    I just love the fact that you are open about not liking tampons or menstrual cups! I honestly feel really really uncomfortably using both and it’s really cool to see someone claim pads as their period product! I hate when people shame people for their period product of choice. THANK YOU!

    • @colormemandy
      @colormemandy 6 лет назад +6

      Katie Parrish I felt the same way until I discovered tampons. It was so much less anxiety because even with pads I was always worried about leaking, lol. No one should be shamed for their period product preference! One thing I do want to encourage people to be aware of is cotton tampons, pads and liners! They’re awesome!

    • @lauraredd614
      @lauraredd614 6 лет назад +1

      Katie Parrish I get severe cramps when I use regular size tampons or larger. I have always felt comfortable wearing pads but was shamed by peers that I didn’t use a “cleaner” tampon.

    I am so glad that you are so open about periods. I grew up in a household where it is mostly women and so we are very open about periods. But I know in a lot of houses women aren't that open. So the fact that you are being so open about this with your 3,000,000+ viewers makes such a huge statement to me and I think that it is so helpful for the girls out there who don't have someone to be this open with. I think it is a really great thing you are doing Ingrid. Thank you for being such a inspiration to me.

    I would also really recommend Thinx Underwear, I have some that I love and you can throw them in the wash! They actually absorb your period and remain dry. I believe they also have a Foundation that gives back. :)

  • @FranFellow731
    @FranFellow731 6 лет назад +30

    I tried discs because you said they worked well. I don't usually love using internal methods because the inserting and removing of them starts to make my insides sore, but when i have to be at work on my feet and constantly moving, i know that even Always Infinity pads are going to rip to shreds in the back and i will get the stickiness. Therefore, I LOVE the discs for shopping, work, the gym, anything long term and/or active really. I don't have to think about it for hours, I can't feel it like i can a tampon, and i don't constantly want to go to the bathroom for a wipe down. I use both pads and discs throughout the cycle and overall waste less total because of the extended wear. I also kind of like being more in (literal) touch with my insides. the instructions seemed so confusing at first until i used it, and it was like "OH! I GET IT NOW!" and that felt really cool. Also, i get a lot of discharge on a daily basis (something no one ever really talks about) and i have to wear a liner every day just to not feel wetness. i can go through up to 3 a day just to stay dry. I wish someone would come up with better management for something like that!

    • @sweetness371

    • @JessicaMaykeup
      @JessicaMaykeup 6 лет назад +4

      Katy holy shit I thought that was just me. I get a lot of discharge on a daily basis to. I go through 3 liners a day. A hate the wet feeling. And I don’t get my period. Haven’t had it in 6 years due to my ovarian cysts so why I get discharge is beyond me

    • @littie766
      @littie766 6 лет назад +1

      Ugh its good to know I'm not the only one who gets a lot of discharge. I tend to just wear boxers when going to bed or relaxing at home in lieu of my panties, (as I dont wanna get them dirty) but it sucks to have to wear a liner everywhere I go. I tried to go without the other day but I swear its the most uncomfortable feeling.

    • @franceskacostamagna1036
      @franceskacostamagna1036 6 лет назад +4

      As long as you aren't using tampons for it! My great grandmother HATED having ANY discharge, and so she wore tampons all month long, and for too long. Caused her to be the only person in my family lineage so far to have ever gotten cancer, when she was diagnosed with cervix cancer, caused by that lifestyle. People understand the important of not leaving tampons in too long better now, but always remember it's SUPER important.

    • @Raciepie

  • @xoOMFGox

    Changed to a reusable cup this year and it completely changed how I feel about my period. Best thing I've done for me. Definitely something everyone should try.

  • @mt6627
    @mt6627 6 лет назад +27

    Honestly it just really annoys me when people judge someone who uses regular pads (or tampons) "because it's bad for the environment". I mean, diva cups and such just doesn't work for me, and yeah, there are reusable pads, or period panties, but if i'm out all day, i'm not gonna start changing my underwear multiple times a day in a public bathroom and carry the dirty ones with me.I think the most important thing is to be comfortable on your period. If you want to save the environment- there are other things in the world we can change to do that first...

