@@EvilWaysGaming AKA, VST player boxes! You get $30.00 apps, with attached midi controller and cheap lcd touch screen! IF YOU ARE LUCKY. Korg is so cheap, you get a crappy little old school micro screen! The only folks producing actual instruments are the ones who went back to analog components! I'd say, MAYBE Roland tried to dedicate purpose based silicone chips. BUT, seeing how it all came to VST after the fact makes one think it was Software to start with anyway! Behringer has been one of the few who have done almost all REAL instrument based gear. All original electronics (OK, dont' start on what the stole or copied) they still are designing and producing old school 1970's 80's level tech synths! The rest? Kronos is the biggest rip off EVER put out to the public. I say that, then Yamaha and Roland reply, hold my beer, here is a 5k-6k DAW in a box! 'Don't even get me started' of the stupidity of the consumer!

But then every time I hear the Wavestate, for example, I can't help myself but wishing one of those desktop modules despite of knowing it's software based and I could get the VST as a standalone. I really like the sounds coming from that unit, and the form factor is convenient (for me, anyways) when partnered with a digital piano to expand its capabilities. But I totally get your point.

Not much to do with this thread, other than to say, I'm happy I can play with both ideas and it won't cost anything. I agree though, Wavestate has some impressive sounds. At some point, when they start coming up more on Reverb used, mint condition, for 4 or 5 hundred, I'll grab one. You do have the advantage of the dedicated knobs and buttons and also not taxing your Desktop with the VST. Down side, you still have to deal with loading new waves into the hardware via a PC or such. Wish they included a sample input from a source. Could snag all sorts of stuff on the fly :) More fun!

It's $169.99 at Sweetwater, same as the NTS-1 Mk.II. These things cost more than Volcas, lol. I mean, I like them more than Volcas, but the build quality is even worse. But I guess they would be in the $200+ range if they were pre-built with better cases/buttons/knobs.

Yeah I've been using a power brick and then a DIN MIDI when I use the synth. I think there's a mod to add a proper power port to it so it's not getting the power from the USB port.

Why does the good stuff get released during times of economic duress? I will hold my breath til the price reveal but it looks interesting. The 4 effects really have to be something special. Otherwise I got my NTS-1 and I'm quite happy with that as standalone FX.

What I leave out, is that I unplugged and removed the useless "keyboard" on the NTS-1 (that I paid for, along with the KP3, before YT gear influencers really existed) so I couldn't accidently bump it trying to tweak an encoder, and playing some super loud random out of key/scale note, abruptly, in the middle of a piece of music. 🤣 @@isocarboxazid
