Our resource was the Newgate Calendar which liked to take some license - usually from a religious and moralistic standpoint (eg if they had better known God they would not have....), but yes, the case did happen and did involve King James VI , later to be King James I of England. Rough times in the backwoods of Scotland.... They always do creepy stories well!😉
Always found this story fascinating. Mainly because I'm not quite sure that it is true. The tale is just too fantastical. The Beans didn't make a mistake once in 25 years? The larger the group, the bigger the chance of mistakes. So... 🤔🤔🤔
The story comes from The Newgate Calendar which did like to add interest. We are not really able to corroborate much past the Newgate Calendar for 17th century tales. I know it is brought up in tours to see the crown jewels now. Ah well. It makes for a great story. 🙄
