    As a 12 year old this blew me away was the tune we use the break and pop to in lunch break at secondary school when we moved the chairs and got the ghetto blaster on. What a classic!

    DEF JAM is T LA ROCK, L.L. COOL J, BEASTIE BOYS, NIKKI D, PUBLIC ENEMY, SLICK RICK, EPMD, ORIGINAL CONCEPT, DAYV D, DJ HURRICANE, THIRD BASS and many more. This was DEF JAM created by Rick Rubin and the first official cut from DEF JAM Records was It's Yours featuring Jazzy Jay & T La Rock released in the summer of 1984 under Party Time Records and L.L Cool J released two LP titled singles I Need A Beat and Dangerous in the fall of 1984 before the album Radio was debuted in 1985. CLASSIC HIP HOP!

      Absolutely, but don't forget L.L. Cool J. 12" single, "Rock The Bells" (original version) was released before his debut album.👍

      I know that the L.L. Cool J 12" LP Single Rock The Bells was released in 1985 on vinyl. This was the (original version) that used the sounds of cowbells while stealing the same beat from MC Shan.

    This was a huge hit on the London, UK hip hop scene. I think it was number one on the Groove Records chart for about ten weeks. Massive tune and still sounds fresh

    • @a0b0
      @a0b0 8 лет назад +4

      true that. i used to buy echoes magazine back in 1984 to see what electro-funk was charting in the groove records electro charts. glory days. shame i had to sell my entire electro collection back in 2003 when things took a turn for the bad for me.

      @@a0b0 Luckily I kept all of mine and early hiphop, mainly purchased from Groove Records. Remember walking in there almost every week and being blown away by these tracks. I wouldn't do that for any hiphop coming out nowadays.

      @@maccagrabme i did make a couple of visits to groove records, once in 1984 and again in july 1985. on the first occasion " granny groove " served me. they were slightly cheaper than manchester's spin inn records. there was even a radio 4 programme on granny groove back in the late 80s.

    I have this LP (it's dead common you can buy it on line on Discogs for about £2.99,so that is in no way a boast) but I had the vast majority of all these tracks when they came out ,and I think that years before Puffy ,Def Jam with the likes of Chuck Stanley,Tashan ,Alyson Williams did a lot to bridge the gap between Hip Hop and R&B/Soul ,I know the likes of S.O.S Band,Change,The Controllers etc used big beats on their tracks to work on the dance floorloor but the Def Jam Soul tracks fuckin bumped,the 808s were large and the whole tracks of Tashan ,or Miss Williams banged like HipHop beats.Thats my theory.If you want to own a time capsule of dope Hip Hop ,R&B and ace Go Go (the Junkyard Bands 12"s are not cheap these days)on vinyl,then this L.P is perfect coz it's so cheap (the postage will be more expensive than the actual record)this is an ace place to start, buy 2 and learn to do tricks (all the Junkyard and Original Concept tracks ,and L.Ls I am Bad are perfect for Hip Hop DJ tricks).Plus look into the history of the Junkyard Band and see who were the biggest ,real life gangsters involved in the music scene of the mid to late 80s,they came from D.C, look into it.
