    The camera sometimes follows the teacher instead of looking at what he is doing and dosen't zoom in on the work enough, and misses a step.

    The time change Sunday was more of a strain on me than hand packing doing this same change out on my 48 survivor this morning. Nice job explaining.

    Is there a specific way to remove the inner race if it stuck? I am having a lot of trouble trying to get it off(57 Chevy 3100)

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  2 года назад

      You can try heating it with a torch or you can cut it off. If you cut it be really careful not to damage the spindle.

    It's much easier to install new races if you put your new ones in the freezer over night.

      Also you can leave the hub out in the Sun or in an oven.

      Using the old race to install the new race is good but you should grind the outside slightly smaller or they will get stuck.

    I started this upgrade while swapping to disc brakes in my 53 chevy. Everything went great for the passenger side. Started the drivers side and the inner bearing (larger of the 2) won't go all the way onto the spindle. It fits into the hub just fine, but when I go to put the entire assembly onto the spindle it stops about an inch from where it should. The bearing got really stuck on there too, it took me quite a while to get it off. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

      Some photos would help. Can you contact our office, they'll give you a number to text photos to and one of the techs will help sort it out. Did you buy the bearing set from us? If so, they'll be able to look up what we sent you too which can be helpful.

      Remove the break drums. If the drum won’t come off draw in the shoes by turning the adjustment star.

    Greetings. Does anyone know if the bearings for my 1948 chevy 1 ton, 8 lug, are the same size as the the 3100 1/2 ton, 6 lug version? My front bearing is making the classic sounds of wanting upgraded and this is the first time doing "huck brakes". My 5 window gets so much attention and everyone loves the "rusty look"! Ha ha!
    Take care!

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  3 года назад +1

      They are not the same. You could probably put together a set from available bearings and the proper measuring devices, but a buy and install kit is not available.

  • @garyhelms1889

    ONE question- After you installed the front and rear race, bearings and seal you proceeded to put the hub back on the spindle,
    but what exactly holds that round plate (about 3 inches in diameter on the spindle) in place after assembled. It that was left in place the whole video.
    It seems it would be loose and rub the brake plate or the hub when the wheel is spinning.
    Good video overall and THANKS for the videos. I just purchased a 54 chevy truck and already have placed an order with Brothers truck parts.

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  3 года назад +1

      That is kind of a "dust cover" and it's spot welded to the backing plate.

    • @garyhelms1889
      @garyhelms1889 3 года назад

      @@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV if you watch the video from time 5:13 to about 5:40 you'll see David cleaning the spindle. That plate is flopping around. Possibly the spot weld broke and he just didn't notice or for sake of the video just kept moving. But it appears that plate would be rubbing once assembled. I'm not a mecahnic, so every detail is something I cling too. I'm learning!!!!!

    • @garyhelms1889
      @garyhelms1889 3 года назад

      @@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Side note to other comment. I don't even have that plate on my brake back plate. I am currently working on my brakes. My pad liner fell off the brake shoe while driving the truck home from actually buying the truck. Pad chewed up the inside of the drum of course.

    • @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
      @BROTHERSTruckPartsTV  3 года назад +2

      @@garyhelms1889 Ok, we see what you're talking about, still it's just a dust cover. If yours is missing it's not a big deal, just assemble it without.

      @@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV No,,,,,that coveris not welded to the backing plate, nor is it supposed to be. I have the same question and am currently waiting on a response from Brothers as to whether or not to use it at all.

    Hi David . I’m about to do a disc brake conversion with the Brothers Deluxe conversion kit and I also purchased the inner and outer ball bearing upgrade. I’m having a problem removing what seem to be the bearing . What do you suggest I’ve tried everything and it seems to be stuck on the wheel itself. I’d like to send a photo but don’t see where I can attach it.
