Jesus came to give us life more abundantly; He can’t do a new thing if we’re stuck in the past. We’ve got to clean out the old junk to make room for NEW mercies, new blessings He has in store for us …..things we have not seen, heard or experienced.
You can't clean up before you take a shower. It's not just I want you getting new mercies from God, but you loving and having a relationship with God. I'm not saying you shouldn't stop sinning and just think that God will forgive you for it anyway, but that you should let God do what He should and you do what you can. Do what He commands you to

Allow the Holy Spirit to clean/santify our hearts, soul, & minds of the flesh & replace it with His Holy Spirit by the renewing of the mind….unlearning those things that are not of Him. We get this by spending time with Him. It’s the only way to experience the fullness of God’s blessings that He has for us. If we get the blessings with the old mindset, it could very be a temporary or interrupted blessing. When God gives us a blessing, He doesn’t want to take it away because we get in the way. Job was an exception because he being tested on his faithfulness towards God. But with new mercies, God blessed Him with more than what he had in the beginning.
