Does Kentucky Belong in The Midwest? #34

In this episode we're at The Nook in St. Paul, MN. First caller has a dilemma for his sisters wedding, Next caller is from Colorado and loves Fleet Farm, last caller states their case on Kentucky being apart of the Midwest.
As a Minnesotan who moved to Tennessee (on the border of Kentucky) 2 years ago, Kentucky absolutely belongs in the midwest. Their behavior and willingness to randomly chat with strangers is right on par with any other midwest state. They even have Menards for cripes sake! Ohio hangs further East and yet we include them. Why not Kentucky? I always find myself hanging out more in KY than TN as it just feels more like back home in MN.
Keep'er movin
That’s the south traits NOT THE MIDWEST
@@shitposterdee8664 You clearly haven't been to the midwest. Lol Another thing going for Kentucky being in the midwest is the fact that you can get it's shape by using your hand. We want to talk mittens with WI and MI. Take your right hand with thumb against fingers like a drill sergeants 'knife hand' and you got yourself Kentucky. Done. Midwest. Not to mention KY literally is connected to Illinois, Indian, and Ohio, and isn't any further south than Missouri is. Like come on. It should definitely be a midwest state.
I disagree. Bring Indiana to the south with ya, too
As a Tennessean the south can never be the Midwest. But both have very country/respectful traits.
God i needed to find this podcast. My Midwest self is LIVING
Apple podcast it’s free
Midwest people ski ice 🤣😂
My best friend’s brother stood with us at her wedding. He wore a suit and held no flowers, I thought it was classy. The groom’s sister stood on his side too, and she wore a dress and I believe she held flowers.
I’m so glad Myles suggested looking up the Fleet Farm “We love it” video. We don’t have Fleet Farms here in Indiana so I had never seen it. 10/10 would recommend.
I just watched it lol
As a Kentuckian, I see too many similarities in my town and every other small midwestern town to say that kentucky isn't a part of the midwest. Our "historic downtown" is one of the biggest similarities i've noticed
As a Hoosier, we are not letting Kentucky into the Midwest. Not gonna happen.
@@melynn44 Hate to tell you -- Kentucky has been considered Midwest for centuries.
@@scruffythejanitor1969 idk about “centuries”, we haven’t even had a West for much longer than a century goofy
@@melynn44 we dont want in were just the unlucky southern state that tis closest to the most damn yankees
The dollar on the wall in a bar is the most midwestern thing ever
This is why I say Florida should be an honorary Midwest state. First time I saw that was down near Panama City Beach.
Kentucky is that friend that’s just a little off. You let them hang out with your group but he doesn’t completely fit in. But he’s nice enough that you still let them hang out but he’s the one that always has to go get the beer.
Yes! You said it perfectly.
You better what your beer!
I was Man of Honour for my sister’s wedding. We’re a small, weird Canadian family - but that’s still no excuse.
I have bellied up to all of your pod casts on RUclips! You two are class acts👍🏻 🍻from Glencoe Ontario
Wow! Didn't know yall did a show at my work! That's so cool. I'm a cook at the Nook!
Yup can confirm as a dedicated bass fisherman (albeit not from the south but SW Pennsylvania) I guage the size in weight. The only exception is when I'm catching either Walleye or Trout...those have to be in inches.
i like that you spent more time with your callers, even tho more people are sad they dont get to talk, it makes for a better listener experience and seems less rushed
Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee are the lands of “bleeding over”. They got little bits of everyone around them. Kinda like Texas not knowing if it’s Southern, Western or Midwestern. I feel the Midwest is from Indiana to the Rockies.
Tennessee doesn’t border the Midwest
Louisville KY resident. One thing i know about kentucky there's alot of work here, that's why I moved here a couple years ago. Love the pod y'all, but we need to pull out a map and start talking about this whole Midwest thing. Idk where the term Midwest came from but if you take a gander at the map and say Midwest while your looking at the map your gonna look slightly to the left of the map. Not mid east of the map. Sorry everyone but thats my argument.
I heard in the colonial days that everything from the west side of the Appalachian mountains to the Mississippi river was considered "the west". Once pioneers started pushing past the Mississippi then that territory became "the west" causing people to start referring to the territory formerly known as the west as "the Midwest". Don't know if that's true but it sounded good to me.
