    Today we are going to look at the newest member of Nikon's D7xxx series - the D7500 and try to determine what it brings to the table and who might be the target audience for this camera.
    Less than two years ago we looked at Nikon's previous most advanced member of the D7xxx series - the D7200 and how it compared to the D7100. On this review, we shall look at the D7500 vs. the D7200 as well as try to understand the camera's true place in Nikon's lineup.

    I have owned my Nikon D7500 for exactly one day only and I love it. Yeah probably when you break it all down the D500 is a slightly better camera in a few different ways but at the end of the day picture quality cranks for me and I’m getting the same picture quality out of this camera as I would be 500 because the processor is the same and the sensor is the same and I will be using the same lenses. However find this camera I saved $750 over the D 500 and that’s a lot of coin. I have read so many people Winge about the lack of dual card slot. If we go back for five years most cameras only had one slot and no one really ever had a problem. If I’m gonna go out to someone’s wedding or something professional I would probably have a second body with me anyway as opposed to relying on the card failing or not failing. It’s more likely that something is in the camera might fail I supposed to the card and that’s where a second body would be more than useful. 128 gig card is gonna carry a lot of photos and video. Quite simply you can carry a second 128 gig card in your camera bag if you are gonna go through all of that in one shoot. As well as a spare battery if you need.
    The money I saved on the D7500 will allow me to buy other bits and pieces camera. And lots of people complain about the SnapBridge app but I found it really simple to connect and pretty straightforward. In fact I had to nick on cameras and to switch between the two using SnapBridge is actually quite simple. I would say one thing though it’s probably a lot easier to use an iPad or a tablet as opposed to a smart phone which will fill up really quickly. The image quality is simply outstanding on this camera and I love you to the cows come home it will do still photography as well as the D500 as it simply is the same sensor and same processor. I’m not going to bad today D500 at all as it is a great camera also but the amount of paper in the stain for the D7500 unwarranted we really analyse the facts. As jarred says the guts of these two cameras is the same.
    Okay so the D500 10 frames for second as opposed to 8 but really what sporting events or photography is really tell you lies that two frames for second difference. For the majority of us he’s taking photos that really is not going to make a huge difference and again I think so many people are just looking at the fault of the D7500 instead of embracing what it is which is a really beast of a camera for 1300 bucks or thereabouts.
    Remember the D500 is $750-$800 more expensive. To me it is not one third better camera than that is the D500.
    And honestly the 24 megapixels down to 21 or 20.9 Is not a factor I have seen the raw images from my Nikon D3 400 which is 24 megapixels compared To this camera and I cannot pick the difference. If you are doing a 30” x 15” canvas sure we might see some pixelation in massive size prints that who does this type of prints.
    The video is very similar in both these cameras it’s really good again I point to the fact that this camera is almost $800 cheaper. You cannot buy a product that is $800 cheaper and expect to get the same specs as the D500. And while most people do not see the benefit of a pop-up flash I do and it is useful in certain circumstances. So if you owned a D 500 and you needed to buy a flash that’s another hundred bucks also on top. I understand the love for the D7500 people need to stop criticising the D7500 because they love the D500 that’s simply stupid.
    I also see one major benefit to the D7500 that the D500 does not have and that’s the proximity sensor where the monitor turns off when your eye comes up to the viewfinder. That is brilliant and it’s really really good the first time I used it it’s almost like the camera is watching you.
    Also the D7500 is lighter. When you’re can you camera around 7-8 hours on a hike somewhere in the middle of nowhere that’s gonna make a hell of a difference and also just holding it remember holding a camera still free hand is a huge difference when the camera is lighter.
    Okay I’m not gonna bag the D500 as it is a brilliant camera but the D7 500 for almost 1/3 the cost of the D500 it’s a bloody awesome value camera and I think if the D500 didn’t exist then we would be raving about this D7500 but we’re not because there is a similar camera that has a few more features that were pissed off that this camera doesn’t have when in actual fact they are different cameras and that different markets.
    My estimation some prices are Australian dollars. I love the Nikon D750O.

      In today's market - unless you are 100% stills shooter it is very hard to recommend this camera (or any Nikon DSLR for that matter). Even if you are, this camera has some serious drawbacks (the fact that it can't use older Nikon glass is a dealbreaker for many users we talked to and the single memory card is also a letdown) - it doesn't mean that for specific types of shooting it can't be good - and it might very well be that for what you shoot it is enough but anything beyond that, well.

    • @nevvanclarke9225
      @nevvanclarke9225 5 лет назад +3

      Lensvid Most of the older glass lenses that are around have updated lenses anyway. At the end of the day photography is about taking pictures that’s all It is.
      There are lots of positives about this camera but negative.
      The new Eye sensor so works really well as well. Technology is going to advance advance all the time and yet most cameras will get a 3 to 4 year lifespan and then people want to upgrade but the constant chase the technology will always be there. I generally only camera for 5 to 8 years and get the most out of it in fact I love the challenge of getting great photos out of an old camera and I look at photos taken with the new cameras and you glass and people go wow. Ultimately it is the photographer and not the Equipment

      I agree 100% with your decision to purchase this camera.
      I'm coming from an old D90 so this is a perfect upgrade for me. I'm not a professional shooter so the two things about this camera that everyone is up in arms about (lack of grip and dual cards) really isn't relevant to me. Is a corrupt CD card really a problem?
      Also, the D7500 can indeed use older glass - Pretty much ALL AF lenses are compatible.
      Who cares about the slight decrease in MP from the D7200? Give me a better quality (Expeed 5) sensor any day.

