★About Professor Herp★
I started getting into the reptile hobby in February of 2018. My first reptile was my Bearded Dragon - Maxine Pegasus (creator of duel monsters btw). Since then, I have added five Yellow Ackie Monitors (Asus, Dell, LG, and two unnamed babies), a Chacoan Black and White Tegu (Frappuccino), a Crested Gecko (Destin), and a Russian Tortoise (Tortellini). I also have a dog named Thrall (yes, from World of Warcraft) who is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - aka a Chiweenie.
My goal with this channel is to share my knowledge, experience and journey with other reptile/animal enthusiasts and become a better caretaker because of it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from the community through these videos.

I like the little photoshoot intro haha.
I think max needs a man in her life
Enjoyed the video! Very informative!
I just love your channel. It’s so informative as well as entertaining! Hopefully Max will lay some eggs soon!
The beginning immediately got a like from me lol! Great video!
haha thanks!
I really like that setup you have for her it’s dope!
Thank you!
I like the details on how to construct the box. More details on the mix would be appreciated. Were you aiming for 9 parts play sand and 1 part organic soil? What types of soil mix do people generally reguard as safe?
You are more aiming for a general feel. You want something that feels like moist sand at the beach; something you can make a sand castle with. Some people will do all soil, some people will do all sand. The overall goal is have substrate the retains moisture and is somewhat stable so it will not collapse in on your beardie. If I had to guess, I would say I did a half bag of sand to two handfuls of soil. A lot more sand than soil. Your last part got cutoff so I am not sure how to answer :)
@@ProfessorHerp What type of soil mix do people generally regard as safe? Was the end of my 1st reply. Click the little read more button if it looks cut off, that's how it works.
@@dorgendo4000 Do you mean which brands of soil are safe? Otherwise I believe I should have answered that question.

Enjoyed your information 😀 looking to make a dig box.for my Boy Jersey.he likes to sunggle alot.
I love this enclosure! My Beardie is almost 4 months old and it’s time to figure out her next enclosure. This has given me so much inspiration!!
a friend of mine gave me his beardie three days ago and she has all these symptoms, she doesn’t want to eat, shes digging a lot, she’s scratching the glass, and a can feel little bumps on the sides of her belly. its been almost three days since she hasnt ate, but i bathe her in warm water. your video has been very helpful and thanks for that! what worries me is what if she is carrying infertile eggs but cant lay them? her previous owner didnt really pay attention to her which is concerning.. and i was wondering if they have to have a different place to lay eggs or could they just stay in their enclosure? thanks for the tips!
Some people have their reptiles lay in their enclosure, some in a lay box. My Ackies lay in their enclosure. Either is fine as long as things are properly set up. Not laying infertile eggs can be a serious issue, but they can also be reabsorbed which, is not preferred, but not bad either. Holding on to those eggs in the belly is the real issue. Do some research on how long a beardie takes to drop their eggs, and if the length of time goes past that, check in with a exotic vet.
What state do you live in
Do not like to say exactly (my gfs a twitch streamer and some crazy's follow her) but I am on the east coast of the U.S.
I guess I am not the only WOW nerd that owns a bearded Dragon ! Thank you for the tip! I went to Dalaran University too!! :))
P.S: how did it work out for you?
I just got a female Bearded dragon a year old
Worked out fine but choose not to lay! For the Horde!
My girl ate some sand...she pooped it out so no impaction but I am concerned about it. Any tips
If husbandry is good impaction should not be an issue :) Impaction usually only happens if the animals health is suffering in some way
I have a bioactive bro can I just leave her in there! Substrate is deep
yep! As long as there are appropriate laying conditions!
@@ProfessorHerp good deal
I made a lay box for my beardie and she doesn't want anything to do with it, and she's due to lay infertile eggs in about two weeks. I have a question about afterwards, do you know if you feed them their bugs straight after they're finished laying or do you wait a day??
you can feed them right after they lay, either or.
Professor Herp okay, thank you for replying!!
I love her enclosure! Did you make it or buy it?
made it!
How does she get in the lay box
There is a second level of her enclosure that matches the height of the container. So it works out for me.
nice video! i made my beardie a lay box and put her in ,but she jump right out and would rather dig in her husk dig box(in the tank), burry herself and she has been slept inside for 5 days, dont know she is trying to lay eggs or just want to brumate, >
any updates?
@@ProfessorHerp she eventually went to brumation in the sand...I moved her back to her bed...no eggs
@@miss0368 sweet
i also named my beardie max lol, but he's a male
Nice! My Max is Maxine. The "ine" was added when we found out she was a she :)
Our dragon been mating and her belly been getting bigger at times it seems like there are marbles or eggs in her belly so we build her a nesting box and she seems to just be sleeping in there we put it in when she started digging.. how long does it normally take for them to lay
I believe a month to maybe a month and a half after mating. Not positive though.
@@ProfessorHerp it has been about 7 weeks since their first (we think) successful mating. We put the lay lay box in the terrarium and she dug a nice burrow and been sleeping in it for two days. I'm pretty certain she has eggs in her. Most of what I read says they lay pretty quick once the get the lay box. We are new to this the female is beautiful red color morph and the male I think is a blue morph with maybe some hypo.. both were given to us cause they needed more attention than the previous owners could give. Lizzie came to us in August she was originally purchased for 1,500usd and Buck came to us about 8 months later. Not sure of cost to that owner but he a beautiful dragon.
They both hand fed and seem to prefer it cause both avoid biting with skill and they love watermelon!
What kind of substrate are you using???
Organic soil/play sand mix. Mostly sand; like 80%.
@@ProfessorHerp whats the soil used for? Can i just use play sand?
I was wondering if I should build a dig box for my bearded dragon even if she didn’t have eggs with a male??
they can lay infertile eggs so yes!
@@ProfessorHerp ok thank you and what kind of sand should I get?
@@celebrityclips3632 www.lowes.com/pd/QUIKRETE-50-lbs-Play-Sand/3006085 is what I use
@@ProfessorHerp thank you so much!
Max is a boys name
Her full name is Maxine :)
Mine are laying eggs today
awesome! Fertile eggs? You looking to hatch them?
Yes but she had some we didn’t know but she’s still laying
best of luck!
