I recall my dad telling me that back in the sixty his father made hay early one year was so pleased he had all his winter feed sorted by mid june, but ended up starting to feed it back to them in july by autumn he sent two cows to market and bought a 8.5 acre fieild. basicly because he had no feed.

(CLOUT Being old english for winter clothing) meaning don't throw your winter clothing out till winter is out, may being the the last month of winter. also hawhorn used to be called may, so when the flower is out it gets warmer, so never cast a clout till may is out..

The old proverb about "cast not a clout" refers to the May Flower, the hawthorn blossom, not the month.

Perhaps another project to add to the list, would a bore hole for water, if you have a chance of water, and then you would be able to water in droughts for the Maise and grass the weather is changing

Sweet chestnut have a disease and have had for a few years I live up on the Surrey hants border and our trees look awful . I did comment this when you were thinking of replacing the ash your losing with chestnut to save you the heart ache . It’s so sad to see we’re gradually losing all our trees .

I reckon give it 2 weeks and we'll all have plenty of rain. The weather seems to be in cycles of long periods of dry followed by long periods of wet. Its dry too early for it to stay at it.

I sort of know your pain of no rain, not had a proper rain in the Western Isles Scotland for almost 3 months. But I only grow 80 to 90% of my veg and potatoes for the year. With any luck you'll get rain to keep everything green and the cows fed

Here in Ireland we haven’t had rain for close on a month either but I have continued to spread about 50kgs an acre after grazing because in early mornings we have heavy dews and grass is growing a little but if you stop spreading it takes forever for growth to start when you do start spreading , also in that heavy meadow of grass that you are grazing try mowing a strip and let the cows in to graze after , it’s called pre mowing and works well

Congrats on your fertilizer spreader. No one has fun like the funky farmer. Hey you don't have an old sickle bar mower around there someplace do you? Sometimes you can run around over a pasture and clip it off and they'll eat what they wouldn't standing.

Yep the weather is pretty dry and is going to be for some time by the look of it .typically all of the maze is in and not rain … iwould be interested to see what farmer p says about that tree ive not seen that before might be worth cutting the dead branches off to stop any further spread?

You can't win , one minute your ground has so much rain water that it floods badly .
Then no rain grass isnt growing as it should , p 😢😢😢 .pity you cant have like a resovior to keep for situations like you have now to pump water on the ground using a tanker .
The weather is all about this past few years , and here in the UK it doesnt store the water from floods etc
