See this is what I had both love and hate DC at the same time. Because they make some very very quality black characters, yet they don't capitalize on them as hard as they should. Black Lightning, Vixen, Jon Stewart, Joe Mullen, Honor Guest (Silencer), Nubia, Bronze Tiger, John Henry Irons. This man's is literally Amazing and it's backed up!
The moment I look at Jerry Ordway's art, I am engulfed in classic silver age DC Comics. I love it! I've always found amazing man's design and power set interesting, and the character deserves more development.
Whoa Blerd YOU be reaching. I remember Amazing Man. I've been collecting since the 70's and YOU work it like and old song that that I forgot I used to love. Represent Blerd my man. BE WELL mate.
Awesome re-cap! I have been following this character since his debut. One of the reasons I have collected comics for about 30 years. Greatly appreciate your channel for the knowledge you drop!
Back in the day, I had the whole All Star Squadron and Young AllStar run. Roy Thomas told some excellent stories that honored the Golden Age and its legacy.
Instead of turning traditionally non Black characters Black, it would be nice to see a story exploring and featuring multiple Black characters, especially characters not seen in a while. Maybe the story could explore a theory like the one hinted in Doomsday Clock where the governments are suspected of creating some heroes or defeating some unseen villain who has been working behind the scenes to do something nefarious.
When I was younger about 8 my dad picked up a collection of the All-Star Squadron comics. Reading these comics I became familiar with these 1940s characters while in 1985. I loved them all, but Amazing Man was "amazing" I loved his powers and enjoyed ever issue he was in especially the Real American story arc. It helped me understand the times so much better and with Roy Thomas a man who also is a historian writing the stories were great and I actually learned more historically from these books than in school. Actually got to tell Roy that at a convention. Wish they would use Amazing Man more loved the JSA version also ... we need more African American and other minority heroes in comics. Thank you so much for doing this video.
I've always liked this character and I think you're right about DC comics not really knowing how to move with the original. And dropping the ball with his descendants is an atrocity
Funny, cause I always thought that the Justice League/Extreme Justice version of Amazing Man was the same one on the Justice Society lol. They do need to bring him back, but I think they should change up his powers to make him more unique. The energy absorbtion ability was a nice touch
Agreed. Maybe in addition to absorbing a certain property, he can control the material he absorbed it from. For example being able to manipulate the structure of a skyscraper and use it as an extension of himself.
I only knew about Junior for the longest time, but eventually I learned the whole story. I still think Junior was the best iteration with the most potential story-wise. And to correct myself... I had learned a LOT of the rest of the story, but watching this, there was a lot more I never knew. Loves your vids bro 😻👍
Knew about him visually but never read anything featuring him till Kingdom Come. Awesome legacy, IMO similar to Blood Wind I would introduce a POC female hero, but I guess it could be Marcus Clay's daughter, Amazing Girl. She would definitely be high on the intelligence with scale with a heavy interest in all things science while her father telling about the unfortunate death of her uncle, Amazing Man II, made her train hard to outthink her opponents. Although I LOVE my muscled heroines, I'd make her more either ecto-morphic or endo-morphic, highlighting more her mind and personality than her physic.
The Robotman in All Star Squadron isn't the same Robotman from Doom Patrol. The Doom Patrol Robotman is Cliff Steele while the All Star Squadron version is Robert Crane aka Paul Dennis.
Has DC ever collected All Star Squadron and Young All Stars? If not, they really need to. Anyway, it's really frustrating that DC has characters like Amazing Man that they never really use.
Yes!!! I have always wondered what had happened to him. I also saw what you said about Bloodwyn the other Black super that they didnt use very much!Miss Black Lighting too!!
I collected All-Star Squadron when i was a kid and became a fan of Amazing Man and was happy the character was re-introduced in the modern era via Justice League, Extreme Justice and then Justice Society. And, I agree, they introduce these characters and then poof they are gone. The only one right now who still has some traction is Black Lightning but his visibility is somewhat limited right now that the tv series is over and I don't know if he is still part of the plot line of Young Justice animated at this point. What it boils down to is that the writers and artists come up with interesting black heroes and sometimes get the chance to flesh them out but as you said at some point they are pushed into the background until they just disappear to the disappointment of fans of color like you and I.
Just read Amazing Man 80's All Star Squadron w/ his battle against Real American (very timely subject matter) and searched this video out. This vid answered all my questions. Amazing Man is 1 of my new fav heroes. The O.G.
They need to bring back William Everett the third and Markus to do a family Book I always wanted that For a second I thought Markus was in Black Lightning season 1 the teacher in the room with the kid saying Ninja
Another underutilized superhero from DC. I know DC likes promoting Mr. Terrific, John Stewart and Black Lightning as their prominent black male superheroes, but I think Amazing Man should be featured more as well. The other one I wish would return is Tempest from Doom Patrol. He was featured in one episode of the Doom Patrol streaming series.
I say retcon amazing man . Make his grandfather the first Amazing Man His son will take on the mantle for a short time until his death . Then his grandson Will Everette III who father died as a young boy never knew his father and grandfather secret . Until when he turns sixteen and gains super powers . His grandfather trains him to use his powers until he dies of old age . Also we need to give amazing man his own rogue gallery of villains .
