  • If you want your Duke to sound louder then before you spend money on an expensive slip on, try this much cheaper solution which is louder than any slip on will be. It has the added benefit of keeping your rear shock cooler, ensuring longer life and reduced damage.

    The Akrapovič manual says, that the clamp of the silencer should be mounted on the inside of the holder (on the side of the wheel). I think it is because of the pressure of the bolt on the carbon fibre

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 года назад +1

      Thanks much appreciated. Spacer goes between the ends of clamp. If you are having issues getting it to fit then you have an alignment issue which is normal when fitting exhaust parts. Loosen off the slip on and sometimes even the cat delete and get them to fit together better. Skäl. David

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 года назад

      Thanks, much appreciated. It will be louder but it will probably not sound good. One of the most difficult parts of exhaust modifications is to end up with a good sound. You should also expect to need to fit a piggyback because it will make the bike run leaner and that’s a problem because they are already borderline too lean. Skäl. David

    Hi! Love your videos. You recommended a piggyback fuel device in the case of a gen 2 bike. I have a gen 1 and I am considering doing the cat delete myself. Do you think such a device would be critical in the case of a gen 1 ktm duke 390 (2014-2016)?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 года назад

      Gen 1 bikes can also use a piggyback but also can have the stock ECU reflashed. Gen 1 is probably OK without the piggyback because it does not meet such strict emissions standards but to be safe, it's a good idea to fit a basic unit.

  • @thereallatexdragon779

    Hey man, I just bought a 2017 Duke 390, I have a slip on exhaust for it but I think you mentioned in your video you do NOT need to do any performance changes in the computer system for the EFI when you put the Leovince pipe in? I just wanted to confirm that I do not need to if I put that pipe in, dont want to damage the bike is all! Awesome video, love it! Cheers

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 года назад +1

      Nice choice! If you have no other mods then you might get away with not adding a piggyback. As stock you can change the slip on to an Akrapovic which flows more than the stock, so the system has some leeway. If you have a slip on then I'd recommend a piggyback with this. On the upside it will give you the ability to make more changes! Skäl David

    Great video! I made the decision to upgrade my 2021 svartpilen 200's exhaust system to enhance its sound. I replaced the presilencer with a midpipe and installed a Yoshimura r77 can without the baffle, while still keeping both catalytic converters. The new sound is incredible, but I've noticed a slight reduction in power after the modifications. Any suggestions on how to get back the bike's original performance?
    Additionally, I'm curious if using Fuelx Lite would be beneficial for both performance and engine longevity?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Год назад

      If you've done that I would recommend a piggyback fuelling device. I don't recommend removing the presilencer - this has been demonstrated in the 390 Duke to reduce mid power. Cat removal is better in my experience. The Lite seems to be a good product in terms of engine longevity - if you want performance then you really need to use a product which optimises the maps, not just avoids lean running.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  2 года назад +1

      It's a resonator/ silencer chamber. You will see this on the performance pipes and missing from the cheap link pipes - without it there can be a loss of mid range power.

  • @Commander730
    @Commander730 3 года назад +1

    11:00 I once struggled with the silencer removal for my Duke 250 MY2016 as well. Fortunately, my colleague found out that you have to press the rear shock absorber in order to make more clearance between the swing arm and the silencer itself, while another hold the thing from gradually loosing down :D
    Not sure if the new Duke is the same.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 года назад +1

      New Duke has more room because the cat is not inside. This one is hard to remove because the brackets collapse onto the spacer when it is installed - once it is off, this can be ground done to eliminate the problem. All good fun! Skäl David

Thanks again so much for all your videos ps I have already have a ecu piggyback :)

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  3 года назад +1

      Hi, the dyno tests that Coober and some other have done suggest that mid range power is better with the cat only delete retaining the presilencer, compared to a cat and presilencer delete. You will note that the full delete pipes from proper exhaust manufacturers such as Leovince and Akrapovid (gen 1 only) have a built in silencer to compensate for this. Presilencer really doesn't make it a lot quieter, it's a fairly subtle change. But with the leovince I did have to run with the baffle in - with arrow, I might be able to get away without the baffle, but it's pretty loud.

    Hi David
    First off, excellent channel and equally excellent content!
    Excuse my ignorance please, but I can’t seem to find any answers.
    I have a 2017 duke 390, she does have the akrapovic slip on fitted but still has the cat and pre silencer.
    Everyone says to remove the cat and pre silencer I have to get a power commander as the bike will run lean.
    Is this true? Or will the standard system adjust to it? Is there anything I need to be careful if I’m considering this

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  2 года назад +1

      Thanks. Yes, it's true that you should get a piggyback if you want to be safe and avoid the risk of engine damage - the Leovince isn't too bad compared to the straight pipe alternatives, but it's at the limit of what I would run. I wouldn't recommend a Power Commander unless you know what you are buying and intentionally choose that product. I would suggest something like the FuelX if you are new to piggybacks. The standard system does adjust but it has a limit to the adjustment - which is place there to keep the stock system within emissions limits - but when you change the system, it needs to be outside of those limits.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 месяца назад

      I removed cat and presilencer so I run a piggyback ECU to ensure that the bike does not run lean as a result. You can probably run just a basic unit but if you decat then chances are you will do more so worthwhile just going fir a proper unit. Skäl. David

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  2 года назад +1

      Changing the exhaust will tend to change your riding style so it’s very hard to isolate fuel consumption outside of a dyno environment. If it’s the only change and you ride in a relatively normal environment then you can get away with no ECU changes. But I’d suggest at least a basic controller.

      I'm not familiar with the 2020 RC, but the later RCs appear to run the same exhaust as the Duke, so physically it will fit. In terms of bad, it depends how you mean. Environmentally, perhaps but cats in themselves are somewhat controversial because they hold concentrated contaminants that there isn't really a good way of disposing.

    I have a 390 Duke and I want to get a decat for it, and I have an SC Project

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  4 года назад

      Well your Dad is right. You’ve chosen a slip on that is best known for being loud. A decat will at least double the volume of any slip on. And you will for sure need a piggyback ECU. The biggest advantage of deleting the cat and presilencer is that it’s the cheapest route to a much louder bike - much cheaper than your SC. That aside it’s also a requirement if you want more power but then your SC probably won’t help with that. Skäl. David

      The performance pipes like the Leovince you see here, and the Arkra fitted to the gen 1, which are developed on a dyno, have a resonator in the pipe. The ones you shouldn't fit are the ones that are just a pipe. But, that said it will restrict your choice of slip on. I prefer to keep the presilencer because then I can fit a small slip on. If you remove the presilencer then you end up needing a big slip on to keep the noise levels down. But there is no one single answer - it all depends what you like and what the enforcement regime is where you live. @@eliasbragvin8288

      That isn't a good question. In some places it is legal and in others it is not. In some places where it is not legal, there is little enforcement so people fit them. In some places where it is legal people don't fit them because the police use it as an excuse to stop riders for inspection (and in some places so they can ask for a cash 'fine'). For cars, emissions are tested in the MOT, but not for bikes. But if you get pulled over for a DVSA roadside inspection (rare) you would have an issue. A loud bike is an excuse for the police to pull you over to see if they can find anything wrong with you or your bike - I suspect these are the reasons RJ has followed the car route with electronic flaps in the exhaust not because of MOT - he lives close enough (or he did last time I checked) to me that he could if he wanted use the same MOT testing station.

But if you decat, it's almost certain that you are going to want to take another step, change the slipon, remove the baffle or do some form of airbox upgrade, so it's best to just plan ahead and start thinking about which piggyback is going to suit you.
