Why Tech is Actually ALIVE - The Bad Batch Season 2

  • in the bad batch finale, tech fell to this death after sacrificing himself for his brothers and omega. Mentioning plan 99, Plan 99 is in reference to clone 99 from the clone wars. Clone 99 was a defective so called clone trooper with physical abnormalities compared to his brothers. He worked as a maintenance worker at the clone trooper barracks on Kamino. Despite his physical limitations, he was fiercely loyal to the clone troopers and often helped them in any way he could.
Clone 99 died in the episode "The Clone Wars: Season 3, Episode 1 - Clone Cadets" while defending the clone cadets from an attack by Separatist commando droids. He sacrificed his life to help the cadets escape and transmit a distress signal, warning the Republic of the impending attack. Clone 99's bravery and sacrifice inspired the clone cadets to fight harder and succeed in their mission.
So plan 99 here as Tech says, is him sacrificing himself for his team. Wrecker tells him not to do it, and tech questions when have they ever followed orders, shooting the wire and falling to his doom along with the tram pulling the others down.
As the tram gets back on its tracks, they go speeding into the building and out the other end as Tech falls into the clouds with the rest of the tram cart. Now, here’s why I don’t think Tech is dead. There are actually many reasons supporting his survival. First off, his mutation was intelligence, meaning if anyone could calculate a way out of that situation, it’s him. The second was, he had thrusters on his back pack, meaning even if they didn’t act as a full on jet pack like jango or baba fett’s, he would have been able to slow his descent before hitting the ground and safely land. The third theory is that he fell into water, which would have a better chance of survival with his armor than if he landed on ground. The final theory is that Hemlock was using the clones for his experiments, and the bad batch were the more unique and special clones of all given their mutations and powers, he would have done everything he could to make sure he collected tech before he hit the ground, or to revive him and heal him back to health so he can run tests on him. I think in the third season, we could see the empire running tests and experiments on Tech, and this would likely be used as some sort of major mid season cliff hanger or something, as we all thought he’s dead.
The fifth and final theory that tech is alive, is that Rex went to save him, somehow Rex went to iriadu just after the bad batch got out, and ended up finding Tech and saving him, only to show up later with him in season 3 to save the day.
The main theory I cling on to here is that Hemlock recovered Tech’s glasses, meaning he probably found the body and took him to the lab. I think he had a ship ready to catch him because of how valuable tech is as an asset.

Bro if that happens I’m not gonna be able to take death in the Star Wars seriously anymore. They honestly need to let deaths be final.
Maul used the Dark Side to stay alive.
Echo got seriously messed up at the Citadel and when they rescued him it was touch and go until they got him to a republic medic both of these are reasonable if unlikely
Tech having thrusters we’ve NEVER seen him use (and which he didn’t use to avoid falling to begin with) or having a random imperial v wing pilot be skilled/caring enough to literally catch Tech as he falls seems so ridiculous it’s silly lol
Also the Dr was present when Tarkin gave the command to shoot down the tram and he did not raise protest so I doubt he even knew it was 99 until after the fact. By which tech would long be dead.
TLDR It would be extremely lazy writing to erase the impact of his death because “jet packs lol”

The thing about Echo is that that is actually possible to survive with that armor on. It would leave him in critical condition but not dead, and the separatists fixed him up so they could use him. You however, cannot survive a fall from that height with whatever armor you had on. And about the glasses, they probably could have fell of during his fall. Plus if Hemlock wanted to clone Tech, he would get that blood for DNA to actually clone him.

Before watching this video I am putting my own theory about his fate. Tech fell, but managed to find a way to the ground alive, albeit getting a bit beat up on the way down. He was wearing his goggles under his helmet and all the Imperials found were the goggles. My guess is he got injured on the way down, broke his goggles in the process, took them off when he was safely on the ground and discarded them. This is why no other part of him or his armor was located. We’ll see him next season.

    • @onyxmadison321

That is a good theory! They did say all they found were his broken glasses in the finale. It would make sense he would discard them if he survived the fall as the broken lenses would’ve cause a risk of eye damage 🤔 I didn’t think of that but I too believe tech survived as this is a similar scenario like with echo. All it showed in tact was his charred helmet and we all thought he was dead. Tech fell from a high height and all that was found was his glasses. No body/ body parts, no armor whatsoever. I’m hoping he survived but will accept whatever outcome comes our way in season 3

I think he’s going to possibly be used as a test subject for a phase 0 dark trooper. If Tech did survive that fall (which is possible since Hunter survived the fall in s1) he would likely be gravely injured and on the brink of death. Hemlock probably saw this as an opportunity, so he saved him to be used/can make modifications to him like Echo due to his injuries. Also! I think he used Tech’s goggles as a means to get into the bad batch’s head so he can get to Omega, *and* this allows him to work on Tech without having any disruptions since the team thinks he’s dead. I really hope they go this route because it allows for a lot more development with Tech’s character which we have been getting this season. I’ve seen so many people say his death will mean nothing/undermine his sacrifice, but I honestly disagree. I mean them bringing Maul back was such a good choice because look at everything he’s done in TCW; his character made it far more interesting. Don’t get me wrong though, bringing back dead characters back and forth can get boring, but I don’t think this time it will; at least for me which is why it’s my opinion (and I respect everyone’s so please don’t take it personally if you disagree). It’s just that, Tech had all that sudden development to just be killed off that fast and ambiguously, and *then* the literal antagonist *gave* them the “evidence” that he’s *really* gone? I don’t trust that, that to me is suspicious of Hemlock’s character (which is why he’s a good villain). But yes, I agree with you, StarWarsTheory. I, too, think he’s alive.

"they survived, so I'm sure Tech figured out a way to survive the fall!" But this doesn't take away the raw emotion I felt during his death. That emotion is what's keeping me engaged to see when he will come back. And Omega, Wrecker, Hunter, and Echo survived their fall. (But with many injuries and they could have fallen in a less life threatening way) that was my first thought after they fell. "they survived, so I'm sure Tech figured out a way to survive the fall!" But this doesn't take away the raw emotion I felt during his death. That emotion is what's keeping me engaged to see when he will come back. If I knew that his death was set in stone, I would not have given it anymore thought because I would stop watching it right then and there. I have already told myself that if they do not bring him back in season 3, I will most likely refuse to watch it any further...

If he isn't dead, I do hope they wait a bit before bringing him back. The whole thing with Chewie in the sequels comes to mind, absolutely wasting the emotional impact of losing a central character by turning right around and immediately bringing them back. I was glad Omega had to lose Echo and that he stayed away for a while. Good choice in my opinion.

The team already knew that Sid was liability and she would most likely sell them out to the Empire, but they used that to their advantage so they could be captured and find out where they were taking clones and possibly where crosshair is to save them. Tech is “dead” to the empire so he can work behind the scenes with Rex to find out exactly where the team is and attempt to infiltrate the facility where they are testing on clones.
