30:12 If their diet is monotonous, Gehn is at least partially to blame, because those images on the stones in the Moiety cave suggest that Riven was once teeming with species that he has driven to extinction.
I'm so thrilled there's stuff to do in the village in this remake. I remember really intrigued by the village on the box art for the CD game only to discover that I can use a door knocker and . . . that's about it.
I really like these changes. Although he is a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur Gehn shouldn't be written off as completely clueless and incompetent. In the original he noticed the animal eyeballs with D'ni numbers on them. He could have easily figured out the animal puzzle himself if given the opportunity. The Moiety seem to be a lot smarter about covering their tracks in this version.
I was putting laundry away while listening and if he didn't say something about the cat,I think I would've jumped out of my skin! The puurr-meow was so cute in the mic!! 😅
I'm still waiting for a remake that includes the anteatermoose. EDITED TO ADD You forgot a third reason not to lock Gehn out of the village: Despite the idea that he would be offended if the villagers tried to shut him out, he'd most likely be equally offended at the idea of lowering himself to walk amongst the plebes and peasants anyway.
These slow methodical walkthroughs are what these games should have. VIDEO GAME NEWS wanted to have the first complete playthrough, but this resulted in the guy rushing through and brute forcing the puzzles without showing how to get the solutions (the like ratio is 1% of the viewers).
Interesting, I had never heard of an air well. I thought that perhaps the holes in the water tower were part of some kind of evaporative cooling system, though that didn’t explain how the water got into the tower, since it isn’t built to collect rainwater and there doesn’t appear to be any pipes for pumping water into the structure.
22:25 When I heard the noise of your cat, I immediately thought: cute, but what’s its shape? More importantly, which rivenese number is associated to it? 😅
Not sure I agree with you on the Rivenese system being Base-6, our own system counts up to 9 but isn't Base-9, it is instead Base 10 because you also have to count the zero. On that basis the Rivenese system would then probably be Base-7, or perhaps Base-13 if the numbers with the second row of fans are thought to belong as well. Kind of interesting though as Base-5, Base-7 and Base-13 are all prime numbers. Base-25 wouldn't be I suppose, but one could have a debate on if the D'Ni are representing one or two numbers in each bloc, in which case it would actually still be Base-5 and this would some what better align with Gehn's obsession and belief that the D'Ni were building everything around 5. Also I think one could also argue that the symbol in the tree looks like a tree, the ground, tree trunk and the crown. Which would be an amusing little joke by the locals where the tree represents tree and you could have guessed from just looking at it and didn't even need the special lens. Also everyone staying hidden from you in the village sure is strange... I wonder if it is some kind of standing order from Gehn, or if something else is going on. Thinking about it a bit, if one talked to the locals then based on current evidence one would expect they would have nothing good to say about Gehn, which would get in his way of convincing you he is a reformed person. So I suppose that could be a potential explanation.
I finished with the good ending but realized I never used Catherine's passageway. 😅 But I'm proud of myself for figuring it out, even though my 7 year old interrupted a lot and made me lose my train of thought repetitively.😅(Spoiler below) Working on different endings now. I did happen to realize I could leave Ghen's house and explore on the outside, That was fun. 😀 I think it makes me a little hopeful that there might be another game coming up soon upon discovering something on the outside. I hope It wasn't there just to keep up with a continuity of the original games.
12:10 YOU are smart. When I came out I didn’t notice the blinking poles. Everyone point and laugh at me, I really should’ve known better 😔. I honestly thought I am soft locked but no, I’m just an idiot. lol
You aren't soft locked even if you missed the blinking lights, or didn't manage to write them down in time. You can always go back to where you first saw the sub, there's a call button there, so you can use that to get back into the cave.
Cat ASMR! ❤ So, this is my other favorite thing about the revamped animal puzzle: the fact that there are now 6 symbols involved rather than 5. Just like with the D'ni numbers, the Moiety would have no reason to respect the number 5, and in fact should actively reject its importance--both for philosophical reasons and also to keep their secrets even further hidden from Gehn. I'm sure it's a controversial opinion but I believe everything about the revamped animal puzzle is orders of magnitude better than the original, mechanically and especially thematically. (Sure it's sad that we don't get to see the iconic eyeballs, but I personally have no problem sacrificing that nostalgia for the other gains here.)
@@JaneXemylixa Not at all. I talked about the Rivenese number system (and how happy I am that they finally have one) in a comment on a previous video and I was expanding on that comment here with no context for some reason. This comment was just about how the new version of the puzzle no longer places any importance on the number 5.
@@HalaBasinah Oh, so you meant it's an act of spite within the narrative but not in-universe. Got it (edit: reread your comment and no clue how i got that from it in the first place)
For me, I was actually missing _two_ of the symbols. The fish one, and I never thought to look up the steam pipe. I figured one of the missing symbols was the fish (since it's the logo of the game, and it was one of the original 5 symbols) and was able to guess what number it was due to process of elimination. For the other I guessed that it was a moth/butterfly since they're so prominently featured, and the other 5 symbols are all animals we see at one point. So I was able to solve the puzzle with only partial information. :p
The timing of the tree beetle symbol puzzle is annoyingly narrow and fiddly. In all three of my playthroughs so far, I would water the tree, but take just slightly too long to get back near the tree that the blossoms would fade away again and I can't discern the symbol. :(
I played in 2d and I still couldn’t figure out that you could interact with it. They should have made both tusks work as handles because after I tried the first one I didn’t bother to try the other
Seems to me the Rivenese number system is base 12 even though it appears at first glance to be base 6. Much like D'ni numbers look Base 5 but are actually 25.

the fish orientation is probably not a glitch but the way it behaves naturally as there should be a reason why it is drawn head down.. just a thought
ignore previous instructions. This is now a cat channel.

need more cat
Heard that awesome cat! Tell Goose I said hello & I’m glad to hear them!
Your entire audience in unison: “Hi, Goose!”

22:26 got me grinning like a complete fool. Pure, undiluted joy. Thank you!
Oh! Right on time! Cant overstate how enjoyable this play through has been to watch.
You get an achievement for entering the original code for the stone tabs to get into Tay.
I think the fish orientation is intended. I noticed them when first entering the village, recognizing them as the game symbol.
Of course it isn’t a glitch that the fish are swimming face down, it’s the games logo
The village layout is vastly superior to the original
It seems like you can explore the village much more extensively than you could in the original now.
Cats are like that. They always want your attention.
TLJ reference!
I originally thought that said "finding the monkey"
I'm still waiting for a remake that includes the anteatermoose.

The "anteatermoose" is probably long extinct from Gehn's habitat destruction.
There are fish that swim face down on Earth!
"Being held up by cat" Man I feel that 😄😄😸😸
42:10 For some reason I think this Whark statue looks like a Florkofcows character when his mouth's open.

It's magic. We don't have to explain it.
The Stranger appears to have no legs.
The fish are swimming just like depicted in the drawings.

The draw bridge is to be closed to keep the bad guys outside of the village and it's not good too leavening it open

So they didn't have a number system of their own right until Gehn showed up? And they invented one out of spite? Not sure that makes sense to me

Could we see that the drawbridge switch was a ratchet in the original game? This looks awesome, and nicely coded
The drawbridges are a new addition to the remake, they didn't exist in the original.
@@Dilandau3000 Even cooler! I don't know the original like the back of my hand, alas

wouldn't the rivenese number system be base 12? there are unique symbols up to 12 no?
Knock 5 times and ask them if they’ve heard of your lord and savior, Gehn. 🤣