    • @marasmithson6218
      @marasmithson6218 6 лет назад

    This video is so awesome! I have seen other bloggers talk about periods - they looked ashamed and giggle the whole time. By speaking about this openly, candidly, and just like a normal person (!) you are making periods normal and NOT taboo, as they should be! I don't even have a period at all for medical reasons, but I still found this video refreshing and informative. I will be passing it along to friends.

      last time i was on my period, i spent an hour hogging the filthy dorm bathroom, trying to stick a menstrual cup up my vagina, and it never seemed to fit! i tried so many different folds, but i couldn't manage to the lip entirely inside of me.

    I love your real talk about periods and hope it helps to end the negative stigma too many people have about them. • @GhostsOfThings
    @GhostsOfThings 6 лет назад

    Thank you for such an informative video! It took me over a year of trying almost every time to figure out how so use my menstrual cup. For so long it was just so painful and it seemed like I was built weird or whatever, but eventually my absolute hatred and frustration for pads forced me into figuring it out. Nothing quite like spite to push me forward. It's been like 2 years and now I can't even imagine doing it another way.
    I'm just really happy to see you talk about things like this. The more we talk about it, the better! And people can find solutions that work the best for them, without shame.

  • @laughing_lavender

    Hey Ingrid! I have the same issue with tampons and menstrual cups. Recently there’s been a huge push to use menstrual cups, especially from the environmentally-friendly community. While I try to create as little waste as possible and purchase eco-friendly products, using the cup is not an option for me. I’ve opted for 100% cotton pads, and I find that they are more comfortable and breathable than regular pads. Thanks for the vid!

Just wanna share a more sustainable alternative apart from reusable pads. Period underwear like Thinx or the ones from Annigan (what I use personally) are a great alternative. I'm sure there are other options out there too. Please look them up and let's work together to reduce waste. :)

    So pleased to see this on your channel! I have been watching you for years (since you had a pet lizard!) and remember how squeamish you would be about feminine products and being a little disappointed in that. I'm SO happy and proud to see you be not only so open, but open to sharing with others! Yes girl, keep it up!!!

    Yay! I totally recommended flex cups and reusable pads on your last video! I'm so glad they worked for you..... Thanks for making these videos..... There are lots of options out there and no one should have to sit out or feel like they have to use something that's painful or uncomfortable 😁

    Yes to Advil liquid gels. They are the only ones I will go to because they work! I will buy a new bottle if I'm out and about when I start getting cramps.

    I love how inclusive you are! A lot of people think that there's only pads or tampons for periods, unless you're a hippy or vegan 🤣 I love reusable pads, so soft plus better environmentally. Love you Ingrid!

    My first few times using the discs were really strange, because I wasn't comfortable sticking my finger up there. But once I got used to it, I felt happy that I finally had an option for swimming/beach days because I haaaate tampons. That said, sometimes even the discs sit a little uncomfortably and make me feel crampy. It's a crapshoot as to whether it'll not feel like anything, or if it'll make me feel crampy.

    I have to wear pantiliners every day because of discharge, and the always (i use the ones with the blue wrappers) have been the BEST. They stay on the best, are so comfortable, and the packaging stays secure (unlike Carefree) because of the lil tape

    Huge bonus for the pads in the beginning, the wrappings are a cloth type, so they aren’t crazy noisy in public bathrooms!👍🏼

    A company called intimina recently came out with a reusable version of a menstrual disc called the ziggy cup. I personally haven't used it, I think it just recently came out, but that could be a good reusable option that might work really well for you since you like the discs. Great video btw!

    Girl, I swear by Advil Liqui-Gels. I get really bad cramps and tried a lot of different over the counter stuff, but those are the only one's that truly offered some relief. I'm also an advocate for overnight pads. I used to really love the Kotex ones you mentioned but recently tried some CVS Overnight Maxi Pads on a whim when they were out of the Kotex ones and I'm in love. They have some extra flare out in the back so I'm extra protected and I haven't leaked since.

    I love the L. pads! But like you said they don't last as long, but I use them on the tail end of my period since I tend to be lighter after day 2. And I like that they're great for people that are sensitive/prone to irritation too!

    All about those winggggsss!! This is great, Ingrid - thanks for sharing and also for trying to change the perception of pads! I used to have really bad period pains (which I used to take Chinese herbal medicine for) but since getting a copper IUD I haven’t really been having any period pains!

    Thanks for mentioning the reusable pads. You can buy a wet bag to put used pads in when you're out. Then just wash them when you come back home. :)

    I find Gladrags to be a bit expensive. If anyone is interested there are a ton of options on Etsy and lots of facebook groups hosted by individual pad makers. Thanks to Ingrid for promoting the reusable option!
