hey, I've gotten round to watching this a bit late but I'm a foil shop and have some tips for photographing it! It's actually just as simple as directing your studio lights upward instead of downward to create a sort of ambient lighting. Then, if you hold your camera far enough away you can get a good shot of the foil without any shadows on it. That's the main bit, and then you can go into photoshop and adjust the brightness/exposure and all that. I usually do select by colour range and bring up the brightness of the paper while separately bringing up the saturation of the foil in order to create a more true-to-life colour representation. No fancy lighting setup required. hope that helps!

Hey Alicia!! Thank you so much for the tips esp the editing part! I have my lights like this now and I'm finding it works perfectly for silver, gold & rose gold, but still struggling with holo. It's like S/G/RG need indirect light but holo needs direct light to shine!? Do you do anything special for holo?

@@Plannerface with holo you just have to go in with the understanding that you’re never going to be able to capture the iridescence of the entire sheet! What I typically do is try to find the right angle to capture SOME rainbow part of it and that makes it clear enough it’s holo-and feel free to draw attention to that part during editing. The way holo works is that you can see the iridescence during movement, so there’s no real way to get it all in a still image. But just capture a suggestion of it, let everyone know it’s holo and they’ll understand!