      There are quite a few limitations - they might not be important to you - but they are for other users - one big limitation is the inability to use older lenses effectively. The lack of a second SD card is also a deal-breaker for more professional users who will not use this as a B camera. The lack of a grip is also something some people will not be willing to accept.

    Great comparison, sticking to my D7200. Why?...2 card slots, bigger lcd, it can take legacy glass, i like metering button on top, i use video record button to change iso when taking photos, can attach a grip, video is useless on nikons. I bought it for its image quality so not bothered about poor croppedv4k or a couple of extra frames per second. Ps..i love the way this guy says kaemera 😁

  • @FrostByte_AC

    I just bought a D7200 NEW over this D7500 even though I was looking to have this as a backup camera to my Lumix G7's 4K video as well as my main stills camera. I moved up from the D3200. I chose the D7200 for a few reasons. The 4K, though a nice feature, is cropped in a bit further so I would HAVE to invest in a wide angle lens that would live on that camera for video because my Sigma 18-55mm would just be too telephoto for practicality; forcing me to utilize the 1080p60 anyway. Secondly, the D7500 has less nominal megapixels than the D7200. While the sensor might be technologically better, I was moving from a 24 megapixel camera and I often do larger prints, so going down in megapixels was kind of an issue. Finally the removal of dual SD cards. I'm guessing this was a cost-saving decision but taking something AWAY is almost never as popular as introducing something new (e.g. Apple and the headphone jack). Dual SD card slots serve a really REALLY practical purpose that if you've gotten used to is not something you'd like to leave. And it is a good practice to get into backups anyway. I wish they had at least included XQD/SD slots.

      In fact i find this D7500 a step behind. More features brings lacks of others.
      It was so simple, a D7200 with a flip screen, double buffer size and snapbridge.
      With the 20Mp sensor, new processor and AF, so easy -.-
      I hate marketing strategy. Here on D7500 we have smaller body, one single card slot and higher price. If I have to choose of course the D7200, cheaper and really useful as secondary crop body.

      @@nerdMike I currently have a d3200 and have been tossing up whether to upgrade to the d7200 or tge d7500. The improved dynamic range and shooting speed is super tasty to me, the video functions are also really important (I shoot video a fair bit as well as photos). I've always felt the dual card slot problem not an issue, like what exactly is the issue?
      Anyway the cheaper price and overall reviews the 7200 is getting it seems to be the better option?

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  2 года назад +1

      Well, this is a very old video and the D7200 is a very old camera by now. I am not even sure if Nikon still makes it. If it does it will soon stop and stop making DSLRs in general probably by the end of the year.
      APS-C cameras are becoming a tiny niche in the eyes of manufacturers which are making more $2000+ FF cameras so I don't have many good recommendations for you.
      If you are only interested in stills the D7200 is still a capable camera although it lacks much of the modern tracking technologies. For video, it is pretty much irrelevant nowadays.

    I am considering getting the D7500 for wildlife photography/filming as I have Nikon fit lenses & my (older) D600. But it does have those frustrating drawbacks; 1 card slot, no battery grip option and only a tilting lower res screen...however, it still looks capable due to the D500 sensor and 4K video! I'm actually wondering whether it is better to wait & see what Nikon will release next as that will show us generally the direction Nikon is moving in; will it be a D620, a D760 or a DX D5700 - or a brand new mirrorless system? It's hard to predict. If the update to the D5600 had a 24MP BSI sensor, a full vari-angle touchscreen, 51 AF points, Expeed 5 processor, 7-8 fps, 4K video etc then it would kill off the D7500 at a much lower price point (I have put all these suggestions to Nikon so here's hoping!).

      It won't take 12 months. Out understanding is that in the next few months (and surely at or even before Photokina 2018 in late September) we will have at least one very advanced mirrorless Nikon camera (Canon will have one or two as well), It will be FF and extremely capable (not too big as well) - not sure about the price but could be around the D850 price - so not cheap.
      There might be an APS-C or at least a less advanced/less expensive model a bit later.

    Hard to tell who this camera is for. The lack of a second memory card slot rules it out for professional work. People who shoot sports or wildlife often use backbutton focus that is hard to use in portrait mode without a battery grip as there is no room for your thumb between the camera and your forehead, at least if you are left eyed. Not to mention that they will miss the better battery life. This probably should have been named Nikon D5600 as it is more of a slight upgrade to the 5000 series than something you would expect in the 7000 series that we are used consider good semipro cameras. The only good thing with this camera is that it probably will lower the price of the D7200

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  7 лет назад +1

      I partly agree. I don't find grips to be that important personally - I never had a use for them and they make the camera larger (I try to shoot vertical as little as possible - it is less relevant aspect ratio for the web anyway and I don't print that much). I actually find the lack of support for non-cpu lenses to be a much bigger drawback and probably a reason why I would not consider this camera personally (I can live with one SD though).
      Basically as we stated in the end of the video - this is a baby D500 more than a D6500 (or D5600+ or something else). If you shoot sports/wildlife and can't spend the $2K on a D500 - this is a decent option.

