:D Even early on (before my audio would sync with my video and I decided to leave out the sound) I wanted to add humor to my videos. I have a fun personality. I used to be a theater student in college. Having my own RUclips channel allows me to cut loose and be goofy like that. Sometimes I think, "Oh, Tim, leave out all the silliness. People just want to see the origami." But, I think that's what makes my channel different. It's entertaining even if you aren't going to fold the model. *Bazinga!*
Thank you, Nathan Buis! As a matter of fact, I'm just about to film my next origami video tutorial for part two of my Modular Rhombicosidodecahedron. I hope you like it and videos I make in the future just as much :)
Hi, Christina! I'm glad my vid makes you feel that way. The only thing I can compare ASMR to is guided meditation. Like focusing on a candle flame in a dark quiet room until your state of mind changes. Anyway, I'm glad you like and please do continue to enjoy.
I'm really glad you found this video useful, Alex! My goal is to bring you original quality origami videos every week. Please help me reach more people by liking and sharing my videos.
Good suggestion, firtha06. Box pleating is a logical place to start for beginning origami designers. Stay tuned next week and you will learn more about box pleating when I show you how to fold my model Flying Squirrel.
what can i say, you are good at origami. you are probably one of the best at origami. keep folding papers as long as you want. and i will remember you. keep making good work.
I'm sorry, julio. What part don't you get? I'd like to see if I can help you. If you find my official Facebook page (link in the video description) you can message me directly.
Double layers. In this example, the roots and trunk are double layered and the top and bottom set of branches are single layered. At the end, you can see a tree that looks "fuller" in the middle. In that example, the roots are single layered and each set of branches is double layered. This tutorial is about a means to make multi branched trees but not really about a specific model. Of course, I had to choose one arrangement to show the technique. Fold it any way you like :) Thanks, Anthony Tran!
Great question, WiredSnail01. Yes, Winter Tree is my design. I came up with the technique without looking at anyone else's instructions. Afterwards, I did find other similar models. spliffonaut has a video for a very similar model called Tree Of Death but does not credit any designer. Under copyrite laws for origami I can claim this as my design. If anyone thinks I am infringing on their copyrite I'm happy to discuss it. Thanks for the question and the complement :D
Obrigado pelas suas palavras gentis. Eu não percebi que eu era um grande nome no origami. O que te faz dizer isso? (Thank you for your kind words. I did not realize I was a big name in origami. What makes you say so?)
Isso significa muito para mim que você percebe. Eu adoro origami e eu quero contribuir para a teoria do design. Eu acredito que as grades grandes da caixa do número têm mais segredos a descobrir. (It means a lot to me that you notice. I love origami and I want to contribute to design theory. I believe high number box grids have more secrets to discover.)
Thank you. This was one of my first videos. I have tried to get even better since then. The skill level of my audience is so varied, sometimes it is difficult to know exactly how much information I need to give to be clear. I'm glad you like the video.
Please if poossible Tim in the Months and Years ahead make some Origami Video Tutorials about how Origami Models are made using Box-pleating. This would be much and Greatly Appreciated. :)
your work is amazing! its a wonder I'm only finding your channel now. I haven't watched the whole video yet but do you mention anywhere what size paper and type of paper is best for this?
The trees at the end of the video? Yeah. I used box pleating to create them all. The arrangement of flaps is different in each though. The tall one is from a larger piece of paper with a wide river separating the branches and roots. The more full tree has, I believe, three rows of branches but they are shorter and all about the same length.
Sorry. I won't be making a video on origami corals but if you modify the tree design in this video you could design your own. Look up circle/river origami patterns and try to design your own model. Try it. I bet you'll have a lot of fun! Best luck.
Wow I’m doing this thing where I make a whole bunch of Origami animals in a tree, I saw this tree and thought that would be PERFECT...😐then I fast forward to see how difficult it was😫 ahhhhhh why did I pick this treeeeee
Sorry to bothering, but I do not have patience to read the whole description, and I would like to ask, is it your own design? Anyway, it's really pretty, and thanks for the tutor :)
