I figured a trick out for that pain in the ass detent ball. Put everything together without the spring and ball, then rotate it past all of the detents and put spring and ball in place then rotate it back to capture the ball. Works way better that what you showed. Thanks
Next time I do an automatic I'm definitely using the hose clamp and freezer trick on the apply piston seal. I had a heck of a time getting that one in when I did my cruise o matic. The old seal was so shrunk and hard I took the piston out with 2 fingers.
I’ve just bought a original rear seal for my transmission on the tail shaft the seal has a rubber ring inside like a typical rear seal but also has a fiber or wool like material on the other side which side goes in the rubber or the wool
After I thought for a second I thought no that is wrong. Had to look at two different manuals before I found it, felt faces the rear, rubber goes in. hope I did not screw you up.
OK the red oval tag on the left-hand side of the transformation says 1950 then it has a five digit number out to the side of that that says 29660 I have the front part of the torque converter disassembled but I cannot get the back part out of the transmission it will not slide off the shaft the centerpiece of the torque converter where your thrush washer goes has slack in it like it wants to come off. It wont
I looked back through all the material I have on this unit and it says the torque converter should just slide out. Makes no mention of any snap rings. So I am not sure why it will not come off. Maybe a little burr on the splines. It also says the Ford-O-Matic started in 1951. Do not find a listing for an automatic before that. Does your case look like the one in the video? It says the 51 was a small case so it would look similar but smaller.
I have a question, I have a 57 Ford fairlane 500 and my son and I pulled the transmission, I wasn’t able to help because of a shoulder injury, but when he unbolted trans from Fly wheel and we lowered transmission the torque converter came a part, how do we get the rest of the torque converter to slide out of the transmission I watched your video on the rebuild of the torque converter but how do you slide the torque converter out of the transmission to reinstall the transmission
@@CurmudgeonTransmission so I have to Disassemble the torque converter to get to the front seal once I replace the front seal reassemble the torque converter inside the bell housing and replace the transmission correct
@@CurmudgeonTransmission The front of the torque converter is disassembled but I can’t get the rest of it to slide out of the transmission on the shaft is there a snap ring or some thing that’s holding it to keep it from sliding off the shaft?
Part # I don't know. You may have to buy an entire kit to get it. Fatsco is probably your best bet. Maybe Transtar or WIT. Links are in the description.
Yes, get asked this a bunch. I have not noticed a difference between soaking them or not. Now if I was building this to sit on a shelf or it was going in a race car I would.
One reason you don't free soaking this you have to measure your clearance once you measure the clearance and put it together just pour some transmission fluid in it
I was thinking of another transmission earlier. The torque converter should slide out on this one. Go to my Instagram page and post pictures of what you have and let me see what we are dealing with. curmudgeontransmission@Instagram

Please recommend a good band re-liner for my 63 Lincoln large case cruise-o-matic. Thanks.
Alabama Band if they are still in business. Fatsco if not. The Fatsco link is in the description. www.alabamaband.net/

Where can I find a replacement pan for ford o matic? Great video!
Thanks. I would try Fatsco or Slauson's, links are in the description of the newer video's for them.

Wool faces in , rubber out. Hold up I will double check and make sure , seems right.

You have to disassemble the torque converter. Show the assembly in the video, just reverse it.

Is there a reason why you don't pre-soak your bands and clutches?

Super excited to watch all of this. I’ve done allot of transmissions but never one ☝️ f these.
That's awesome. I may not try it though

What is the reassembly lube you are using?
Transjel and Dr. Tranny. Both make the same colors. I use gold and green. Gold is the thinnest, red, blue and green is the thickest.
Where are you located Tom ?
No offense but I decided when I started this I was not going to give that information out.
