#tomsk originated with a decree by #TsarBorisGodunov in 1604 after Toian [ru], the Tatar duke of Eushta [ru], asked for the Tsar's protection against Kirghiz bandits. The Tsar sent 200 Cossacks under Vasily Fomich Tyrkov [ru] and Gavriil Ivanovich Pisemsky to construct a fortress on the bank of the #TomRiver, overlooking what would become the city. In 1804, the Imperial Russian government selected Tomsk as the seat of the new #TomskGovernorate, including the modern cities of #Novosibirsk, #Kemerovo, and #Krasnoyarsk, as well as Eastern Kazakhstan. The discovery of gold in 1830 brought further development to Tomsk in the 19th century; however, when in the 1890s the Trans-Siberian Railway bypassed the city in favor of the village of #Novonikolayevsk (#Novosibirsk), development began to move south to connect with the railway. Novosibirsk would surpass Tomsk in importance. By World War II, every twelfth resident was a student, giving rise to the city's nickname, the Siberian Athens. After the October Revolution of 1917, the city became a notable center of the White movement, led by Anatoly Pepelyayev and Maria Bochkareva, among others. After the victory of the Red Army in the 1920s, Soviet authorities incorporated Tomsk into the West Siberian Krai and later into #NovosibirskOblast. Tomsk became the new home for many factories relocated from #1941. The Soviet government established the new Tomsk Oblast, with Tomsk as the administrative center. During the Cold War, Tomsk became one of many designated closed cities, which outsiders, especially foreigners, could not visit. In #1949, a secret city, "Tomsk-7" (or "Postbox 5"), was established 15 kilometres (9 miles) north-west of Tomsk; the new settlement became the home of the #TomskNuclearPlant (subsequently renamed the #SibirskayaNuclearPowerPlant), the Soviet Union's first industrial-scale nuclear-power station.

Hi, according to Mayor's office, the average salary per month is >55,000 Russian Rubles. The salaries also vary during the months and seasons.
Some of the highest paid specialists in the Tomsk region are surveyors , receiving an impressive monthly salary of 140,000 rubles. They are followed by machinists , their earnings are 133,500 rubles per month. Foreman and craftsmen in the SMR (special equipment repair) category are offered up to 114,300 rubles, while welders and drivers are also included in the list of well-paid professions, receiving 102,600 and 102,500 rubles, respectively.

@@globalhole Много деревянной архитектуры отреставрировано, почти вровень с Иркутском, а облезлых домов куда меньше, чем в Италии или тем паче США (где вообще капец; вот там безнадега, а если есть "надежда" -- то только от дозы фентанила).

город представлен в ролике не очень. Я живу здесь. Очень красивые места вообще не показаны. Обидно что снимают бездари и у людей складывается впечатления не очень о Томске. Мой любимый город. Где бы не была, всегда спешу домой. Город молодежный, студенческий. Архитектура интересная. Хорошо сочетаются старые деревянные дома с новыми строениями. Соседние города блекнут по сравнению с г. Томск.
