  • On 26 April 1999, BBC journalist and Crimewatch presenter Jill Dando was murdered on the front doorstep of her home in Fulham, London. That evening, ITV News aired a special bulletin in tribute to Ms Dando, who was praised by grieving colleagues and contemporaries across the industry. As well as hearing from those mourning Ms Dando, the programme also recorded real-time developments in the investigation into her death. They broadcast the description of the man believed to be responsible for Dando's killing and who continues to elude capture to this day. They also interrupted the bulletin to share the breaking news that Ms Dando had been killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. That evening's 20-minute ITV Evening News bulletin served both to celebrate Dando's work as a respected reporter and support appeals for information that might assist the investigation into her death.

Jill wasn't repeatedly stabbed while screaming for help. She was shot once in the head and had no time to scream at all and the neighbours only found her after she was already dead. Their statements about finding her and getting help have been completely misrepresented. Typical journalists.

Why would they use a psychotherapist to explain a stalkers behaviour on the same day as Jill's murder/tribute programme? Were they deliberately trying to seed the notion before hounding Barry George as a prerequisite. They hadn't completed or eliminated Jill's ex partners yet either. Strange?

What a silly comment. Barry was not even the first person arrested in the case, in fact he was not even question until a year after the murder. Your claiming itv news was part of a murder conspiracy less then 6 hour after Jill Dando was shot . Get a grip son .

A bit of a limp end to a 13 year BBC career, when his hiring from ITN to launch the new 1 O'Clock News was a big deal, plus was the face of the rolling Princess Diana coverage just 18 months before Jill's murder - ironic seeing Jill in some of the coverage that day.

If it was something she knew about, I don't get the impression she was in any way concerned for her own personal safety (which you would think would be the case if she was trying to expose dark secrets). The cctv footage taken at the shopping centres on the morning of her murder just show her going about her business as normal.

Interesting. A quarter of a century after the event, all of 53 positive clicks and a massive figure of 1310 "visits" have been registered for this webvideo. Interesting indeed. What intrigues me though is this. Great play was made here and elsewhere of the matrimonial intentions of Ms. Dando and her fiancé. Both Ms. Dando and Dr. Farthing have demonstrated considerable ambitiousness in their respective careers. Thus, the question arises in my mind as to what the chances would be for the success of an alliance of two such hitherto driven characters as these. Considering retention of the fruits of Dr. Farthing's achievements and, extremely significant, of his spectacular contacts, and pairing these with the undeniable advancement aspirations of a Ms. Dando, the question presents itself as to whether or how long their marriage may have endured.
