I've been loving JT since I first heard him sing "I Want You Back" with NSYNC! You could tell he was something special! This solo performance just solidified it! He spoke about this performance and said that he had actually come down with a cold a day before this, so he wasn't feeling 100%. Well, he killed it anyway! Just 🔥🔥🔥
Just imagine how wild that must be for everyone that was there. It was Justin Timberlake performing without NSYNC and despite everyone wanting them back it was the birth of a legend in the music industry and it came by a sacrifice
I remember watching this when it aired and you're right, back then you knew you were getting some DOPE performances at VMAs and were just waiting to see which one was going to be iconic that year. I loved this one and immediately after that I couldn't stop playing this song on repeat. One thing that I don't see here though, that I distinctly remember seeing at that time, was that at some point they cut to a shot of his NSync bandmate in the audience and he was looking not too happy about this lol. I felt bad for him, I think he tried to get his solo career off the ground but it never really happened for him.
what JT is doing then with a huge boy band N'SYNC then going solo, is being mirrored by Jung Kook of BTS today and succeeding with his debut Golden which is one of the best albums.
