I though you are only suppose to dig a hole wider but not deeper because the loose soil can cause the plant to sink below ground level as the ground under it settles. You also picked it up by the trunk and not the root ball. I doubt either of these did any hard to the tree because its small but with a very large tree you could hurt it.
Ive been tasked with planting a magnolia here in TN, by my wife. Very very helpful, thank you! My acreage doesnt have 1 magnolia tree, I am a tad worried its not going to grow. I have mulch not dung. Garden soil mixture too.
How is your magnolia doing now? I just planted two recently, on my acre property. We're in North Central TX and have clay soil. I had to amend it a bit to make sure the magnolias have the best chance at a start. They're about 4 ft tall right now.
Thankyou for this video. Ive got an old tree root system from a native brush bird feeding tree ( im in Brisbane Australia) where I need to plant my Magnolia that has lots of leaves on it. Its an evergreen. Should I get all that old root system out of ground?
And then after all that love and care and hope put in that tree, next spring deer come and eat it's young tender branches off, almost killing the tree. That's what happened to all my fruit and nut trees.
id love to see an update on the tree, just to see how fast a Magnolia tree grows. thank you for the video 👍
Very helpful and useful guide.
Thank you!! for all the detail and length of video!!
wow I wish our ground was that easy to dig. We have clay soil in Houston, Tx. I liked the video. It was helpful.

Good video.
I have a 9" Ann magnolia to plant. Can I use fish emulsion instead of dung? Can I add the deluded emulsion into the soil or water...or both????

Probably no need but done plants can regrow from roots, if so the only reasonable thing is to spray it, if yours is dead then it should be fine
Please update us on this magnolia.
