Thank you so much for giving so much helpful information!! I’m a high school junior considering this but I doubt I’m academically strong enough. Freshman year messed me up grades wise (although I got all As sophomore year, I have a 3.25☠️)
thank you 💖🥺✨ and do give it a shot!! tbh freshman year really shouldn’t exist in the grade book 😒for me, my freshman grades were the lowest TT but from freshman year onward it was straight As. As of right now it might seem as if your average is low but if you continue to get good grades in junior year up till first sem. of senior year, you’re average will most def. go up. Not to mention that I do think they look at the grade trend through all four years, so if you have an increasing trend everything should actually be good. Don’t worry and please do not give up any shots you have. & thank you for commenting this was so sweet ❣️
so for the brown-risd dual do you have to meet the criteria of both? Like excel academically and artistically, I think I have artistic down but academics wise I’m doing really good on grades and end of year tests but I don’t really have any ecs, clubs, or awards😭😭💀 definitely need to get on that but I’m not even sure where to start loll
hi! so if you’re considering applying to Brown-RISD Dual, you’d be applying to both Brown and RISD separately whilst submitting a supplemental application for the Brown-RISD dual degree program. If you get accepted into both institutions, then you will get considered for the Brown-RISD dual degree program. So think of it as if you wanted to get into two schools (aka yes you’d want to meet the criteria for Brown and for RISD.) I’d say a good place to start is to (as cliche as it sounds) sit down and ask yourself what exactly you want to do in college. From what I know, the dual degree program digs students that have a passion for two things that would be hard to pursue if you were to just attend one institution. For me it was environ. science and illustration. And here’s a list of all the current student combinations in the program (it’s pretty cool hehe): www.brown.edu/academics/brown-risd-dual-degree/academics/student-degree-combinations but point being. if you’re able to think of what exactly (or an idea) of what you’d like to do in college or the future, and it involves a combination of two or more passions that you wouldn’t other wise get if you were just in art school or a normal college then BiNgOoo lmao you’ve got it. It’ll come naturally after that. Start doing some ECs that relate to those passions you thought of. You can do a few based on the art related side and the a few based on your other passion, but even better would be if you’d be able to find a way to combine the two. There are plenty of art competitions that involve STEM themed art (if that’s what you’re into), but if you’re humanities based I’m sure there are also a lot of competitions based on certain social justice themes, some of which might hit home for you. You don’t need to do model mun or speech and debate or science fairs for the sake of having ECs. The main goal is to focus on the few passions you have in mind and show your dedication to them. For example I did quite a few competitions for env. Science themed art competitions and also worked in an envs lab for a bit more than a year. But yeah! Hopefully this was somewhat helpful. It is so overwhelming (more overwhelming than I think it should be) when applying to college becomes a reality. I remember being so stressed it was awful 🥲 but it all comes down to finding those passions and working within them. It becomes easier when you know what areas you should be targeting! Best of luck on apps! You’ll do great
@@amaraverse. glad you found the info helpful! and aw pls don't say that!!!! you could always give it a shot! i wasn't expecting to get in either when i was applying lol TTTT
Hi!! I was actually just thinking about sharing my supplemental essays for brown (though my main concern being that they might change the questions this year) along with my dual degree essay (I know there isn’t much info on the program you can find online.) So if you do want a video on those i’d be happy to make one! But before any of that, my main tip would be to start by talking about yourself FIRST then end with how you see yourself fitting into the program. A lot of the times it's easy to start the essay off by talking about how much you know about the program (which is great; it shows that you've done your research) and what you like about the program. But imo, the program is looking for best fits, aka someone that *needs* the dual degree education, meaning that you have to persuade them that you are THAT person. Show them that you are someone that needs the dual degree education rather than telling them that you would like a dual degree edu. (show don't tell really is important in all assays) So basically “how the program would help ME with my needs” rather than “reasons why I would like to get into the program.” if this makes any sense. this is rather abstract wo examples 🥲 Basically convince the program that you are a person who has equal passions for art and academia, and that the dual degree program is THE program that will help you in pursuing your dual passions. So once again, start off with yourself. Tell them who you are and show that you are a person with inseparable passion toward art+academia, and then end with the message that the dual degree program is the (if not the only) opportunity for you to continue your combined passions. Hopefully this makes some sense. 🫠 Again, let me know if you'd want a video on essays in particular, I know it's confusing when there aren't any concrete examples. Thank you for commenting though 💖! Dazzling day ✨
@@dazzlingfish no it totally made sense thank you so much and i love a video like you said there aren’t much out there and it would and me and others a lot. thank you for considering it and of course, if you feel OK sharing, could you also talk about like your stats maybe just for the more academic side only if you what to
did you recieve scholarships? risd is so prestigious in the art world and a big turnoff for me is the cost, so Im curious on how their financial aid process was for you if that's something u did. great pieces btw, the hot air balloon one was so captivating, i gasped when u tied the metaphor to icarus
hey! I just came across this video and wanted to ask what your sat, courses, stats for high school etcetc + extracurriculars were for the application to brown?? I checked and didnt see any video dedicated to that! thank you and sorry for the inconvenience but ild love to know >:D (also keep up the good content! its very aesthetic-y ifykwim 💖)
I was looking for a portfolio that features watercolour artworks! Yours are adorable, I love that you include fish in your art so often. Edit: Can whoever sees this comment reply with something to it so I can come back to this video? Comments also help with engagement, so it will boost the video as well.
