    You are the best instructor for self defense strikes with a cane. You use strikes and tactics that actually work and take an attacker out. I recently had a spinal injury that unfortunately has progressed and I need a cane to get around. I’m also in CA where the homeless problem is getting worse and worse and there are a lot of mentally ill people who are a danger to society freely roaming the streets. Unless you are in law enforcement it’s near impossible to get a CCW here and having a cane is perfect for self defense because a bat or a club in your car or on your person can get you a felony arrest. If I’m out and about alone or with family I can’t move around like I used to and would absolutely crack someone to defend myself or family. It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I appreciate your channel, thank you for showing how to perform these strikes and exercises with a cane. All these other channels I’ve watched are horrible, it’s like they are making it up as they go. That one guy who calls everyone “caners”, I think its American Cane Self Defense is dangerous. He’s telling people they can stop an active shooter with their cane through his methods. He could actually get people killed by telling them to do these awful made up Steven Seagal style finger locks and overly telegraphed moves that look like from an old Shaw Brothers Kung Fu film lol. Well thank you for your videos, I’ve been watching them and trying to practice when my back isn’t in pain.

    Every "old fart" like me (71) needs to know this. I've been practicing Filipino Kali for years but basic fundamental stick and cane defense is VERY effective. When facing a knife unarmed... no matter how fast, how good you are, prepare to get stabbed and cut. Having a cane will give you a huge advantage... IF and ONLY IF you practice. No cane? look for a chair or anything to separate you from the knife and always look for an exit. If I were new to this, I would bookmark this video and view it several times a week and practice EVERYDAY. The more the better but even just 10 minutes a day, EVERYDAY, you'll get stronger, conditioned and good at it. If you can partner up, that'll make it 10X better. Great content here, Matt... thanks for sharing.

      I am the same as you 72, still do powerlifting at high levelnow and martial arts for over forty years. Live in rough part of Liverpool England and get fed up with young punks giving me comments, when I could be confident of sorting it out ( even though I never had to) think now would like the equaliser of a cane, think the confidence in my walk would be enough for the young punks to know they can’t take the piss.

    Thank you for this video the difference between your technique and some others on RUclips is that you advocate using all your Force and doing whatever you have to do to defend yourself.. if someone's using lethal Force against you you have the right to use lethal Force against them.. many others I've seen on RUclips do not want to strike the perpetrator in the face or the head 😮.. give me a break if somebody is going to attack me I am going to use all my Force against them! And if that Force turns out to be lethal Force and legal self-defense I will use it...

I have a background in Aikido, but I suffer from service connected vertigo and back issues. I’m 65. Where can I get a defense cane with the shepherds hook? The Mexicans have competition in their schools one is the Old Man compression it is quite a funny song and dance style that includes the cane. Please don't mess with a senior Mexican with a cane it will not end well for you. They also have one, remember this is taught in schools to very young children. Another one is a story of a couple of field workers. These guys use very large knives the machete. These kids put on a very good demonstration of a violent fight in the field around jalousie over the same girl. While performing one mistake will result in quite a serious injury. Sorry got carried away. The old men and their canes 😂😅😂 very intertaining. But demonstrates what a is full tool the cane can be for self-defence. Check it out if you have time.

    How could a shorter person succeed against a taller opponent in sparring, tournament or street self defense fight

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  4 года назад +1

      It is very common. Taller person has reach advantage but that is easily overcome by shorter person being able to fight in close and take away reach advantage. Especially in martial arts, reach is important but not everything. Shorter person can be faster and if he or she works on developing better technique plus timing and distance, will win regardless of height difference. Don’t ever think that size will determines outcome, so many more factors will be as much, or more important.

    • @mattandsarahfish8866
      @mattandsarahfish8866 2 года назад

      Good answer to the question. Often times taller people who have a bully mentallity tend to underestimate shorter people, be over confident and thereby easily surprised, caught off guard providing a window of opportunity for the little guy to getbthe upper hand. Also, consider what enabled David to overcome Goliath. It is not always ability that conquers. Victory is granted by faith in the LORD.

    Matt... Most people who use canes don't use them to have a weapon. It seems like you forgot in this video why people use a cane Balance and Stability. Most who use them are in need or a crutch to ambulate. People who use canes can not typically stand very sturdily or maintain balance long. Some people use them who can walk fine without them those people would be the ones who might be able to strike and run if its taken from them.
    But most elderly and most who use one cant walk without it due to falling from balance issues. Its not a wardrobe option for them.
    If one of those who need it are using it they most likely wont have a weapon cane because contrary to what some think canes have to be fitted to work in benefit of health. Most weapon canes are not adjustable and would not help a person only make their issues worse. Most helpful canes which these people are more likely to have... are light weight materials. They often screw together with a single nut. Their handles often break off.
    Most dont use the canes with a crook because they are not adjustable and usually are only used by people who use them that could run without one. Talking about fending off a knife attacker with any cane is silly. I don't think Ive ever seen an actual violent assault fought offwith ANY cane but in old martial arts movies. People armed with guns are sometimes killed by knife attackers. A cane wont stop a real violent knife attack. Lets be honest especially if its an elderly man who relies on their cane to walk. For those people I highly advise firearms.
    Your advice while encouraging to those with canes, is kinda giving them a false reality. The Number one peice of advice in all Martial arts for an attacker with a knife is to run.
    Multiple Attackers? You need to be real with these people. Unless you're able bodied and never needed tha tcane to walk to start even the most youtful mobile well trained black belts in all types of martial arts do not usually fend off multiple attackers. Much less an elederly man or woman armed with a cane swinging it at best is just a deterrent. Theyll likely grab it take it from them overpower them and use it on them. Be real with them do not gve people espcailly the elderly a false sense of protection or reality.

