SO I WAS A PART OF THIS VIDEO! IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING! Here's some fun trivia! Corey sat down on stage and talked to us about the video and the song in between shoots If you look closely at once point, the orange Wacky Wavy punches Corey's phone out of his hand which is why Corey punches it at the end, totally cracking on himself for doing that to a concertgoer in the past. They wanted to do this for the song 'Digital (Did You Tell)' from Audio Secrecy, but the record company thought it was too dumb of an idea, and the band hounded them to let them do this until they finally caved for this song. They said '..if we let you do this video, will you finally shut up about it?' This idea was technically seven years in the making! Corey said the inspiration behind it was other bands taking themselves and their music and videos way too seriously, and that 'not every video needs to have a message'. The band was completely fun to hang around and interacted with everyone like they were family, and I cherish the day I got to do this. I made a few pals, I got to meet everyone, and hear the song before most of the goddamn world. That's cool as fuck. Much love to the guys in Stone Sour for making my fucking year. Oh also.. the crowd is composed of roughly 40 people ;D We just had to jam all around the Wiltern, heh
How does Corey do it? Gets a cult following in two totally separate bands. Lots of badassery ensues. Makes a double album with Stone Sour that gets multiple "Best Rock Album of All Time" awards, makes arguably one of the darkest Slipknot albums at perceivably the same (ish) time, now this. He just constantly delivers. The man's a genius. Of course the other members of both bands are talented as hell as well. RIP Paul, the world will never know another man as amazing as you.

Corey himself has said that yes Slipknot is the dark and brooding side, and where while Stone Sour is still somewhat dark it's much lighter, meaning he doesn't view them as opposites per say, but maybe more complimentary. Slipknot wouldn't do a lighthearted video with tube men for example.
I'll definitely take generic music videos like that over "look at us we're bad boys, now cream over us and buy our shitty metalcore record, fangirls" videos (edit - not saying this is an example of that, but some scene bands do that a lot)

Agreed. They could get away with not having Jim in Song #3, but this song definitely felt like something was missing and I just couldn't get into it. Josh and this new guy aren't bad by any means, but Jim had a certain style that this heavy metal track was lacking.
It's called authorship (what is missing). Jim doesn't just play whatever music sheet is given to him, he is an actual artist. His parts have pieces of his own personality and way of thinking or feeling. Essentially, they have fragments of his own self. And that's why he HAD to left. Because Corey is also all of those things i just said. And then my friend, when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object, there's no way they could be in the same band and both be satisfied with what they were creating. It's not the first time to happen. Actually, everytime two great talented artists meet this is bound to happen. See David Bowie and Freddie Mercury collaboration in Under Pressure. Although, the competition between those two geniuses of music, their desire to overpower one another gave birth to one of the masterpieces of contemporany music (in my opinion). I just wish this competitive spirit could always be turned into great art, unfortunately that's not always the case.
