  • The Manifestazione Aerea del Centenario dell’Aeronautica Militare, held at Pratica di Mare air base, was truly an airshow for the ages. Aiming to tell the entire history of the Italian Air Force, the show exclusively featured current and former types operated by the air arm, with no foreign military contributions.
    Historic highlights included a CA.3 and G.91 restored to flight especially for the occasion, and an F-104 Starfighter shipped over from the United States. Modern highlights included the Air Parade, featuring 87 aircraft of 24 distinct types, as well as solo displays by the Reparto Sperimentale Volo's Typhoon, C-27J Spartan and T-346A Master and the inimitable Frecce Tricolori.
    Other types to feature include the three P-51 Mustangs of the Horsemen, the Sabre, DC-6, Spitfire, P-38 Lightning, P-47 Thunderbolt, AMX A-11B Ghibli, A-200 Tornado, KC-767, F-35A Lightning, F-35B Lightning and more.

    With apologies to any Italian viewers for possibly butchering the pronounciation of a few Italian words! And congratulations on the anniversary, if I was from Italy, this airshow would have had me bursting with pride. Do subscribe to catch the Leszno episode, which comes out very shortly. It'll be a 90 minute film with both ground-to-air and air-to-air filming - I am extremely proud of it. Due for publication on around the 30th of June.

      As an Italian, I appreciate your highly informed and technical commentary. Compared to the "official" one aired during the airshow (I was there on Saturday), it stands out for being way ahead! Well done! By the way, your pronunciation of Italian is one of the best I ever heard from any Englishman. 👌

      I appreciate your extremely informative comment. So many things I didn't know, for example I wasn't aware that just after the war Italy got so many planes from our allies, like Spitfire, Mustang and so on. And don't worry about mispronunciation, I didn't spot any "big" mistakes.

    Awesome episode once again! I wish I was there. What was great to see was how much effort went into getting almost every type which the IAF operated in the flying display like the F-104 and the G.91 etc.
    Also of course the RSV displays are great as well. I don't know whether anyone else has thought this but I've always thought the T346A could be a good contender to replace the Hawk T1 for the Reds?
    Can't wait for RIAT!

    So they still do that crazy crossing that costed them dearly in Ramstein ? But it looks like they are way more spaced than they used to, which is probably a good thing.

    • @ThisisFlight
      @ThisisFlight  Год назад +1

      They don't do that exact manoeuvre any more. They do a simplified version of it with aircraft crossing from the left and right, but without the soloist crossing from the centre towards the crowd, thus removing the risk of an accident with a debris vector towards the spectators.

    Hi Adam, great footage (as always). One note: P-51 Miss Stress belongs to a private owner in Bremgarten, Germany. Your information belongs to "Frances Dell". Cheers

    • @ThisisFlight
      @ThisisFlight  Год назад

      Thank you!
      That's interesting, I was under the impression that it had recently become part of the Flying Legends fleet. An airshow organiser I work with, who has booked it for a show later in the year, booked both P-51s at the same time, from the same person. They also list Miss Stress as belonging to Flying Legends on their website. But you're right - double checking Flying Legends' own website this evening, I see they themselves don't mention Miss Stress anywhere.
      My guess is there's some typical warbird murkiness going on, with various companies and individuals owning or operating aircraft on each other's behalves. Somewhere along the line, the two Mustangs must be linked. I shall enquire further to make sure I get it right in future coverage!

    • @christianbramkamp6251
      @christianbramkamp6251 Год назад

      @@ThisisFlight Frances Dell belongs to Georg Raab (Flying Legends) while Miss Stress is owned by Michael Euchner (he also owns the recently crashed Griffon-Spitfire). Both are friends, so most likely they are working together for airshow commitments.

    I hope you're not pressured into creating a long documentary for all your dispatches filling it with information. I came here for the airshow and flying display, not really for a history lesson/ technical information. But still, I do believe that there are some people who are here for a history lesson.

    • @ThisisFlight
      @ThisisFlight  Год назад

      Certainly not pressured, it's just fun to make them! However, RUclips is slowly rolling out a feature that enables multiple audio tracks per video and as soon as that is enabled on this channel my intention is to have a commentary free audio track for every Airshow Dispatches film.