Is there anywhere to find the crease sheet and if you have instagram follow my origami its @folded_trees im going to try make this and use it as my new pic
No, I don't have a crease pattern drawn, besides what is seen in the video. I may draw one someday when I am not working on so many other projects. You could probably draw your own by folding the model, unfolding it, and studying the creases. I don't have an Instagram but it sounds like you're having fun with it. I wish you luck.
You're welcome. I think it's very important to respond to comments and I'm super appreciative when anyone wants to ask questions about my art. To answer your question. I have a four year old and a very demanding job. As far as origami, I try as hard as I possibly can to 1. Have my art in some kind of exhibit at least once a year 2. Go to and participate in one origami convention at least every two years 3. Produce one origami video of an original design every six months. While I've proudly been able to keep up with the first two, my video tutorials have suffered. I promise, I intend to create new videos. I swore to my fans the next video I produce will be a full tutorial on my Jabberwock model, which has proven to be an extremely difficult task for me when balanced with my every day life. I will eventually accomplish this goal and I believe there will be many more video tutorials of mine to follow. I really appreciate my fans. Stay subscribed. I will make more tutorials. It's just been difficult to maintain my schedule but I believe I will be back at it again in the future. Thanks for your questions.
@@RickmanOrigami By "full tutorial do you mean a long one like Ridley 3.0 and Smaug 2.1? Or like Dungeon Dragon and Ridley, in a series? I think you are a very talented origamist. I don't think I could have been able to figure out Jeremy Shafer's Hangman. Bye!
No, Olivia Liau. That was only a joke. My Venus Flytrap model is 64 x 64 but the Tree is only 32 by 32. You could apply the same concept to a 64 x 64 grid, or a 100 x 100 grid for that matter, but then too much paper gets bunched up in the pleats and you wouldn't be able to shape the branches.
Thanks for your suggestion, alex. At this time, I'm not doing covers of any other origami artist's models. I have, however, recently designed my own origami dragon. Pictures are on my Facebook page and I plan to have a tutorial up soon.
Yes, folding this model from a 13cm square definately makes it more diffucult. Have you done that, imakuniaw? If you want to try something else fun, fold it with a 12in square of 20lb paper and wet fold it, using string to wrap the branches as it dries. The result is very nice looking.
Sorry, no. I have my own art to work on and promote. If you want to learn about how to fold a Ryujin ask around on some of the origami sites and forums. If you are polite and not pushy eventually you will find people who have experience with that model who are willing to help you. Any version of Ryujin is difficult and it will take a lot of work on your part but you can do it. Or you could always fold some of my models. :)
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡when you put 64 x 64 I believed it then paused the video and folder a piece of paper into. 64 x 64 grid. Now I have wasted a hour more than I should have😡😡😡😡
Never trust an origamist. We try to get people think little pieces of paper are gazelles and dragons! Really though, thanks for having a good sense of humor about it. If it makes you feel better, I don't make jokes like this in my videos anymore to eliminate confusion. Thankfully, you can still fold the model from a 64 x 64 grid! :)
I'm not sure what you mean. I made this video way before RUclips made rules about 10 minute videos. At the time, it seemed like a manageable amount of time for an origami.
Haha, yeah, Winter Tree is only 32 x 32 box grid. I'm happy I made that joke. It gets a lot of people. The model I'm working on designing now, however, is going to end up being between 68 and 80 box grid!

What happens at 5:44?
Allong a crease 14 spaces down from the top raw edge of the 32 by 32 box grid, pre-crease a set of diagonals as shown drawn on the paper in the video.

Good job Tim! But one suggestion, You should wet-fold this model. ;)

dude!!!! you are awesome!!!!
tnx for the video!!!
I tried this with Koreon Hanji paper.... didn't work, too springy and the final bends did not hold. will try again with foil.
Hi!! Nice work. What are the measures of the paper?
Haha, I like to put jokes in my videos. My Flytrap model IS 64x64. Have you seen that on, Miguel?

Simplemente hermoso
Gracias! Eres muy amable.
where the dimensions of paper?
I used a 7.5 by 7.5 inch square cut from 20 lb printer paper for this tutorial. It is based on a 32 x 32 box grid.
Could you make a redo with talking?
Hmm, I might do that someday. But it probably won't be for a while. Thank you for the suggestion.
