My 'Jane' is a super fast grower! I've had it for about 6-7 years and it's already at least 15 feet tall. It absolutely loves my heavy clay soil. Did you know magnolia flowers are edible?
I don’t see Jane Magnolias very often in TN. I love them. I hope to have one next year. We chose panicle hydrangeas this year. We are making a border in the back yard and hopefully the Jane magnolia will go in between the white panicle hydrangeas.
I have a Jane magnolia in my from yard and it is glorious right now in full bloom! It really is a great tree year round and the silver/gray bark is gorgeous!
They are gorgeous. I have 20 of them growing on my property. I love the dark green foliage against the pure white flowers. They have a beautiful scent like fresh starched linen sheets. The pink and white are lovely too. 🌸
The 'Little Girl' series magnolias are also very easy to air layer if you are wanting more. I've been able to propagate more from both my Ann magnolia and my Jane this way. They are great for smaller yards and very easy to maintain. Great plant to showcase, Jim.
I have a Jane magnolia that I purchased from Lowe's maybe 16 years ago. It's now about 13 feet tall and it does produce a second smaller flush of blooms in the early summer. It's a beautiful magnolia that is worth having in your yard. I'm in Kentucky in zone 6B.
Jane magnolias are hardy here in zone 5B but not many people have them for some reason. I love mine because of its beauty but also because it shares its name with my childhood friend, Jane, who died of cancer, far too young.❤😢
I love planting remembrance trees. My sister's name is Jane. She's still here, but I'm considering planting one in my grandmother's memory garden. Or a witch hazel. My grandmother and my late sister (Marcia) always wanted to be witches (back when "Bewitched" first aired). 😊
I have 3 Jane magnolias and 1 Ann magnolia, which is slightly smaller than Jane and has darker pink flowers. I love these magnolias! However, I made a mistake and planted my front Jane too close to my front porch. So I'm having to prune it more than I wanted. You are right that Jane is best along a property line. Jane grows well and is gorgeous in Virginia Zone 7a, but gets zapped by a late frost every other year or so.
I have a deciduous magnolia outside my kitchen window. I have no idea what type. Pretty tall and already done blooming. It had one of its best years this year. I remember getting some trees removed when we first moved here and one of the guys asked if we wanted it removed. I had no idea what it was at the time but I said no simply because I wanted the privacy out the window. I believe he called it a trash tree. Glad I ignored him!
So pretty! I'm still deciding between this and a witch hazel (one of the non-yellow types) to replace a leaning thornless Hawthorn that's damaged. Good to hear how wonderful and carefree this plant is. If I don't put one in my front garden I will definitely add one to my back yard.
@KellerLatina don't panic because the leaves might turn brown, crispy and fall off. It's just stress. I nursed mine in its pot in a not-too-sunny place all summer and planted it out in early fall. It's got many swollen buds. I can't WAIT to see open! If you get one... expect shipping stress, but it makes a STRONG comeback.
Jane magnolia is awesome, thanks for sharing the details. I have a Jane tree almost 15 ft tall, 20 yrs old. But I need to remove its very close to the house wall . But I don't want to cut it. Do have idea how it can be relocated or utilized to grow a new Jane tree? TIA
Hi Jim . This Jane magnolia is amazing with the beautiful pink and whihte flowers . I have magnolia the big white flowers it it wonderful tree and l will get the Jane magnolia . Have anice day .
This was one of the best plants we bought/got established at our new construction home in 2020! 🌸 Absolutely brings us joy in March and June when it flowers, but we haven't figured out how to prevent the lovely green foliage from getting black spot each summer. 🙁 (Near a a natural property line /edge of woods in Orange co, NC) Any ideas??
I bought a Jane Magnolia February 17th it was in bloom already, seemed early. I put it n the ground and while making sure I didn't put it to deep I saw another tag on it that was buried in the pot and it said Magnolia “Galaxy”. I'm starting to think mines is a Galaxy now.
Hi Jim , I have a Miss Jane in a pot. It seams as if it is struggling. The leaves are yellowing. I don’t want it to grow in the ground. Do you have any tips on growing this tree in a pot. Thank you
Just bought the “Susan” Magnolia. I will need to move it or raise it. Didn’t realize where I put it gets too wet. It’s only been in the ground two months. I’m hoping to raise it up a bit but I like the location. Will it be ok in very wet weather for another few weeks until I can raise it up? The forecast doesn’t look good for a week or more.
Hi Jim, I'm truly a novice gardener, I just completed a master gardener certification course. That said, I not sure if my Magnolia is a Jane, but certainly looks like the one you have in this video but has to be over 20 years old and I had it pruned only on the outer branches over the past years. Now that I have some training I noticed many large internal branches that have been rubbing to the point the rubbed away some of the outer bark and internal wood of the branches getting rubbed. The shrub or tree still flowers every year including those branches up high. Should I still remove them to the ground or shorten them to the point where they no longer rub?, Thanks for any advise!
I prefer an evergreen magnolia that has flowers over a long period like Magnolia figo “Hagiwara Everblooming.” The large leaves of a deciduous magnolia need to be raked as they fall or they end up all over your neighborhood.
What is different between jane magnolia and ann magnolia? I ordered Ann magnolia at Fast Growing tree , but they shipped jane magnolia. Sir , please tell me which one is the best . Thankyou .
I accidentally purchased an Anne, when I meant to buy a Jane. The Anne blooms are a darker pink and narrower. Jane blooms have more petals that are white and pink. It doesn’t grow quite a big as a Jane.
Hi Jim just an FYI, at the end of your Mountain Snow pieris Video (4:22) you show a picture of a magnolia instead of the pieris. New editor must not be a plant person :)
Since Jane gets 15 to 20 feet tall, it won't work in a container. Ann Magnolia gets 8 to 10 feet tall and looks very similar, so you could try it in a very, very large container.
@SandraSElam NICE!!! I don't think they took any bites off of mine yet either. The late frosts & horrendous cloudless drought, however... a MUCH different story! I'm gonna try not to obscess about the deer too much this year.
Mine has taken 3 years to really bloom out. First couple of years one or two blooms then leaves. I think it sometimes takes a while to get established.
FYI: ‘Jane’ reblooms in midsummer. Mine always put out a decent flush of those purple-pink flowers in July.

