Really appreciated your early discussion on bonding with an amp. Have been through that journey myself, almost feeling ashamed finding myself not aligning well with a few high end amps that are considered the best by others. Then finding the right match where it was not expected.
Great video, love the sound of the Huber, it instantly caught my ear such a lovely top end , never heard something quite like that from a les paul or humbuckers in general I think you made a great choice looks cool on your wall :D
These type of vids are really great man ! sometimes honestly its too long but this one for example i watched it all. So please just do what feels best for your with each > episode? < video. Feels like going with a friend to the guitar shop and talk gear. Very enjoying :D Without 'attacking" the new guitar vibes ( glad u find something u bond with better than with the amp ) the only thing that for me it lacks is the more detailed inlays. Most LPs in general don't have them. Think Scala guitars, his have such crazy colored/aged inlays, personally I love that, thats my ideal fretboard ;D Would be cool if u know someone with a scala to make an episode about it someday!
Hi James. Hope 🙏 you can find your dream guitar. I myself never have I've always had to take drastic action and modify my guitar's to suit my ergonomic and sonic profile. Good luck on😅 your sonic journey. Best regards. John.
I do enjoy these videos, though their greatest value for me is that I get the vicarious pleasure of shopping without the spend and regret. Thankyou for this service! Btw I preferred the blonde tele - the red was just too dark sounding for me, it was missing the characteristic twang. I play a lot of jazz, and I just roll back the tone a little - there’s not really anywhere to go with a tele that is already a little darker.
well I got to the end and the black beauty still wins for me haha, But I see where your coming from on the middle pickup thing and id probably look for a similar bridge pickup sound and aged vibe in another CS Les Paul.
I saw somewhere, could have been youtube, that Fender are still using some of the original machinery that they used to help build guitars back in the day...check it out. I bought the Dan Drive Austin Pride on the strength of that particular content you showed...excellent fuzz (expensive fuzz). Rock n Roll! 😃
That Les Paul Custom is beautiful - I played a murphy lab 2 pickup 57 model at the start of the year and haven't been able to get it out of my head for the longest time
Having watched this again, I think you will go back and get the red DW Tele. I did the same last week.....bought another perfectly good guitar but returned it for the one that I couldn't really afford but knew I had to have it. The Huber is great, but if you can stretch to it get the one that makes your pulse race!!
I believe you made the right choice. You shouldn’t have any regrets. I’m not going to tell you from a keyboard which guitar you should of bought. You were there, your hands and ears know and that’s all that matters. Brand, color, vibe are not important unless one is a collector. For example, I’ve owned a CS Strat, and four Gibson Historic RI’s (one actually a pre Historic ‘59 RI). Unfortunately because I couldn’t find them locally to try I was confined to buying them online. They’re all gone now. The magic just wasn’t there. My number one is actually a partscaster which was put together in the early 80’s from a mix of Fender and Dimarzio (San Dimas) parts. The playability and tone from that guitar never ceases to amaze me. My hands are always way out in front of my brain whenever I play it.
A tough choice between the Orca and that red Tele. I'd probably give the Tele the edge from the recordings you made, but both were exceptional. Looking forward to part 2...
Huber was the choice. Especially after comparison to the one you brought. Black Les paul Custom cuts better than the Tele to my ear interestingly. Murphy Lab is on fire at the moment. And really what looks better than a Black Beauty with a Bigsby? It sounded better acoustically as well compared to the Tele.
Sound wise the red bound edge tele jumped out at me .. shocked at the price of master built i would say over priced ..your playing is really improving…nice noodling👍
I thought the regular team build Tele you liked (in black) sounded very lively yet smooth like the Dale Wilson Tele. So I would definitely try them both back to back again. Especially as the prices are getting really silly for Master built now. My ‘60 DaleWilson Tele cost $5800 in 2020. I know I was getting steal deals at the time in Portland, but new UK drops coming in at £12,000!!! 😮 It’s got to stop. Andertons talked to me about this recently saying they are going to have to cut profits by selling at lower prices, because they recognise the prices are getting to an insane tipping point where their customer base is drying up. Anyway… I picked up the blonde ‘51 HS Tele model earlier this year and she is a dirty beast of a guitar. Bags of attitude. The ‘53 models with reverse control plate are great too. A touch smoother and maybe a little more articulation with having a lower wind blackguard bridge (the ‘51 model has hotter crushed blackguard bridge). The ‘51 has a soft V neck whereas the ‘53 has a large C. I can see you having a lot of fun with a HS Tele when you find one that speaks to you. They have a real fat and gritty vibe. Lookin’ forward to hearing your thoughts on the second Peach visit coming… 👍
Congrats on the new guitar. An interesting journey and enjoyed the various dilemmas and comparisons. Q. With the Gibson Murphy labs. Assume had the checking on the neck? Did you notice it feeling bumpy/ uneven as a result. Been looking at one online and curious if this is an issue??