Now the D500 is the top of the line camera with all the pro features, such as dual memory slots, Camera Grip and IO tab support. The D7500 is a bridge between the D5600 and the D500. You get a better body (weather sealed) than the D5600, better high ISO image quality, faster frame rates and a way better buffer. If you need a pro level body Nikon is steering you to the D500. For most Enthusiasts they really don't need any of these extra features, so Nikon is giving you the image quality of the D500 but without all the bells and whistles. In terms of battery grips, Nikon knows how many they sell, and if they thought they could make money on them they would have included it. They usually charge like $350 plus the extra batteries. So obviously they were not selling many of them for the D7200. I do totally agree that Nikon needs to improve the video autofocus system. Canon is totally killing them here.

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  7 лет назад +4

      You are 100% correct in this analysis. The only issue is that Nikon is still selling D7200 cameras and for the average (advanced) shooter - it is still a better all-around camera than the D7500. If the D7200 did not exist (let's say that there was only the D5XXX line and now Nikon introduced the D7500) than it was completly logical - but since the D7500 is part of the D7XXX line (at least in Nikon's mind) than we need to compare it to the D7200 and here there are some things which are being removed that a lot of people do not want to see removed (and are fearful - and rightfully so, that any future D7XXX camera will also not include dual card slots, grip support but most importantly - CPU lens support - forcing them to pay for a D500 level camera or a full frame - which is a big problem).

      Lensvid Thanks for the review! It was confusing towards the end because you didn't make it clear as to why you preferred 7200 over 7500 until I read the comments here. As an amateur clicker who is buying their first mid sized DSLR, I don't really want CPU lens support (as I don't have old lenses), nor grip or dual card slot. Is there any other reason why you think 7200 is better?

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  6 лет назад +1

      The D7500 also has a lower resolution which you can clearly see in our test results - it's not huge but it is visible. Other than all of that and the difference in price the D7500 is better.

  • @paulmetdebbie447
    @paulmetdebbie447 5 лет назад

    3:44 something clearly went wrong in your camera image quality setting. Look at the difference in file sizes. Also, what noise reduction setting did you apply? These difference are clearly not due only to sensor size. Did you use same lens and if so, did you fine tune the autofocus?

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  5 лет назад

      I just checked those old images (it is a 2017 review). The RAW images from the D7500 are smaller than those from the D7200 so it has nothing to do with us. We did not fine tune the AF we used the cameras as is (this should not effect the file size although it is possible that the focus is a bit off).
      We used our 105mm macro for all tests. Noise reduction was off.

What's inches to feet to yards etc ?? 1 000 000mm is 10 000dm is 1000m is 1km, as simple as that. Don't even want to start with lb and pounds etc. 1 000 000ml is 10 000 dl is 1 000l is 1 ton.

      The pronunciation is important because the way it's said in this video is awkward. Especially when the ISOs are done better.
      It's logical to say seventy-five fifty two for 7552. It gets exactly the same message across with the added benefit of being briefer. I've noticed that it seems like mostly the British tend to draw the pronunciation out.
      Oh, and it's not only the Americans who pronounce it that way. Canadians do too.

    Nikon d7500 or d3500 for image quality?

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  4 года назад

      The sensors on Nikon most recent APS-C cameras is the same. The processing might be a bit better on the D7500 but I would not expect radical differences. There are a lot of other lot more important differences like AF performance, handling, setting options, ergonomics and much more.

    • @paulmetdebbie447
      @paulmetdebbie447 4 года назад

      D7500 has different sensor. Image quality is comparable. D7500 has about half a stop less noise in the region up from 6400 iso. D3500 has more pixel density which can be beneficial with extreme cropping. I use both without thinking about IQ. It is speed where D7500 exels: frame rate, autofocus. The touch screen and tilting is a further practical advantage.

  • @amparopuig18
    @amparopuig18 5 лет назад

    What about the dynamic range? Nobody's speaking about that. In DXO sensor scores the D7200 scores higher in dynamic range than the d7500 but the d7500 manages low light iso a little bit better

    • @LensVid
      @LensVid  5 лет назад

      This is not easy to measure precisely (I am not aware of a simple repeatable measuring tool for dynamic range), at any rate, I believe the differences both in ISO and DR between the D7500 and D7200 are something that most photographers will not notice in most cases.

IF YOU PRINT your photos 4mp is big,, its a full sixth of the 24mp d7200 and its noticable on big prints .. so they sacrificed photo quality for fps speed and no grip option and the d7200 metal alloy pro body build
    even the grip is alloy .. tough as a cart horse . for an amateur build with a few semi pro features .

Flash metering can be i-TTL, TTL, Slow Sync, Rear Sync, Fill Flash and AUTO FP (HSS). The camera natively supports Nikon's Creative Lighting System.
