I had a few of thse water troughs and I left them and put in big the big troughs asweel and in spring I was able to back fence wires in spring and I d have water in different different parts of the field.just a thought.
I would totally agree with this idea! If your determined to take out the old troughs don't smash them up if they are sound but take them home so cows can drink comfortably when they leave the parlour and lots of water sources means less bullying amongst the cattle. Just remember that in the right circumstances eg milking well , sustained hot, dry weather a holstein will drink in excess of 40 gallons per 24 hrs! Also when you have this hot dry weather cows are lazy and will not walk far for a drink and one wonders why troughs are frequently only available at the field gate area. Supply water pipe diameter is frequently inadequate for a high flow rate on cattle farms and coupled with small capacity troughs these cause unseen problems simply because so many more animals are trying to drink from access points that the system was designed to supply. One last point which fields do your young stock graze? If you are planning for larger field troughs just make sure the sides of the tanks are not too high and / or the water level, once full, too low for them to be able to drink comfortably. (Larger tanks are often taller, to create the bigger capacity, than the ones you plan to remove).
If it was me I would buy two more troughs, don’t share between fields, each field gets its own and more them further down the field. Leave the old concrete one it looks sturdy
It is good to get new equipment and machinery when needed.
Hi I like your video
Cut under the wire in September with hedge cutter and grazon Pro in May no strumming required I have done this for years
Best of luck with your new kit Tom, the Rakeman will pay for itself in no time 💪
Cheers Adrian
I have murphy top fill troughs and spillane bottom fill. Both 150g.
Spillane are 85euro less.
I like the bottom fill, touch wood no issues
Good on you Tom,best of luck with the investments 👍
Could you put a curtain around the rakeman as its not that wide?

Thanks 7.5 cube
Why not spray grazon pro under wires with quad and sprayer
Nice video as always
Would you not leave those troughs and add the new ones in another spot. You’d have two sources of water in the fields so spreading the cows out.

If you run a 30 or 40 ml blue pipe from the pump and the fast fill ball cock, that tank will keep 70 cows going no problem Tom.
Will look into it thanks