Cool character and agree they should find away to introduce him back in. Side note since this video was made Amazing Man was shown in the Crisis on Infinite Earth animated movie.
Ernie. Robotman from the All Star Squadron is Robot Man 1 named Robert Crane. He's a completely different character than Cliff Steele Robotman 2. *Similar but two different characters* AM was friends with Crane, not Steele.
I love your vids Ernie, appreciate all the great characters you make me aware of, it kinda pisses me off they killed him off in Starman. The Amazing Man needs to be on the JSA!
I know I might get flack but my all time favorite legacy character was always all of Pyms persona. It’s sad to see that all of them have been snuffed out or irrelevant
I want to point out Mr. Terrific (2) olympic level athlete and 3rd smartest man in the world. And a tech billionaire to rival Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor. Micheal Holt (real name) is currently the employer of Wally West in Central City. He is a member of the most recent Justice Society pre 52. And is again active. Yes he knows who wally is and gives him permission to take care of any important errands that may occur. Paying him generously especially as Wally has a family to raise. Mr. West is on an extremely flexible schedule as an expert consultant to Holt Industries. They try hard to use him right. Of course there is Jefferson Pierce as well, Black Lightning. Introduced in the 80s as well and has 2 daughters with super powers last I saw them. Was heavily involved back in Final Crisis. DC has done ok with them. To be fair there is a huge roster of villans and heroes we don't hear from. Dead but not brought back. Even in Black Lantern /White Lantern stories. How about Hal Jordan's cousin AirWave? When since before 2010 have we seen Ultra-Humanite after he changed history by transplanting his brain into an elderly Johnny Thunder to take control of his 5th Dimensional Thunderbolt? Ruled the world. Or how about Per Degaton? Rich history to use. How about the freedom fighters? Heroes of pre crisis earth 2 who went to Earth X to free the world from the Axis powers in a war that lasted 40 years? Comics as a whole not selling well. Maybe stories like these that are full of hope and optimism can bring new fans in.
The Freedom Fighters had a series from 2018-19 and Ultra-Humanite was a major villain in the New52 Earth 2 series, had major story arc in Batman/Superman in 2020 and was the main villain in this years Superman and the Authority miniseries
To Ernie, I just read The Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY, did you know that Ricochet (of The Slingers) is a mutant? I’m not sure if that was acknowledged previously, but I haven’t seen him around in Krakoa ever before.
Feel you 100% he deserves a proper revisit Any idea on what the design references for Marcus clay was feels very Greg land copied from a magazine but I can’t place from where
So cool. I liked this character. Reminds me of Blue Marvel. Bring back the OG. DC writers are weak. Thank you for the information. This super-hero is awesome. I’m going to hunt down the All-Star.
If a (JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA) cartoon show series, gets made someday; I would like the 1st. AmazingMan, the 1st. Dr.Fate, and other heroes to be shown in it. I imagine Amazing-Man joins the (JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA) in the year1970, at the age of 26years old. But before that he was a criminal, who began doing crime at age:21, his last criminal act was at age:24, and later he went to jail, spent a year in prison. Once he earned his release from jail, he tried looking for honest work, he hope to find honest work that paid well, then got his first job by WildCat. In addition I imagine his second job opportunity, came from (Thomas Wayne). I also imagine the realm that AMAZING-MAN, and other first generation heroes, all exist within, is the Earth-68 Realm. To add I imagine the first Batman of this realm is (Thomas Wayne). In addition I imagine the first CatWoman is Maria Thorn, who later marries a man, whose name is Brian Kyle, later she has a baby daughter. Much later (Maria Kyle) becomes a widowed woman, who raises her daughter, whose name is (Selina Kyle).
15:00 Jamie would be dope, but I'd still choose Michael Jai White or Terry Crews lol idk he just looks Terry Crews big. And if John Cena can act and successfully lead a series I'm sure Terry has some leading man in him too! 🤣
I would love to see Trevante Rhodes play Amazing Man Anna movie. By the way where did you find these photos from? Asking because I love to make some of them into wallpapers for my phone
I've been a fan of amazing man since his first appearance in All-Star Squadron I love his power set his original powers are best and let's just be real DC really don't know how to write or do black superheroes
I thought Ralph Jackson. was first black hero in DC comics. Amazon man is interesting but I feel they need change the name and out fit. A better name I feel would have been if he was called The atom but these just my opinions and nothing more.
Another fun fact: DC’s Amazing Man was also a tribute to the golden age’s Centaur Publications’ Amazing Man, created by….the real life Bill Everett.
This is the guy that Onyx was always talking about in Young Justice Season 4, her grandfather
I would love to see a tv series just on the Black superhero characters we don't know about.
Amazing man and Nubia( wonder woman's black twin sister) would be a great team up series
Hopefully, Young Justice will feature a version of Amazing Man because they introduced Onyx as his granddaughter already.
If you like John Henry Irons and Natasha, you should watch Superman and Lois.
Exactly
You mean Marvel? The woke Comics.
The moment I look at Jerry Ordway's art, I am engulfed in classic silver age DC Comics. I love it! I've always found amazing man's design and power set interesting, and the character deserves more development.

