Sadly, Dave Roe passed away this weekend. I put together this compilation of clips from an interview I did with him last year in hopes that more people might see this and remember him. He was a cornerstone in the Nashville music community. He helped and encouraged a generation of players in Nashville and beyond and is sorely missed.
I put this thing together as fast as I could and I accidentally left out this clip. All apologies.

He always had time for everyone. Always had great advice for my upright whenever i asked. Famous and humble, the mark of a good man. funny as heck too !
I do remember him. I saw him live with Cash in the 90's and saw him a few times after with various artists. Every time I would see him in the background I remembered he was the guy with JC. Most recent was a Dee's Lounge video with Patrick Sweany and McKinley James. RIP, Dave!
I am so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. It seems like we lose someone every week. I almost don't want to turn on my computer and see whose face pops up on my news feed because so often the caption underneath reads: "........died.....". I know there are excellent new musicians on the scene to keep things fresh, but every time someone of my generation or before passes it feels like my musical world gets a little smaller. Thanks for the clips!
I just love listening to Dave Roe talking about his rich experiences. Thanks so much for this Otis and sorry for your loss.
Thanks Otis, Dave sure left his mark in music, must of been a real pleasure to hang out with. Im sure he’ll be missed by many. 😎
RIP Dave Roe. He had some awesome stories to tell.
J. Cash in my opinion, from stories i have heard, put honesty as his highest value..the honesty of others, toward him, or just their honesty in-general.
This man told him the truth, plain & simple. Johnny Cash respected that. He gave him the chance to prove he could be in his band. It changed this guy’s life.
We've lost another musical legend and hero. He also spot on about the private jet thing. We played in SanFrancisco to Nashville in about 3 hours. The jet service called us the night before and asked what we would like to eat. Filets and shrimp cocktail. Ice cold beer. Ground crew unloaded our gear. First class! The next week imback ti being a bluegrass diesel breather.....glamor and grits. Thanks Otis love and prayers to Dave's family and friends.
Just saw that Dave passed.. man, that's sad. I worked on his upright when he passed through Reno, a couple of times. He d I loved cigars, and well, he comped me in to see Johnny at The Nugget. Johhny Cash- was literally larger than life... and couldn't have been nicer to me. Dave was a great bassist, and man, what a nice guy he was. Rest In Peace, Dave.
Otis, thank you for putting together this memorial. Dave was one or a kind and a great dude! Rest in Peace Dave!
Love the Cash story.
Dave Roe , a sweet guy and stories forever and played with the greats. God bless and hope you are playing with the greats up there.
Dang he was a good bass player! I hope he's playing with Cash & Reed having a good time.
I am absolutely fascinated by all of these stories about some of my favorite artist that I have listened to for decades.
RIP Dave Roe I really enjoyed listening to your stories, I’m so glad I had the chance to see you play with Dwight.
OH NO!!!! Man...what a great human being. He will be sorely missed. RIP Dave Roe!

