What I did there is touching the string with the side of the pick, that creates a really sharp sound, and then in the DAW I Put more gain to that specific noise and also raised it up an octave.

But another thing that you have to consider is that Steve Vai was also taught by Joe Satriani another guitarist that is precise with the whammy bar
Well he's a master of his craft. It sounds simple yet it's so hard to execute. This is the only guy that I've ever seen execute his style well