How does air layer work? Sorry never heard of this?
@@KellerLatina RUclips has many videos specific to air layering.

I’ve seen a large property with five Ann magnolias planted in a group. It was spectacular in bloom.

I love both ideas!
Some sources like NCSU Extension say they’re hardy through Zone 4a.
I got Magnolia Royal crown with light scented..
One of my jane magnolia just bloomed out again. It's late September here. Its got more blooms than it did in the spring.
Jane is an awesome tree, I have Anne in my yard because it is slightly smaller. Thank you for all the amazing info.

We have several. We did have to protect for a few years from the deer but so far this year they seem fine. Gorgeous show
I bought & planted one of these last fall. Been looking for information on Jane since then. Thank you for creating some content about her!
Beautiful blooms! Reminds me of the pastel colors of spring and the Easter season! 💐

YAAYE! A Jane Magnolia video! PERFECT! I JUST recieved my Jane in the mail and I ahave NO CLUE!!!
May i ask where you ordered from?
@KellerLatina I answered but the censorship police stole my response.

Guys please does "jane" or liliflora magnolia need any strstification to break dormancy/fruiting like peaches?

I have a Miss Jane in a pot. It seams as if it is struggling. The leaves are yellowing. I don’t want it to grow in the ground. Do you have any tips on growing this tree in a pot.
Thank you
Can u cut a branch and plant that branch somewhere else and let it grow?

Just bought one at Costco. Would you say the Jane is pretty wind resistant?

Shorten them so they don't rub. Or if you have more than 5 main trunks, you can also cut the worst-looking rubbing branch to the ground.

Are these what we called Saucer Magnolias back in Indiana?
Not the same, but related. Jane is a hybrid with the Star magnolia as one parent crossed with another type of magnolia.
Can I plant a Jane Magnolia in a large planter

We had one back at our previuos home and it was a race against the squirrels! They’d pull off the buds!!!!ugg
I have the Star Magnolia and same problem! The squirrels won't leave it alone!!! grrrrrrr
I read that deer eat the blooms but does anyone in here know if deer will eat these when not in bloom?
I have a herd of deer behind my house and they have never touched my magnolias.
@SandraSElam NICE!!! I don't think they took any bites off of mine yet either. The late frosts & horrendous cloudless drought, however... a MUCH different story! I'm gonna try not to obscess about the deer too much this year.
Is a Jane Magnolia the same as a Tulip Magnolia (or am I just making that name up?) ;-))
"Tulip magnolia" is a generic nickname for all magnolias of this type.
spread those two big branches rather than pruning them.
My Jane didn't even flower. It just started to leaf out. I'm so sad.
How long have you had it? Mine leafed out first before it flowered the following year.
@@Yvonne_ennovY I planted it in the fall of last year.
Not sure of your zone or where you planted it/how many hours of sunlight it gets, but maybe it just needs more time to get established.

I would like to consider your plant advice, but you really do not know what you're talking about.
Hi, could some one please say how and If we can graft those Magnolia trees, i graft trees but never did Magnolia trees ,i have Knowles about them!!