Kentucky is not in the Midwest, and this is a hill I will die on. There are some places more Midwestern than Indiana, and there are some places in Indiana (SW Indiana) that are more Southern from Kentucky. But.....generally speaking, Kentucky is in the South.
It's a Southern Thing has already said so anyway.
The Midwest isn't a geographic entity AS much as it is an ideology
isn't midwest from when our coutry expanded Westward? Not knowing how large our coutry eas, Kentucky is considered midway to the other coast, as of the times of Lewis and Clark. So.....
@@melynn44KY is definitely Midwestern they never even seceded
I'm from St. Paul and my cat growing up was named Sexy Lexy. I pray that young me wrote that on a dollar bill and it ended up at the Nook and on this podcast.
Yes, I spent a year in Lou-vull and was shocked by its Midwesterness. No one told me.
As someone in Southern Indiana I def feel like Kentucky has a strong case.
Northern Kentucky anchored by Cincinnati and arguably Louisville is the Midwest. Eastern Kentucky anchored by Lexington is Appalachia. Western Kentucky anchored by Bowling Green and also arguably Louisville is the South. You can tell which is which by who calls it "pop", "soda", or "coke".
This was one of the best podcasts I've watched! It was hilarious!
It's a Southern Thing has already claimed Kentucky for the South. So...I think that's the ruling.
Western Kentucky and Louisville = Midwest. Rest of the State = South.
@@scruffythejanitor1969 Northern Kentucky = Midwest
As a resident of Western Kentucky we are definately SOUTHERN!
A lot of us would like to know how to call into the podcast.
i was just thinking that
No. Determine regions by LLWS map. The build a canal to the Kentucky border so they technically have a Great Lake.
There is actually a tunnel on 57th Street in Sioux falls east of Louise avenue.
Past just the one state, I think we should all work on a broader midwest/southern unity. I think we can really compliment eachothers lifestyles. I'm willing to elaborate further.
I was already laughing in the first five minutes, what really got me is at 4:58
The west side of Kentucky does the Eastern part of Kentucky is its own wild place
Hello from Wyoming!!! You need longer podcasts!!!!!! I love this shit lol 😆
“He needs to go to rapid city and start trappin out there” 😂
Trapid City
Here to vouch for Charlie I bought a separate shop vac for inside the house. It has changed the game. My kids could throw up knock over a bowl or cereal and dump out a pound of flour and I wouldn't sweat it.
Imagine being emasculated by standing on the bride's side in a suit.
Literally! Imagine being upset your sister wanted you to be on her side at her wedding
Seriously....I was really hoping the guys would just fully eviscerate the guy and call him out on it.
The nook is great. Love that place.
Kole, I went to Berthoud and lived in Windsor. Tellshz yorz Mom I-sayz hi!
shout out to the 313! let's go Lions!
“Everybody from the 313 throw your MF hands up and follow me!”
@adamwarren5654 this is exactly what I was thinking 😂😂
I was just at that bar the other day! It’s cool!
Any state that touches Illinois is Midwestern
we dont actually touch illinois those 2 rivers are ther for areason below the ohio and east of the mississippi is the south were the birth place of JEFFERSON DAVIS for crying out loud but we also birhted that damn yankee lincolin too lol
@@matthewlee9728 Kentucky remained loyal to the Union.
The peoples government of ky seceded and was accepted into tge csa on Dec 10 1861
@@matthewlee9728 Yet, the loyal people of Kentucky and the Union army prevented that.
Well your obviously a library yankee
archery is loved down here in kentucky. i went to many comps
Midwesterners just remind of polite Australians. You lot seem like a good bunch.
The burgers at the Nook are frickin great
What’s with the WI & IL rivalry? Is it just the sports or something more?
Charlie was thinking of "311" tho "303!" is also a band as well.
When he said 313 I immediately went back to the end of 8 Mile...
Literally don’t understand the problem with this guy being invited to be part of his own sisters wedding 🧐
Like. What would your DAUGHTERS think? Who cares??
Yes....God forbid the kids see him be supportive of his sister. Charlie tried to tell him what a doof he was being by not supporting his sister, but he kind of got drowned out.
