Mud sales are benefit auctions held to support the many volunteer fire companies in the Lancaster County area. Many of them have heavy Amish & Mennonite participation. So they're not technically "Amish" - but definitely have a Plain character due to the many Amish fire company volunteers, and of course auction attendees.
Why are they called "mud" sales? They got that name due to the condition of farmer's fields in the late winter/spring (when the bulk of them are held). You can read more, and find a list of this year's Mud Sales, here (there are still about 10 more to go): amishamerica.com/lancaster-county-amish-mud-sales/

It's the tail end of the spring mud sales in the Lancaster area. I know the one closest to me is one of the early ones and hundreds of people of all backgrounds comes out. It's in Airville, PA.

What is an Amish mud sale? Crafts, Antiques, or food? I'm totally ignorant to this.

Good question :) check the comment I pinned at top for an explanation. As to your second question, they sell all sorts of things - if you pause the vid at the start, you can see the auction bill from this sale listing all the different items 👍

My local mud sale has quilts, groceries, farm, equipment, indoor and outdoor furniture, sheds, greenhouses , potted plants and trees, as well as chickens, ducks and rabbits. This year they even had beef calves. Last year my Amish neighbors bought a refrigerator trailer that runs on diesel.

Thank you for the reply, they are fine auctioneers in this video aa well as great citizens. We are blessed to have Amish in s.w. Indiana and western Kentucky. Now I know about their auctions. 😊

That's tiny. The ones in Lancaster County, PA are this on steroids! It's usually Mennonite auctioneers.

The Amish seem like they're a nice people to be around! I'd almost prefer to live around them than mainstream society.
    Key word almost.

I couldn't keep up at an auction because I don't hear fast enough 😅 I did notice this one was in English, so they must count on support from the English customers as well.

I’m sure if you’re doing personal business, they’d consider it on an individual basis but these auctions are normally backed by a larger auctioneer company that likely has policy and regulations set for everyone in a general sense. My husband’s a coin and gold collector, Amish are super smart financially, if it makes dollars..it makes sense to most!
