I absolutely adore this man. Grew up listening to Everclear since i was a child. His life had been so sad, and now he has MS 😞. Hang in there Art 💖

I just met him this weekend in portland and I was worried because I heard he was mean. He came down and shook my hand then asked if I wanted to take a picture. He was one of the nicest celebrities Ive ever met. Portland has this image of him and its just bullshit. They act like he owes the music scene here something and he doesn't. He's been through a lot and honestly I had the up most respect for the guy.

      Really?
I’ve met him twice, 20 years apart and seen him solo and with Everclear several times.
He’s one of the most down to earth, people/celebrity I am aware of.
      Just an everyday dude.
But I also know he doesn’t take any bullshit, he’s just that kind of person. Reminds me a lot of my dad.
He talks about working on himself and his emotions and that’s normal, we all have things to work on and make better as life goes on. And learn from our mistakes.

Art, thank you for sharing something so personal, painful, so glad that you have found peace with being a dad, I have over 25 years of sobriety, I would not trade that for anything, being with my kids is the greatest feeling in the world, again thanks for sharing your music and your life

I dont think Art is a racist. There were probably periods of his youth when he was, most white kids who live in the hood go through that for a while in their teens. But as an adult it's easier to see the big picture.

I only just discovered Everclear this year. Out of the clear blue I had the urge to sing along with one of their hits (Santa Monica), which I did 3 or 4 times in a row that night, and then dived in. I bought 4 of their CDs, but love Sparkle and Fade so much that I haven't gotten to the other 3 yet (did a quick run through of BITNB, and I swear that last song Safe, so communicates to me that it feels as though it was written for me). I completely hear and feel this songwriter's genius. Very few are capable of joining lyric and melody to create a spiritual experience, but it seems to come naturally to AA. Suffering can bring shining. AA is a great creator, light shining in his music. So thankful to have music that so moves me! Out of pain, he makes gifts of understanding and growth. An exceptionally insightful lyricist. Wow. Heroin Girl. Amazing the insight in that piece. And it's punk rock!! I nursed myself into adulthood on punk rock. So the feel of the music feels like home to me.
A fabulous spirit he is. Who made a record that I like every song of, which has happened very few times in my life. God bless him and his family. This video is so lovely. So beautiful! I'm watching it today, 3 days after the presidential election of 2016. I'm focusing my thoughts on these positive and vulnerable thoughts expressed by a brave soul, serving humanity by his example and through his insight.
By seeing the light shining in another, the light shines in me. I like this. One of many ways light finds its way to dark places.

That song makes me cry since my husband died while our children were young. It's strange how some children turn out fine in spite of that and a parent with MS.

I'm 31, my pops passed when I was 9 from a kayaking accident. I don't hold some of the more harsh tones of this song against him. However the feeling of being abandoned, even by no fault of his own, still upsets me. Which is why I can halfway relate to this song. I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. I'm sure you are great mother, who will give them a chance to succeed even through the obstacles. Take care

im 19 almost 20 now an i grew up with domestic abuse going on and my parents divorced when i was 9/10 and my dad didnt see me for 5 or 6 years and when my mom died in 2011 and he mentally, physically, and emotionally when i went to live with him just like when i was a kid. he kicked me out in 2013 since my SSI checks werent going to come to him and i havent spoken to him in 2 years. i was in a relationship with a girl with 2 beautiful kids, the girl was 3 n the boy was 6 months old at the time and in that short time i bonded with the baby boy and before hand i thought id be like my father and stuff but after taking care of the little dude for a while i realized. damn id actually be a hell of a dad. i was able to take care n help raise children that werent mine, i didnt have to but wanted to. in a way i became their father figure and i realized that im not like my dad and because the hell ive been through i decided at 9/10 to not be like him not matter what it takes. when i discovered Everclear and listened to their music. ( wonderful, father of mine ect.) i intimately connected with those songs because i felt that Art was singing all the things that had happened to both of us and to many others. so i guess people who grow up without a mom or a dad can turn out to be the parents they never had growing n the parents their own children deserve. Thanks Art!

Father of Mine is the story of my life. Daddy gave me a name, and then he walked away. Like Art Alexakis, I'm Greek as well. Our last names our both Cretan. Greek names that end with kis are from the island Crete.

His oldest daughter, Annabelle, is actually 22. Yeah she was born during the World of Noise days. I always thought Pale Green Stars was about her and the divorce from her mom, which it very well may be.
