If you are looking at Y SR, you can either save 45k CNY and get 50km more range with a 580 G6. Or you can save 29k CNY and get 210km more range with 755 G6. And much faster charging. Much smoother less bumpy ride. It would take a mad person to pick Y over this.
The two stand out reasons to pick a Model Y over this are: 1) you want a foreign brand 2) you really enjoy the heavy direct steering Apart from that there isn’t much else I could say the Model Y has over this in the real world
@@ChinaDriven looks like Tesla Y is finally on the decline. G6 and ES6 eating its lunch. It’s about time we see some new models do well. I’m embarrassed for China that people still prefer Tesla the old and boring choice.
@@ChinaDriven I went to Xpeng pop up booth at the mall in HK because of your video. My wife and I love the car and paid a deposit for pre-order. We have one concern however. The G6 for HK will all have NCM battery instead of LFP. Is this something we should worry about with regards to fire safety?
@@robocop581 I’ll say battery fires are overly publicised. @@ChinaDriven Thanks for this. We do have battery options for the G6 in HK. The SR will have LFP while the LR NCM. Range is not an issue in HK as we can only drive within the Territory
I reckon if XPeng can lure themselves a German or Scandinavian as their Chief Designer that would be awesome. From there young Chinese designers can learned from the great European tradition in automobile design languages where the world can’t bloody get enough of….my humble opinion:)
I agree. I think with the price they set at the launch event, took us by surprise. We knew they were going to price it aggressively, but that was something else.
@@Stake2 haven’t heard specific dates yet. But I’d guess by the end of the year it either will be in Europe. Or we’ll have an announcement about it going.
Xpeng wouldn’t give us the boot dimensions before launch. I did record a take which was basically just me saying, here’s the boot. Seems ok. I don’t know how big it is…but I took it out the final edit. I can now tell you the boot size of the Xpeng G6 is 571L seats up. Seat down it’s 1374L. This is within spec of most of its competitors. However, in this aspect the Tesla model Y wins hands down with 855L seats up and 2041L seats down.
The tested version is quite different from the one on sale Europe. No lidar, no extra spoiler, but luckily rear seat heating, and improved software. Very interesting indeed!
I have Tesla stocks but have now also started buying XPeng as well. XPeng at a 15 billion US market cap with all their manufacturing makes them very interesting.
"I have ordered the 755PRO version. While my demand for urban autonomous driving (XNGP) isn't particularly strong, its performance on expressways and highways is excellent. @@ChinaDriven honestly? Mostly more cost cutting measures from what I heard. Some are good like using less separate parts for the chassis, others are bad, like having to change between forwards, backwards and parking via swiping
Please, please, what is the boot size?!!! I can't seem to find any info on the boot size of the XPeng G6. This is a very important factor when considering whether to buy the G6 or not!
Xpeng did not tell us the boot size on the filming day before the launch. even though we asked. I’d say it’s at least average for the class. But how big I don’t have the figure. Let me search if anyone has it now.

so right now XNGP City is only available in China. When Xpeng will open this in Europe I don’t know. Will probably depend on local rules. I believe XNGP highway (Navigate in Autopilot) will be available in Europe. Currently the P7 in Europe has access to Xpilot 3.0 which has a Navigate on Autopilot feature. But the G9, G6 & P7i models with LiDAR have the hardware on board.
I’m used to using the Xpeng infotainment. It’s basically evolved over time a bit. I think it’s a decent system. Most Chinese EVs have mode similar to teslas camping and pet modes. Xpeng’s have a sentry mode here in China. For English OS abroad I can’t confirm if they do currently.
@@flukeylukey7559 go and double check. But I’d be surprised if it doesn’t have these features. I know in markets outside of China, many EVs that aren’t teslas lack what I would consider “basic” smart EV functions.
Originally the smartest ev in china. If xp only made the p7 then it’s name is able to compete with Tesla, but now it won’t compete with Nio or Li which it could have beat but failed to.
No this G6 is proving to be a great addition for them. The P5 was a wrong turn, people didn't like the practical gimmicky nature of it. And the G9 was initially too expensive, which they revised today in their update, already having 8K confirmed orders day 1. The G6, P7i, G9 all boast XNGP highway and city capability. Still leading China's OEM ADAS
They screwed up destined to flop. G6 is too small to compete with Y, it should have been G9! But look at that design! Where’s the sexy shape of the P7 everyone loves? Shame XP
Well the G6 is pretty much exactly the same dimensions as the Model Y whilst being a fair amount cheaper. The shape is quite hard to capture on camera. But that suspension roof does do a lot to shape the side profile and front 3/4 angle. But some angles still less desirable.

Good point.
The designer is from Porsche I think. The efficiency dynamics restrict the design though. A lot of better looks would cut into the performance.
