Top 50 Eurovision Songs Closest to Qualifying (2004-2018)

- Here is the top 50 Eurovision performances who were the closest to qualifying to grand finals in 2004-2018. For that, a difference between the last qualifier's and a non-qualifier's scores was calculated and divided by maximum possible score a song could get in the semi-final (to adjust the differences to a number of voting countries and dissimilar voting systems). The results are presented in percentages.
In case of a tie, songs' placements are the tie-breaker. If there is still a tie, the percentage of maximum possible score is the second tie-breaker. In case there is another tie, current rules of Eurovision are applied. The one who gets the highest percentage of the countries who awarded points wins. After that, it is counted how many sets of maximum points in relation to the number of countries each country received, etc.

When I'm sad I think about Bulgaria 2012 not qualifying due to a tie-break. Love Unlimited was one of my favourites that year 😭

Such a shame they picked Norway 2012 instead Bulgaria 2012 (i know there are rules for tie) even Norway came last at 2012.
They didn't picked Norway. Its just that more countries voted for Norway than Bulgaria.

In 2006 Serbia and Montenegro withdrew from the contest but did retain voting rights which is resulted in Macedonia entering the final instead of Poland...

Mihajlo Ðorđević very VERY robbed. She had to qualify, but this contest is full with politics so they qualified the rich country with a bad song and leave the poor country with good song.

How about those songs from 2010 onwards which didn't qualify but would have qualified if they were in the other SF, based on points?
1. Sweden 2010 missed out with 62 points in SF2. However, the cut off for SF1 is 52, so Sweden would have qualified in SF1.
2. Malta 2011 missed out with 54 points in SF1. However, the cut off for SF2 is 54. It would have been 10th in SF2 as it has 11 countries voting for it, while Moldova only has 10.
3. Poland 2019 missed out on qualifying in SF1 with 120 points. However, the cut off for SF2 is 94, making it more than enough to qualify.

How far was Playing with numbers of qualifying? As far as I know she was 7th in jury but second last in televoting.
She would be 82nd in this top. Missed by 18 points out of 240 (7.5%). She ended up 12th in her semi.
Still can't believe the best Swedish entree is the one that didn't qualify, wanted Latvia 2014, Belgium 2011, Bulgaria 2012, San Marino 2013 and Macedonia 2015 to qualify from all the 11th place spots

To this day I still don't get how Na Inat didn't make the final but at least Poli Genova got her revenge
We did not miss a lot out in the final, almost no one also deserved to be in the final. So much songs with nothing saying texts (besides that I don't understand a lot of languages, but those in English are of the BOOM BOOM, and egocentric 'My dream', 'Love me', 'You and me', 'I love myself', ''I love my country' level). Some good songs had very bad stages (like Belgium 2018). Was only sad for Estonia (Verona) and Switzerland (Apollo in 2017), and Unbreakable (2012); Switzerland is the most undervalued country of Europe I find, also in 2018). Some songs were quite nice, but it is easy to imagine there were better songs in their genre. Best everyone is doing like POLI GENOVA of Bulgaria: just come back with a better song and improve your presentation. Thanks for uploading.

Since the introduction of semi-finals in 2004, there were 227 (I hope that's right) non-qualifiers. Here are 50 of them which were the closest to qualifying. More about that in the description.
EDIT: F.Y.R. Macedonia 2008 was 10th, not 11th.
Also note that in 2008 and 2009 only 9 songs from each semi-final were qualified thanks to televoting while the 10th qualifier was determined by the jury. Which is why jury's choices were excluded and songs were compared to those who came 9th.

Rexhep Kameraj Because Bulgaria and Norway had the same amount of points but the jury b*tches decided the richest country to go to the finals which is Norway, and because Bulgaria is poor and it would be a shame for Norway to lose infront of one of the poorest countries in Europe they decided to let Norway to go to the finals to be more "fair".

Look at 6:31 - the synchronizing with singers pixel faces on screens were used by Serbia 11 years ago and in 2020 the same idea of this pixel faces were used by one of favourites of Eurovision 2020 - by Iceland (Daði og Gagnamagnið - Think About Things)
I think that Serbians just overtook their time because in 2020 pixelfaces look very stylish. I don't have an idea how this decor was seen in 2009