A sincere thanks to you, Otis, for capturing all of these artists' stories and memories before they leave us. And rest peacefully Dave Roe.
A great loss... RIP, Dave Roe.
R.I.P. Dave. His Jerry Reed stories are something I’ll never forget
Great work Otis, high from Orygun
RIP Mr. Roe. Such humility with talent is appreciated.
Man this is a great interview.
I absolutely loved this interview, he explains everything about this business, playing is the smallest part. It’s all about the moments of time spent with your comrades. Thank you and rest easy Dave.
Man. what a great guy. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. Such an incredible story.
Dave was The Upright Slap Bass Player, for all of the wanna-Be, Slap Bass Players! This is like comparing the Eddy Shavers ..there was Only One! I hate learning Dave is gone. And speaking of Eddy, Otis..give us some Eddy tales, there should be Plenty. Thank you brother, much love.
I never make it through long one on one interviews. But I did for this one. Rest well Dave.
Thank you Otis. what a humble guy. RIP Dave Roe.
Hey Otis, thanks for making this. Dave was backing up my musical heroes for most of my life and hearing him tell his story brings these people to life for me. I have to say, I’m not disappointed. RIP Dave and thanks for all the great music.
Thanks for all the music Dave. Great life and a great man . Youll be missed . Thanks for posting these Otis. R.I.P Dave Roe
What a legacy he left behind. Thanks for capturing these great stories Otis. Your work is amazing and so needed.
One of the most impressive things about these artists that Otis interviews is how generous they are with praise for everyone they worked with. I was acquainted with some of the folks that Dave, Kenny Vaughan, Jon Dee Graham, etc. talk about. They are/were really difficult people but none of those dudes have an unkind word to say.
Oh man sorry to hear about his passing.
Bummer man. Sorry to hear he passed away It was good to revisit your interviews. Thanks for bringing his story to the front of the bandstand.
Didn't know he passed till the end of this vid....thank you for making this compilation - he was a great story teller.
Got to read Chris Scruggs tribute to Dave Roe. What he did for him and so many starting out young Nashville musicians Thank you Otis.
Thanks for the tribute to Dave Roe. I watched these videos when you first put them out, but he has so many great stories, I wanted to hear them again. He certainly had a great career and an interesting life.
This is fantastic. Thank you, RIP Mr. Roe.
he was a great singer, too. Loved him singin harmony and backup touring with Johnny Cash back in the 90s in Germany
Once again I’ll say that so many great musicians are great fans of the music. They know what it’s supposed to sound like and know the role they play.
Sorry to hear about your Friend. Thanks for introducing us to Dave thru this Channel ☮️💯
I'm in the middle of this video, decided to google-research him for a minute and found out he just died that way. Thanks for the tribute, and for my introduction to an interesting musician. Quite the story-teller.
Wow,didnt know he passed till the end of the video.Seemed real healthy in this clip.Sad. My favorite Otis interview.
Thank you for honoring him. I could listen to him all day. Safe travels.
I have several PA’s that I‘ve gathering over the past 25-30 years. I still have an old Peavey 4 channel, 200W system with massive (heavy) 15” speakers. I really don’t use it much at all anymore but it still works! A buddy gave it to me when his wife threatened to leave him if he didn’t get rid of a ton of equipment. RIP, Dave…
“Ol’ Scooter” in East Texas…
I think I'll miss you most of all, Scarecrow... Thank you for your friendship Dave, and for the greatest compliment I ever received as a musician. I'm so happy I got to remind you of that gig before you left. Peace to all your family and friends.
And thank you, Otis.
One whose show lured me in. Saw him in Georgia 15 years ago, long before the here and now.

Jerry Reed and band Austin City limits 1982. Yes sir just went and watched it for my first time. That is an amazing band! Serious musicians. There is just nothing like that out there anymore that I am aware of. Thanks.
Wauw I really enjoyed watching this....did not know he passed till the end of the video...what sad to hear. As a 40 year long bass player, this was a great story from a great bassplayer. r.i.p. Dave Roe

And Charles Robison too.
That was all beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Being an amateur bass player for well over 30 years myself. I need to just play and practice more. This made me want to. I’ve got an upright and acoustic and electric. And a bunch of other instruments. But I can’t play them all at once. R.I.P.
Bless you for this Otis.

An awesome human . Very sad to lose him . An entire library has disappeared from us.
That last sentence is such a winning statement. Thank you.
Outstanding show Otis, love to hear the stories. I knew Eddie Perez from coming in my shop, got to see him play with Dwight and he told me how generous and first class his was with the band also. Sorry to hear about Dave.
Brian Farmer ended up being Warren Haynes & Allen Woody's guitar tech in Govt Mule. Sadly Brian past away in his sleep August 24, 2014. RIP Dave Roe & Brian Farmer
Brian Farmers story about Dave Rowe getting him the gig as Cash's guitar tech is hilarious.