@@dazzlingfish I love watercolour but I think I'll enjoy working with acrylic paint and pencils much more. I love the bright colours that I have to use with watercolour but I was taught that I can't let my strokes be visible with, and I don't like that - I love texturing my art. I'm excited to buy some acrylic paint soon. Also I'm planning on drawing a piece of my friend with watercolour for my portfolio.
If your goal is to make the text stand out, then yes ofc! There is no written rule to what colors should be paired with each other, but if you want text to stand out to the viewers, use complementary colors and pay attention to the color temperature as well. If your background is cooler, the opt for warmer text. Also, tonally speaking, if you have a dark background, make sure that your text isn’t too saturated (bcs that would mean the tonal value of the text would be close to the background). Opt to a less saturated - like a lighter/more white-mixed color - so that there is tonal contrast. Hope this helps!!
hi! i was wondering whether every piece made has to have some kind of meaning/story behind it? i wanted to create these graphic design movie posters cuz i thought that would be a cool idea but also to demonstrate my knowledge in adobe illustrator/photoshop and that i can redesign things, but now im not so sure.
Hi!!! Apologies for the late reply 🥲 Imo no! Not every piece has to have a deep meaning or story. I think the main thing the admin judges want to see is passion, which comes in many forms. having deep meaning and stories behind your pieces is a way of showing how thoughtful you are behind the composition and details of your pieces, and how you probably don’t just draw for the sake of drawing (you draw for yourself) - aka passion. experimenting with art styles and trying out new ways of creating art also shows passion, since you obviously must be interested in art, specifically “honing your craft,” if you’re trying out new ideas you find interesting. Not to mention that you said that graphic design movie posters would be a “cool idea,” (and you should definitely mention in your add. details section ‘why’ you find it cool) which shows that you find art “fun” aka you have passion. so answer again is no! not everything has to have a story behind it. hopefully this helps a bit! dazzling day ✨✨
haiiiii i rlly like ur art fjegsfvssjjwkw im like y10 rn am considering the risd brown dual program. I wanted to ask if mby if u had an extra curriculars or stuff like that. For risd they mainly look at portfolio but im worried for brown cuz we have uni councelling at skl and my councellor says that brown wants students who r like activists (and im kinda worried cuz im not really that type of student😭) anywayssss tysm for taking the time to read my rambling I LUV UR ART AND VLOGS DJDVSVABJAKAKQ
HEI FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU THIS IS THE SWEETEST THING EVER AHSOSOAJDHDKSNDJDJ 🥺♥️♥️♥️ Since girl is in the trenches with finals rn I can’t really curate a good sum up for ECs for you but here’s smt I had previously sent someone asking and hopefully that will suffice for now but let me know if you want smt more detailed! My top 2 ECs I listed in the activities section (based on my memory, though it is quite foggy as of now 🥲) we’re 1) art and 2) research. To be fair, i didn’t have the largest variety of activities, they were all either based on art or envs. So for 1) art I just wrote that I draw and paint nearly on a daily basis, and what type of art I make. For 2) research, my friend and I had been working at an env engineering lab for nearly two years on a an experiment we designed for the national science fair. We ended up publishing a journal paper after the competition. The other ECs I had were 3) club president of the design club at our school, 4) speech and poetry recitations, and 5) poetry (publishing in the school magazine+newspaper, student editor) The others probably weren’t that important since I genuinely can’t remember them. There was an odd one I put either 6th or 7th (I think it should still be max 10 activities?) that my dad and I go ganoderma picking as a hobby. But to sum up, all my ECs, thought frankly a bit scattered here and there, relate to what I want to do in college and in general future. Something to do with art, envs (research, ganoderma picking played an influential role), and the literary arts (poetry writing, speech and poetry recitation). The most important thing is to put down and do activities that are related to what you can imagine yourself still doing in the next 5 years. If you do debate for the sake of debate, orchestra for the sake of orchestra, chances are you don’t really have passion for those and won’t touch on them as much (or will, but evidently not so passionately) in your essays. It will show in your essays what things you enjoy and want to continue pursuing.
@@dazzlingfish WHAAAAAA TYSM this is super helpful!!! but fr tho having an env engineering lab sounds so cool wot whaaaa. I feel like what u said rlly gave me a new perspective to ECs (things like daily painting and Ganoderma picking)!!!!!真的超级感谢!!!ps我一直不知道灵芝的英文是ganoderma哈哈我还特意搜了一下

I was looking for a portfolio that features watercolour artworks! Yours are adorable, I love that you include fish in your art so often.
Edit: Can whoever sees this comment reply with something to it so I can come back to this video? Comments also help with engagement, so it will boost the video as well.
Hiii!! Thank you so so much
@@dazzlingfish I love watercolour but I think I'll enjoy working with acrylic paint and pencils much more. I love the bright colours that I have to use with watercolour but I was taught that I can't let my strokes be visible with, and I don't like that - I love texturing my art. I'm excited to buy some acrylic paint soon. Also I'm planning on drawing a piece of my friend with watercolour for my portfolio.
Can I use dark colors for the background (such as a dark purple) and bright colors for the text descriptions (such as a bright orangish red) ??
The other ECs I had were 3) club president of the design club at our school, 4) speech and poetry recitations, and 5) poetry (publishing in the school magazine+newspaper, student editor)
The others probably weren’t that important since I genuinely can’t remember them.
Did you ED to either school?