@@melynn44 yeaaaah I sometimes find Myles’ content and takes to be a bit… old fashioned? His one short about “how to never have to do laundry again” by just being really bad at it pissed me off cuz weaponised incompetence is a real thing lol
Anyway sorry yeah I’m glad Charlie at least tried
I wanna call in and tell you about the Pacific Northwest.. it'll be really boring, we really don't have anything to talk about culturally but we do have some great mountains, lakes and rivers.
I had a roommate in the marines from Eua Claire and he was suprisingly sensitive to us calling it Eclair. But he also had a Roush mustang and i finally got to drive it after he got drunk.
McCoy's Irish Pub in Elk River, Minnesota welcomes you
Dude needs to man up and think of his sister and not himself.
How do i call into this, and how do i know about next live pod cast????
I think on their instagram.
“F#ck free world! 3-1-3!, F#ck free world! 3-1-3!”
Solid case for Kentucky in my book.
OR ... we could simply designate all non-mountainous, relatively flat land between the Rocky and Appalachian Ranges north of Tennessee as being Midwest
Yes do it, podcast just reading $1 bills!!!
I hope you made a Chucky Buns dollar for the bar. 🤨
New subscriber here! Love your content!!!!
Having moved to Texas from Nebraska and I can say I get more Midwest vibes from a family from Kentucky than I do from a family from Chicago.
For example the Kentucky family knows that a “short” visit is a couple 2-3 hours not including the goodbye. Which most of the other families we know the short visit is measured in minutes…
Now go to Louisville and tell me it’s not the exact same as a Chicago family.
charlie berens moment of wonder hahaha
313 for life, baybeee. ❤️
I'm guessing the sister in law was NOT going to have her stand in their wedding - little sad actually :(
How does one call in to this program?
I've asked that too.
Pretty sure they post it on their twitter
Instagram
What about Saskatchewan and the southeast of Alberta/southwest of Manitoba
Wish this podcast was Charlie and dude dad! Now that would be the best podcast ever!
No.
Hey when are you guys going to talk about Indiana?
To the bellied up fans: not the first caller from sue falls or ?
Bass by weight. Trout is by inches unless it's big then you give weight and length. Just my Cali upbringing.
FTP is all i gotta say. Love y'all.
Also on Preston's sister problem. I say take the position and just wear a suit, it's for one day and you can make her day.
It would be man of honor or brides man, not bridesmaid or maid of honor!
Jayz woulda wrote it on a $100.
Snoop dog on a joint.
Is my guess.
Why would you want to be the "walmart greeter of weddings"?
Unless your single & just doing your homework early if ya know what I mean....
Get da merch and f**k da bears!
Berthoud is only like 30 minutes from fort Collins 😂 not as small a town as strausburg. Way more stoplights in Berthoud than most small towns. But fort Collins is ass 😂😂😂
No Kentucky sucks.
Love there. You can’t take it. No water/lakes. It’s torcher.
lmao what? ky has 40+ lakes
Too bad that three dollar bill was a fake...
I fuckin saw these guys at Fleetfarm in Fargo! ❤❤ i was too anxious to go up to them tho
It absolutely does not.
What are you yahoo's smokin Blue Grass
Jay z's real name is Jatu
where'r the people? If that was inMaine, Man, Coffee Brandy'd be flowin'! Rum n Cokes, Rum n Moxie's main' their way!
I love Lexington, Kentucky!
313 -> Detroit
Kentucky is Southern.
Official Midwest States as follows:
North Dakota - South Dakota - Nebraska - Kansas - Missouri - IOWA (Go Hawks!) - Minnesota - Wisconsin - Illinois - Kentucky (for the Bourbon alone!) - Indiana - Michigan - Ohio - Pennsylvania (west of State College ONLY)
You can erase Indiana from this list. As the official keeper of all things Hoosier in this comment section, we refuse to be in the same region as Kentucky.
Kentucky has Burbon and a dish called Hot Brown. What is Indiana bringing to the table.
313, detroit area code!
Fleet Farm smells like tire rubber
We are definitely part of the Midwest!
I want to see Miles do a belly roll.
If you do not live west of the st. Louis Missouri arch than you are not part of the Midwest
Playgirl yep I'd be in for 200 bucks
The Midwest is from the arch to the west id say to about middle Montana no fuss about it. If youre east of the arch I know you want in but youre just not west.
Anything Louisville & to the west of Louisville is midwestern. Anything else is southern.
