What's the waiting process after extraction?

Hi there, and thank you for this question. The waiting period depends on the next step in the process for your patient. Are they receiving a new denture? Hard or soft reline? Implant supported? Each wait period depends on the next step of the process.

This all seems fantastic advance in denture making.
But may I ask, how affordable is the process, and can anyone afford it?

Great question. The affordability of digital dentures is forever getting better as newer, faster, more efficient printing machines are being built and new materials are being developed. If a lab wanted to get into this business there would be some outlay on the appropriate machines, software, and training but I believe that this is more accessible than ever.

I am a dental tech. for 49 years.You seem to say tryins aren't that important and not necessary.I totally disagree.We do tryins on all our dentures except for immediates.The patient should see how the teeth look and if changes have to be done it's very easy with a wax tryin.The amount of waste when milling a denture is unacceptable.I can pack 5 dentures with the same amount of acrylic you use milling one. With all the environmental concerns this is not good. Remember the denture is only as good as the impression and bite.Digital dentures seem to be the way of the future,but still needs refinement.My last comment seemed to disappear.Hope this one stays on.Hope the sample dentures aren't an indication of what you consider good work.Rough in the interproxamets over stippling,nothing but food traps and very hard to keep clean.

Thanks for this comment. We pack many dentures and partials and use traditional methods about 50% of the time. You’ll find agreement from us on best methods of making dentures, try-ins, resets, wash impressions, gothic arch tracers, border molding, functional impressions, myostatic outline and so forth. These are wonderful methods that should be employed. We found that nearly all cases that are returned from a digital try-in / set-up do not ask for a reset, rather the Rx says go to finish. With that data (almost 95% of the time), we began offering digital finals from bite blocks to save material, waste, appointments… We agree with you, however we still have a lean toward digital for efficiencies, less material waste, cost to doctor, and of course the demand from the market.

@@ROEDentalLaboratory I used to be part owner of a commercial lab.I agree ,some dentists were more concerned about cost and speed, than quality. For the last 35 years I 've been with Denture Clinics and work on our own patients.This is very personalized service and we owe it to the patients not to take shortcuts.I'm semi retired now and hope that pride in workmanship will still prevail in the future.

Thanks for your comment Pissy Pixie's Playland. For doctors ordering traditional dentures, or doctors who are not sufficiently experienced with a digital denture workflow, or generally cautious doctors, we would always recommend a try in.
We have found, though, that if we have accurate records we can go straight to a digital denture final with a lot of confidence. If there is an issue with the final digital denture, we advise doctors to make adjustments, use a sharpie, capture a photo or two, and send that all to us, and we’ll perform a ‘reverse reset’. We will incorporate this new data into the existing digital design and improve the design. In this situation the initial final plays the role of a try in. We then fabricate a new final and send it back to the doctor for a fraction of the cost of a traditional try-in.
If we get the denture right the first time the doctor wins with fewer appointments and less cost by not having to pay for a traditional try-in. If we are off, the doctor wins by getting it dialed in for much less than the cost of a try in. It's a win-win scenario for the doctor either way. What is also great about this is that the reverse reset only needs to be purchased when required and not in advance of knowing if it is necessary or not.