    • @pasquinilli
      @pasquinilli  2 года назад

      The self defense cane is a great option because anyone can carry it everywhere they go. That’s the point of it. If someone carrying a cane needs to lean on it for balance or to walk, they can still use a self defense cane in the other hand to use for self defense. If you are in a wheelchair, you can use the self defense walking cane. If someone cannot use it, then they can’t use it. But it is a great option for many people, because of HIPPA laws and ADA laws. It can go everywhere and no one can challenge your need to use it. Not in the USA.

    • @ArmaGuyz
      @ArmaGuyz 2 года назад

      @@pasquinilli " If someone carrying a cane needs to lean on it for balance or to walk, they can still use a self defense cane in the other hand"
      Man carrying two canes is not practical they need that free hand its their only free hand. That's what I am saying here. Those who use them "to actually walk" because they need them are not capable of using one in defense because without it they are HIGH FALL RISK. Off Balance and unstable in stance. A Violent attacker is not going to allow you to stand uninterrupted with forward motion attacks like pushes,punches and grabs. Therefore using what keeps you standing firm as your weapon isn't wise if they grab it and you struggle with them, youre going to fall and if they take your cane its now up to them to run away laughing cause you have no way to support your walking or they now have your cane as their weapon. Its great your optimistic and want them to feel like they have a fighting chance but its most likely going to end badly. What youre showing is not realistic being that most will be using light weight aluminum and it will break easy.
      If they are using a defense cane its probably not fitted for them so its unlikely theyll carry like a normal medical cane and have a low chance of ever being armed with it, if they are in fact carrying a fitted cane for self defense if the person grabs the cane and pulls that poor person is going to be sent off balance into a fall that could severely injure them and now they have no cane to flee even after the attacker has left and god help them if the attacker decides to use their cane against them knowing its a defense cane. You say what I'm saying here? This is why I say if they need it to walk this is not going to work and I highly recommend them carrying OC spray or a firearm and defending for a safe distance. VS attacking with their only chance of mobility and risking being beaten with it.

    • @fly1ngG0PHER
      @fly1ngG0PHER Год назад

      @@ArmaGuyzYou are correct that an older person with zero independence of balance or strength is unlikely to be able to use a melee object to defend themselves against a committed violent attacker, there are a lot of young and fit people without training that are ill-equipped for that.
      That is however not, in my opinion, a mark against the instructor; if you rely on two canes to walk, or even one, and don’t have the strength to swing, then unfortunately you are completely screwed if you can’t use one cane to defend yourself at least for a moment. Your other options include running away (not happening if you’re on canes), or dropping your cane to reach into your pocket and take out a taser or spray, aim it and activate it in time, without fumbling it under the pressure, which is absolutely not easy, even with training; if you’re being violently attacked, and you’re unfortunate enough to be insufficiently strong to fight or run away, you do not have time to use anything except what is already in your hands. At the very least, knowing how to put a stick in the attacker’s face to buy time for help to reach you, or to give yourself a moment to actually reach for that other defense tool in the pocket with your off hand, is a vast improvement over just omitting the long stick in your hand. If you’re too slow to swing a cane that’s already in your hand a single time, you’re too slow to drop it the moment you’re attacked and go for a taser. This training does favor middle aged to older men with good body strength, as they can carry a cane without drawing a lot of attention (vs. a strapping 25 year old college hunk with a walking cane) but also have the body and training to use it.
      Additionally, this training applies to anyone with a hooked stick, even anyone with a regular stick. As for who else would be walking around in an everyday situation with a cane that actually require the cane, take people with one bad or recovering leg that can still balance on the other for a brief time; or old people that still have enough strength to stand for a moment and swing hard enough to break a collarbone, arm, ribs, or crack a skull; or just people carrying sufficiently strong cane umbrellas (not as effective at percussive striking as a solid oak cane, but you are hard pressed to find a stick that’s worse than your bare hands). This did not come across to me as an invincibility guide for older people; if you can’t perform the exercises he starts the video with, i.e. your balance, strength and maneuverability are not up to the required level and cannot be improved, that should be all the indicator a cognizant self-defender needs to know that they cannot use those parts of the system; but that doesn’t make the system any less valid.
