    I’m not sure if it’s the same or not in Japanese, but in Korean grammar, verbs are always at the end of the sentence, so that’s why they always put more emphasis and drama on the last word of their sentences. Their pattern of inflection always confused me until I learned that 😂

      Yes, both Korean and Japanese are Subject-Object-Verb. In fact, syntax is the main reason why many people want to put Korean and Japanese in the same sprachbund ('linguistic area').

      indeed, not to say that being able to change so fluidly between them requires a lot of knowledge of all three languages. entonation makes up a bigger portion of an accent than pronunciation does, and it's something no grammar book or course will teach you!

    This is such an important part of speaking a language, and yet I’ve never heard it mentioned in a language class. You’re not speaking the language correctly until you have the intonation and you’re acting and even making faces a certain way.

    The lyricism of spoken Japanese displays emotions so expressively. As someone who has a hard time reading people, I appreciate that quality. You can hear clearly in your English examples that the language's neutral tone is borderline sarcastic in nature if you think to apply that context to it, and even as a native English speaker, I feel this way often about the way many people speak in everyday life.

Japanese is a very high-context language - they drop the pronouns half the time so if you translate what they're saying, you'll find somewhat vague sentences that only make sense when you take into consideration the conversation itself, who is talking to whom and their relationship.

I have a friend who speaks Bengali at home and I’ve met several other Bengali speakers of the same gender and age range, and they all have a very specific melodic cadence when speaking English, which I can only imagine comes from the intonation and cadence with which Bengali is spoken????
