  • There were a number of options I considered for the order of the ages. Saavedro's journal is no help, because no matter what you do it's always out of order. If you go by the order of the phrases in Atrus's journal, it's Voltaic, Edanna, Amateria. Saavedro lists the ages in the order Amateria, Edanna, Voltaic in his first video message. The strategy guide goes Voltaic, Amateria, Edanna.
In the end, I decided on this order for two reasons: it puts Saavedro's paintings in chronological order, and it's also the order the ages are sung in the theme song: "Tomahna, Edanna, Amateria, Voltaic, Narayan." :)

This guy is the best let’s player I’ve ever watched….so patient and calm while he’s playing the game, almost like he’s savoring every moment, while also going slow enough to let the viewer try to figure out the puzzles along with him.
This is in starch contrast to virtually every other let’s player I've seen…they are constantly swearing, have the patience of a three-year old, and get mad every time something doesn't go their way.
Dilandau3000 is a breath of fresh air (pardon the pun).

The Stranger keeps dutifully closing all the doors behind himself, unlike in Riven. I guess in the years between the two games, every time he forgot to close a door behind himself, someone would ask him if he was raised in a barn or something.

Sticking in the real world (the ages of the Myst games could easily contain such exotic materials), tungsten has a melting point of over 3,000 degrees C, while lava never normally gets over 1200C.
So yes, it's possible (if ridiculously heavy).

Lava: the only way this Age could get any scarier. And you have to be in the same room with it. Ugh, why! At least it seems to be magic lava that's merely unpleasantly warm when you're near it.

Yay! Another person who remembers that game series like myself and Arthur's never-ending witty comments and banter. :D

This is how the room worked the first time. The platform was half-way up with the gear on the right. Both side doors were closed, trapping the lava in the room. (This would be achieved in-game by going to the top, then lowering on the left, and switching the gear to the right.) Then, you lowered the gear on the right. This lower the platform and raised the effluent door, releasing the lava that was stagnant in the room. You can try it in the game.

Yeah I wonder how in the world would Atrus risk his life going across that long pipe if he ever followed Saavedro

I always did it Voltaic, Edanna, Amateria. Voltaic was always the easiest, Edanna was my favourite, and I like ending things off with the awesome ride on Amateria.

In my version of M3, the gear in the lava pit had to be moved right to make the final ascent to the fan control switch. Love these walkthroughs.

I never quite got how the lava room would work in real life either.
If I remember correctly there was even a specific series of actions which would result in it showing contradictory results through the two windows.

7:20 The cavern being referred to is in Amateria; the painting there is on a smooth surface, but the surrounding rocks are columnar basalt (like all the rocks in Amateria), meaning that Saavedro must have chipped away at the rocks to get a smooth surface.

Not if they're made from a material with a higher melting point than lava. ;)

I remember playing this game for the first time and not being able to find that ladder near the valves. Honestly had more trouble with Voltaic than Edanna, although Edanna creeped me out as a kid with its giant pitcher plant.

That pitcher plant is the reason Edana is my least favorite, even to this day I don’t have the nerve to get close to it.

It's not a plot-hole. If you leave the piston on the left, lowering the platform closes the intake gate, but leaves the out gate closed as well. Then move the piston to the right. This is the situation it was in when you found it. Lowering the platform again opens the out gate, allowing the lava to leave.
The way you did it, with the intake open, you lowered the platform and opened the out gate. Then you lowered the intake, cutting off lava flow.

The hot Air from the Lava room seems a Bit dry to Producer steam of all Things. That's more of a plothole to me ;)

With a material like that, you could take geothermal generators to the next level.
What is it with Myst games and holy grails of power generation and power management? Lava-resistant metals, room temperature superconductors,marble-sized energy sources with unprecedented output...

That is NOT an electromagnet, genius. That is merely an electrical hub. It serves no purpose other than distributing the current to the various sections of the age. Please stop calling it an electromagnet.
