    Thanks, I've really enjoyed your tour. You have a beautiful garden/farm going there. It excites me to see the variety you are able to grow. I'm an avid gardener from the Northwest originally and now live in Tucson, Arizona. (talk about tough gardening challenges between the predators and extreme weather) My gal friend moved to Hernando, Florida and has complained that she can't grow anything there. I have been frustrated with her at times because I imagined she would have many options in her spacious 3/4 acre yard. I am going to send her a link to your videos so that she can see what's possible. I've subscribed and am looking forward to your next video.

      Aww! Thank you so much! I would look into a good solid perimeter fence possibly with electric (hot fence) to help with predators. Anything that can get through that (hawks, mice, snakes) can be tracked with cheap game cameras then u can deal with them another way. I don't know anything about Arizona weather though so you're on your own there lol.
      Yes send her my way! I'd love to help out :)

      I sympathize with your Florida friend, the unholy heat and extreme summer rain here limits what you can grow! Annuals are a mess after 3 months, flowering non-tropical perennials---- no. But when you find the right spot for the right plant, they grow like Crazy! What works is massing of foliage plants, flowering trees, and shade plants, inc bromeliads.

      @@richiejohnson yes it has taken me a lot of trial and error finding spots for certain things to grow haha

    Three videos later and I'm wondering whether you're farming or gardening.
    Its a beautiful home.

      sorry to hear that! that cold snap a week or so ago got a few of the top leaves of my bananas too. you might be able to notice a few brown leaves on top. luckily that green box makes a lil bit of heat so i dont think those bananas will ever freeze

      Is Borax safe for cats and ducks?

      @@TheIslandFarmer321 I put it in a used juice or water bottle..enough of a hole for the ants to get in but not the cat or ducks..I doubt they would eat it anyways..it's the sugar the ants are after..1 part borax to 4-5 parts sugar..Borax is easy to find if not locally then online..works for me I'm in Thailand with many many ants.... lol

      @@TheIslandFarmer321 mix the sugar first with warm water and get a sludge happening ..then add the borax and mix..I then let a few drops fall to the ground where the ants walk..they eat it and take back to the nest..Big nest takes 3-4 days and you will notice less and less of them.

    Living in a residential area, should there be any concerns growing vegetables that you're going to eventually eat? And why do some people plant their garden in a elevated box? Is that to prevent any ground contamination getting to their plants from living near the city?

    • @TheIslandFarmer321
      @TheIslandFarmer321  4 года назад +2

      People grow vegetables in raised garden beds to help with water drainage and to have the plants at a more comfortable level to work with. I feel like this is nice in the Northern states especially where the ground soil doesn't drain water very well. Here in Florida the ground drains water so well I find it better to plant straight onto the ground rather than a raised garden bed so the vegetables don't loose too much water in the intense heat.

      My personal opinion on plants absorbing toxins is that if the plant absorbed so much contamination that it would be harmful to us then the plant would just die from it. And if any trace amount did somehow transfer into the fruit or vegetables then it would be such a small amount that our bodies organs could easily filter it out.
      Also dirt and soil are amazing filters for cleaning water so the water underground should be very clean.
