Those two machines are as different as night and day. The GHT Pillar Drill is a true Sensitive drilling machine designed for hi-speed drilling with really small drills, as you can feel the drill cutting and prevent breakage. The drilling machine is more like a small drill press for hogging out holes. That rachet spindle has no sensitivity at all. I would keep them both for their intended purposes. My two shillings worth...
Hello Pat, I was using the GHT one today and it was working really well even with its faults... You are correct that the RE one is not a true Sensitive Drill Machine. Many thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Take care. Paul,,
I find it amazing how these old tools still work so well after all these years. The build quality was a different class back then. Makes me wonder if todays machinery will still be around in 50+ years time.
Hello Johnny, It is surprising to me too... I think we live in a disposable world now so not much is made to last. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Tony, Thank you... I have go the information a bit wrong as the new one is not a true sensitive drilling machine... thanks for Pat in the comments for pointing that out. Nevertheless I a pleased to have the RE machine. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
What a beautiful pair of machines. You really do have some magnificent kit. Whenever I see machines like these, it makes me want to get my Drummond Model B lathe Resto project on the go. Thanks for a great film.
Hello Carl, Thank you... I think the older machines are quite stylish generally, not always to good functionally if they are worn out. I look forward to seeing your Drummond project sometime in the future. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Kevin, Thank you. I will show the drill in action on the clock project... I am looking forward to getting started. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Wow Paul.such a lovely addition to your ever growing collection of fabulous vintage equipment. As others have said I hope you are inclined to keep both drilling machines. 👏👏👍😀
Hello Andrew, Thank you... Yes both will stay now, I have the material for the pulley for it, I just need to find a motor. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Steve, I am very pleased with the new drill... I did get some information wrong in this video so will make a correction one in the future. Many thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Dan, It has been a bit warmer in the workshop this last week, thank goodness... I really love these little machines myself, I am very pleased with the new one and have now found some cast iron to make the pulley wheel. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

Hello Dave, I am always on the lookout for the smaller machines... I will thin some of them down once I've had my hip done. it's getting a bit busy in the workshop now. Take care. Paul,,
Hi Paul, they both look nice machines to have, reading the comments I think your going to keep them both!! be interesting to see the pulley being made. Hope you don't have too long to wait for your op All the best and good luck from Spain!!
Hello David, Yes I did get things a bit wrong on this video for sure... After my operation I will make another short one putting things right. I have now got some material to make the pulley and have also come up with a plan so that both machines can share the same motor. The operation is now scheduled for the end of April so not long now. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Del, I think if you can find the old stuff in reasonable condition it is the best option, well for me anyway. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hi Paul. I think it's not possible to have too many drill presses, or for that matter, too many shop tools. As long as you can still navigate to the door, there's room for more old iron. Hope your shop floor beams are stout !
Hello Rich, Once my hip is fixed and am going to let some machines go... I have rearrange the workshop a bit and am quite happy where things are now. Thanks for watching and all your support. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Paul, I would be careful about straightening the handle in the RE drill press as it looks as though it would take it too close to the pulley. Best wishes, George
Hello George, I was wondering if I just unscrewed it slightly if the alignment would be okay. I will try and if it works then Loctite it in position. I will ensure it misses the pulley, thanks for being that to my attention. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,
Hello Nigel, Thanks for letting me know my error... I have got quite a few things wrong in this video so will make a correction one. I will make sure everyone knows who kindly gave me the correct information. Thanks for watching. Take care. Paul,,

What a great title! Is it a sensitive upgrade or an upgrade to a sensitive drilling machine? If the latter just try not to hurt its feelings.
