I'm a 41-year-old Brazilian who discovered Atarashii Gakko around 2022 (NHK Songs of Tokyo) but only started to like it last year. Wonderful. It's interesting that you mention Akiko Wada's similarity because Otonablue is based on her Furui Nikki and they have a mashup that was done on the FNS Music Festival program. They also covered Warattyurushite with Klang Ruler.
Love that you mentioned the buru meaning because I'm sure you already knew it was what the song was about, I'm surprised a lot of people don't notice even with the lyrics and imagery. Acting like an adult. The MV does so well to show that, with the cherry, the raw steak, the candy, so many other things. I think it's really good commentary that could apply to so many things. If the young girls are the raw steak it certainly didn't work out well for the steak. The feeling is normal, but some people can use it to exploit you.
3:20, I think it was also about growing apart as many adults do... Kanon was actually crying it was difficult to tell, though Rin breaking the cigarette was maybe a way to signify that the relationship was breaking down... Lol maybe I'm reading too much into it...
Nice reaction! I think you got the reasons for their appeal right. They are quirky and different from other idol groups because, as their motto says "With individuality and freedom, I'm gonna stick out". I think the expressive nature and freedom of their dance routines is also great fun. These things will help to make them popular outside of Japan. The video could easily have just been AG acting coquettishly sexy, but they show the tension between the innocence on the teenager and wanting to be more adult with things like the candy cigarettes. The sets remind me of an old nightclub and I like the retro feel and the surreal meat eating.
I caught them when they played the Roxy in Los Angeles. This song (always one of my favorites) was a highlight of the show. There's enough self awareness going on, that it saves the song from being creepy for an older fan like me to listen to.
Not sure if you've ever heard of NEMOPHILA. But if you haven't it would be really cool to see your reaction to one of their songs. Such songs as Adabana, Hozuki, Dissension, and Rise indeed worth it to check them out.
They are witty and funny. All the silly sexual innuendos (cherry, blue tongue, eating raw red meat..) Oh and the candy cigarettes lol. When I was young they use to have them in the US. I'm sure they put a stop to it at some point. Lol..
I loved the videoclip, but someone made a mixup with the audio channels, because I keep hearing a faint voice singing along during the main parts of the song. It's off-sync and distracting, and it only seems to exist in the clip version, the "First Take" Version and the original 2020 version don't have that. If you want to hear it, use earphones
I got this feeling that suzuka's voice is lacking on 4:07 when she raise her voice(its like a cliff hanger), it's a bit annoying on that part only though i love there song specially que sera sera and koibumi.
This is going off the original recording I think. Which feels like it was a while ago, and they've since realized that note should be held out a bit longer, but can't rerecord it, and is hard to do live. Kind of works with the message of the song a bit though, which is a silver lining. She wants to hold a longer note, but isn't ready for it.

I noticed that too, they had to fade it out during the mixing process which makes it kinda odd.