…yes if you feel for it on the neck, but no it doesn’t bother when playing. The checking is typically even across the neck but remains relatively smooth. But each guitar can be unique and you won’t know if it’s to your liking until you try some specimens yourself. I’ve only played Ultra Light and Light Aged but they feel fine to me.
You need to try a Jaguar awesome guitars 24 scale awesome tremelo rolling tone down and volume neck pickup awesome sound give it a try or a jazzmaster you be suprised if you never played one
Great vid as always. I picked up a near identical Dale Wilson 52 from Coda this weekend. I am really enjoying the fat U neck it seems more comfortable somehow despite me having smallish hands. Dale's gear is getting seriously expensive now but having tried a few think he and Van Trigt are on a different level. I also have the Joey landreth two rock and am enjoy it now, but have been through similar emotions!
The neck on the Dale Wilson is quite something. I tried it on Wednesday when it first came in last week. In my head it was a complete turn off being rather block like, even for a U… and yet with the oil finish it was sooo slick and comfortable. Quite unique I thought. But I wasn’t in the right head space to pursue a Dale Wilson level instrument anyway as I was there on a mission with HS Tele comparisons. Plus I have to ask… Is the low E string alignment ok for you. I was surprised to find it was too close to the edge of the fret board. I hope it is fine for you and maybe their tech managed to shift the neck angle slightly to allow a little space to avoid slipping off the fretboard. Hope it’s all good now and you have a great time with it. It does sound fantastic. On the subject of the JL Sig… this weekend I tried mixing cabs with the amp for the first time. I have to say playing the amp through a standard TR 2x12, it responds and feels a lot more familiar than the 3x10. I preferred it to be honest. It was a much more open tone and more dynamic vibe to my ears/touch. It just reminded me how we should at least try different cabs to get a feel for how the experience can change through any given choice of amp. Cheers
…and out of curiosity what weight is the Dale Wilson? Doug had only just got it out of it’s delivery box when I was with him so he didn’t know, but it did feel quite light maybe a little under 7lbs?
@@djt6546 I haven't weighed it but am sure under 7lb. And yes I thought the low e was slipping too on the rounded frets, but is sorted it with a slight loosen to neck and the bridge (and perhaps me getting used to it more). Great guitar though really enjoying it.
@@robhill6859Good stuff and now (through this video) I’ve realised the cost of new Dale Wilson’s coming in… hats off to Doug selling his Dale Wilson stock at a lower price point. Looking at the same model at Peach, that must make you smile even more 🤗Enjoy your guitar and stick with the JL sig trying different cabs/speakers when you can. Let me know if you come across certain cab/speaker pairings that hit a sweet spot with the amp. 👍
I have that same issue tbh!! If you need to for financial reasons then you'll have to really go through the horrible process of picking your favourite kids. Sorry, i mean guitars/amps

Hi Not sure i understand; ur sayin the 335 is too bright on the top end (which imo is true of nost 335 with unpotted A3/A5 PU because of the maple construction; not the case with A2 or potted PU imo); but then u say it would good for "jazzy stuff". Usually u dont want something to bright on the top end for jazz; waddya mean then?
I didn’t find it too bright in the neck position - which i imagine would be good for jazz. But in the bridge position I did and for me that is an issue i’ve often found and especially in gibsons. I don’t like potted pickups that much and even with A2, like i had made for my r9, the brightness of the guitar can still be hard to tame. Overall that 335 was nowhere near as bright as some i’ve tried but i didn’t really find i connected with it either. Cheers
Gonna be real with you mate, I don't personally feel like the current crop of masterbuilders really live up to that title to such a degree that I think the current prices are justified. That title originally popped up when the first round of folks had sort of 'graduated' past the second group, but they were folks who had also been part of the initial training done when Fender fixed their shit in the 80s post move. There is genuinely something special about getting a very early JW Black or whatever. I get that. The current group in 10 years no one is going to really care, at least that's my expectation. The price is going up from 10 to 12 grand? OK. Fine. Some of them really are great but that kind of money puts you into a group of builders whose names will be remembered decades from now. That is a fully decked out Lentz Sr, or a Gil Yaron. JMO. When team builts were 3K I was absolutely there for it. Now? Well youre in the same country as my favorite bolt on builder (SVL).
an interesting point to think on! i can't argue that the prices are not justified - they are mad! But saying that I love my Wilson strat, and my Thorn one too. I feel with the relic work - which I do like - it has come a long way and looks better than ever. Ultimately for me it is about what guitar you bond with when playing over any other consideration though
It was a no contest in my ears that red tele should of been the buy. Stupid expensive but you only live once. I don’t see the point in looking for a les paul thing that isn’t a les paul. Congrats either way always good to see a purchase.

Peach Guitars delivery service sucks! I paid them £1,339.00 for a Schechter, and they sent it via a white van man who forged a signature and left it out in a doorway on the other side of town for 4 hours before he got the message and brought it to me. I was going frantic! I'll never use them again. I should stress that the people I spoke to were fine - it is the system I am angry about. Cheap delivery for what was to me a very expensive instrument. Not good enough.