Wow I wonder why this Amazing character isn't more prevalent these days??? smh
Strong straight nuclear family man who is African American and not a victim?? Hmmnn now why not.
@@Ozzy_2014 exactly 👀
I wish they placed him on the Justice Society in Black Adam
When I was younger about 8 my dad picked up a collection of the All-Star Squadron comics. Reading these comics I became familiar with these 1940s characters while in 1985. I only learned about Amazing Man because of Young Justice not too long ago. Happy to get this video history. Peach preacher.
This man was spoke of in that second arc of *Young Justice* season 4.
Wait you mean Amazing Man did what Blue Marvel didn't, join the fight against oppression his people were facing?
Thank you finally someone talking about him
I have never heard of this character before. Thanks for the info in the video.
With his post hero history, he would have made an excellent chapter in The Other History of the DCU.
I've always liked this character and I think you're right about DC comics not really knowing how to move with the original. And dropping the ball with his descendants is an atrocity
We're living in the damn matrix. I literally have been on an Amazing Man kick for the past week. Just got All Star Squadron #23 the other day 😳
Funny, cause I always thought that the Justice League/Extreme Justice version of Amazing Man was the same one on the Justice Society lol.
Thanks, Ernie! Amazing Man was one of my favorite All-Star Squadron members!
He had couple appearances in the new Justice League crisis. Infinity Earth movies
I only knew about Junior for the longest time, but eventually I learned the whole story. I still think Junior was the best iteration with the most potential story-wise. And to correct myself... I had learned a LOT of the rest of the story, but watching this, there was a lot more I never knew. Loves your vids bro 😻👍
thank you for doing some of the older heroes this is great.
I remember that character, it would be nice to see him back in DC
dope character. 11:13 though, that panel in isolation sounds like some “pull up your pants and wear a belt type ish”
Knew about him visually but never read anything featuring him till Kingdom Come. Awesome legacy, IMO similar to Blood Wind I would introduce a POC female hero, but I guess it could be Marcus Clay's daughter, Amazing Girl. He looks like Ving Rhames
This is a great character, great history, powers there's been two versions, they need to bring him back in a more modern nice suit
There were some out of print trades of the first part of the A*S run.
Yes!!! I have always wondered what had happened to him. I also saw what you said about Bloodwyn the other Black super that they didnt use very much!Miss Black Lighting too!!

