  • There's always a first for everything. I still can't believe we hiked the tallest mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji! This was definitely a one in a lifetime experience and I'm glad we got to do it this year, before Japan reopens to tourism. We went opening weekend of the season, the first weekend of July. What really made it amazing was all of the friends we met along the way. You guys know who you are! Making it to the summit was already an accomplishment, surviving the super cold sunrise view and then making it back to 5th station was another feat of it's own. Thank you for watching our journey and following along while we experience everything from joy to pain.
    Tips:
    1. Pack light. I cannot stress this enough. Whatever you pack is going to be with you the whole time, even trash. Everything must be packed out.
    2. Bring lots of warm clothes and winter gear for the summit. Hiking was really hot, but once you hit the summit and wait for the sunrise, you will feel it to the bone! Start layering before you get settled in.
    3. There is no running water at the mountain huts. Bring sanitizer and wipes.
    4. There are many trails to hike on Fuji, we did the Yoshida trail from 5th station. Make sure to give yourself some time to adjust to the altitude before you start the ascent.
    5. Bring 100 yen coins or small cash to pay for toilets or the stamps at each station.
    Packing List:
    - Sunglasses
    - First aid
    - Bug spray
    - Kairo hand warmers
    - Neck warmer
    - Hiking Shoes
    - Undershirt
    - Shirts x2
    - Socks
    - Down Jacket
    - Sweater
    - Gloves
    - Leggings
    - Walking poles
    - Hiking spats
    - Hand Towel
    -Trash bags
    - Power bank
    - Head lamp
    Snacks
    - Water
    - Chocolate
    - Ion water
    - Nuts
    - Protein bars
*If you don't want to pack too much water and make your backpack heavy, you can buy it at each station, but it'll be expensive.
Feel free to comment down below if you have any questions or concerns. Best of luck!!

Love how every video has a similar pace: motivated at the start, getting a bit overwhelmed when reaching 7th station, completly euphoric during the sunrise and completly devastated during the descend. Seems to be a common theme - so I guess I am prepared for it now. Thanks for the video!

I just did this today and it felt like we were inside of a small hurricane the entire way up. I have never thought I would turn around on a climb, but this one was a dick kicker and had me questioning every life decision I have ever made to get me to this point. We did it all in one go and stopped for maybe 2 minutes at each stop. Then ran down because we were going numb in our hands and faces. Cheers to you both for crushing this hike

Thank you very much for this vlog! It is very informative and enjoyable to watch!
This vlog helped me to decide if I should go on a hike or just enjoy it from afar, and it's the later on.
I thought mt.Fuji is like some Alps in Switzerland, where we could ride on a gondola/train up to the hut or near the hut (which in most cases aren't huts but a proper hotel), and since I plan on traveling with my mom, I think this track is way too hard for her (to be honest maybe it's hard for me too).

    • @ChristineWithJoy
      @ChristineWithJoy  Год назад +1

It is possible to do it in a day without staying in a hut! Some hikers do that! It depends if it's crowded or not and your own pace with breaks. You don't want to go too fast because of altitude sickness. It's cold around 8th station if you're hiking at midnight like us, but the movement keeps you warm. We didn't start applying layers until we stopped moving at the summit to wait for the sunrise. Best of luck to you!

      @ChristineWithJoy  Год назад +1

All of that really depends on which trail you take, how crowded it is, and how experienced you are. For us, to reach the summit it took about 6-7 hours from 5th station. Going down can take 4-5 hours. It's possible to do it all in one day, but many people like to stay the night for the experience and to get adjusted to the altitude.

My Goal is to stay in Fujikawaguchiko and take a Taxi to mt. fuji 5th station yoshida trail so I can get there at dawn to start the trek in the early (Sunrise) AM.
