll fit, but it'll square off the tires quite a bit.
@@hardtailparty thank you. you mean, you don't recommend? right?
@@mtzlsf You "can" use them, but it's not ideal.
hardtail party thx
Thanks for all the info I have been out two times in the bike since my cracked sternum still hurting but it is worth it
So I'm looking for a touch less grip than the DHR, is this my guy? Rims are 35inner/40outer 2.4 is fine but want 2.5 rear
These feel like half the grip of a dhr2. I'd recommend a dissector for what you describe.
@@hardtailparty ok good to hear! I will check those mammajammas out

What are your thoughts on running a high roller ii in the rear vs dhrii?
Go for it. I have only tried a hr2 in the front, but I'll bet it's be a great rear tire too
Rekon 2.8 3c is my go to rear. It slips occasionally in the wet, but not on rocks. Try altering your body position, to optimize traction.
I've tried. It still doesn't work well for me here in Arizona. I know some people have good luck with the tire, but not me.
DHR in the front! Hey you can't do that!