Happy BLACK HISTORY Month tribute to William Blake Sr AKA AMAZING MAN Blessings and Hugs 👑💜
I thought his name is Rocker Bonn!
I remember reading this when this came out I was 10. Loved the story.
They need to bring back William Everett the third and Markus to do a family Book I always wanted that
For a second I thought Markus was in Black Lightning season 1 the teacher in the room with the kid saying Ninja
Man one of my old favs
Well he's gonna be in the new DC animated series Infinite Crisis Earth not sure if he will have a big roll but he's definitely in there
I've known about Amazing Man since his debut; Fun Fact: he is named for the creator of Sub-Mariner!

Shite, marvel only have the black panther
I say retcon amazing man .

I would love a cage match between Amazing Man, Parasite, Rogue, Amazo, Absorbing Man and Kevin 11.
Never heard of Amazing Man but I do really like 👍
Thanks for the knowledge! Great video! ✊🏾
Ironically one of the justice league extreme justice issues he recommended I own
Cool character and agree they should find away to introduce him back in. Side note since this video was made Amazing Man was shown in the Crisis on Infinite Earth animated movie.

Very Interesting
I want to see him get his own series or at least show up in the new season of stargirl
Absorbing Man, I was gonna say Kevin 11.
And,they're he is!!
If he had absorbed Dr Fates helmet properties I bet he would get a massive headache or just a golden shine.
They need to give him his absorbing powers back and revisit the helmet of fate thing
I love your vids Ernie, appreciate all the great characters you make me aware of, it kinda pisses me off they killed him off in Starman. The Amazing Man needs to be on the JSA!
He'd be the one and only comic book character that couldn't come back from the dead
@Ernie. You never let me down. I think Eamonn Walker from Chicago Fire would be a good choice also..
Love what you doing fam keep it up.

Yes I do remember when this character showed up in Justice Society. I do want DC to reuse him again this character has been twisting in the wind.

Please do many more videos with this type of video layout
Update he’s in DC Animation film infinite earth crisis.
Wait his absorbing powers were dope, why did they give him electric powers out of nowhere?
Almost every straight Black Men that's a Super hero is in Protective Custody 🙌
Thanks Bro & I agree jamie fox would make a good Amazing man I do have one question are you going to do one on tryrc I hope I spell that right

I wonder if Amazing Man's costume based off of a Drum Major...?

I think Terry Crews is a dead ringer for the NOLA version of AM.
Why have I never heard of amazing man
Thank you for this video, it is amazing. (Pun intended.*)
Im here bcuz Emergency Awesome's Charlie said this could be Green Arrow or the Atom.. on the 2023 DCU Crisis animation vid🤡..
No respect 😂 thnx Blerd
WHAT? WHY? 😂😂
Amazing Man would've been perfect in Black Lightning. Wasted opportunity.
I thought Ralph Jackson. was first black hero in DC comics. Amazon man is interesting but I feel they need change the name and out fit. A better name I feel would have been if he was called The atom but these just my opinions and nothing more.
So many awesome black characters in DC lore WHY DON'T THEY USE THEM GET THEM OUT OF Witness PROTECTION
Sounds like an amazing waste of a character to not be used
just another example of a powerful black character, not being able to showcase how powerful they are…
I am today year old.
