Chris Barber 1965.When the saints......

A rare Chris Barber item...... Recorded in the Friedrichstadpalast in East Berlin.(DDR)
Chris was one of the first 'western" jazzmusicians who was allowed to play in the DDR.
Bandmembers:
Chris Barber - trombone, baritonhorn
Ian Wheeler - clarinet
Pat Halcox - trumpet
John Slaughter - guitar
Stu Morrison - banjo
Micky Ashman - upright bass (he replaced for a short time Dick Smith)
Louis de Lusanet - drums. He replaced Graham Burbrigde, who was ill at that time. Louis was a Dutch drummer, played with de Dutch Swing College Band

Aus dieser Performance wird erklärbar, weshalb Generationen in den Jazz getrieben oder zu Jazzmusikern gemacht hat. Diese einfache Nummer, so wie oben interpretiert, verursacht mir mit ihren Blue Notes heute noch Hüherhaut.

The same Year, in Mulhouse (France) april 30, Stu (on banjo) break a string...I play with my banjo one tune ("Margie") (only with Chris on Trombone, bass (not Mickey), graham Burbidge (drums). My banjo solo was the badest I play during my career : I was so sensitive by Chris, he sing in my ear the melody line of Margie in order to help me...Thank you so much for this. Sorry for this disaster this evening...JO LUTTRINGER, "le petit detective".
