Thank you for sharing these stories. I also did a trial of Clearview 3 multifocal for my patients and had a similar experience to you in that the ones who did well were extraordinarily happy, but some had some blurring at near. My own concern due to the sensitivity of centration, and the results you shared in your update videos on it helped me anticipate that it might be an issue and so I limited my trial to a very small cohort. I since came to the same conclusion you did and no longer offer this lens as other lenses offered more consistency in full range vision with less complaints.

I don,t have access to Clearview 3 IOL . I was one of or the first surgeon in my country to use Restore and now Panoptix lenses . Since the Rayone EMV was launched i have used plenty of them . Aiming for mini mono-vision gets excellent results ,with many happy patients . I have only removed one from one patient’s dominant eye .Panoptix is still a first choice as a multifocal .Any of the other Edof lenses i don,t use any more .

Thank you for this review. It confirms what I already suspected about the Clearview. Personally the two lens which interest me most at the moment are the Puresee and the Galaxy IOL. However I am still collecting feedback about those IOLs. I look forward to seeing more reviews such as this.

Based on your earlier advice, I had Panoptix lenses inplanted in 2021. Best decision I've ever made. I see perfectly at all ranges and for the first time in my life, I'm totally free from glasses and contacts. Night halos were apparent to a small degree initially but as of today, I don't even notice them. Literally a life changing experience.

Thank you for your unbiased thorough comparative evaluations. This effort is of significant value to patients and ophthalmologists alike.
How did you align the ClearView3 with the visual axis. I have implanted about 50 aided with Alcon’s DMM and I rotate it so that the visual axis is just inside the distance zone. We have not had the kinds of negative issues you report, at least so far.

    • @ShannonWongMD

All clearview 3 that were implanted had the distance segment aligned with the visual axis at the time of surgery. I did not notice any postop IOL rotations.

I had the same experience with the Tecnis multifocal lens. I get halos around lights at night time. I also get shadows around printed letters on paper. I also have no intermediate focus. My ophthalmologist recommended this lens and to be honest I wish he hadn’t. I would’ve been much happier with just a good quality monofocal lens. I wish he hadn’t painted such a rosy picture for this lens. I really applaud you and encourage you to continue to be honest and transparent with your clients.

Hi Dr. Wong, Thank you so much for your amazing videos. I am scheduled for cataract surgery in March. After researching I decided on the Panoptix premium lens for at least one eye, and maybe a monofocal distance lens in the other depending on the halos at night issue.

I find this information very disconcerting. I opted for the ClearView 3 based on Dr. Wong's recommendation last year. The ClearView 3 has been used for over 10 years in other countries. I am rather surprised that based on the previous 10 years of time that these issues were not already brought to light. I myself have gotten used to the shadows and don't notice them now. I do wish that my reading vision was clearer as I do wear 1.50 reading glasses. But, I can still read J1+ when I focus. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my vision, especially at night, because I would say that my night vision is just as good as before the lens replacement. Still, I guess I should have gone with the J&J Odyssey instead. I don't think my night vision would be as good as with the ClearView 3. But you can't argue with only a 2% dissatisfaction rate.

I don’t like to comment; however, I had the Clearview 3 lense put in on Jan 4th at Petelin Vision based on your raving reviews. I was their first. My experience with the new lense has been awful. I am having all the sside effects you mention in this video. Thank you so much for communicating the negative results of Clearview3. I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and I will share this video and hopefully they can correct this. I am a CPA and need my eyes. Currently I am trying to get by with cheaters but far and night vision isn’t good either.

Really interesting info you shared about Lasik correction not matching the trial frame. About what percentage of patients were unhappy after Lasik correction do you think? I recently had RLE surgery with Odyssey and I was told by the surgeon "We may have missed the target" after measuring my vision. I am now 1 week post op and still I see a hazy view of the world where vision is lacking sharpness. So now I may be facing either a Lasik correction or IOL exchange for a different lens power. Any advice for me?

My patients have excellent vision far and near, day and night, some wearing glasses, some not, on top of a B&L LI61AO. 😅
I have explanted exactly one. The patient was very successful with CL monovision but didn’t like it surgically. So we swapped out the reader IOL lens for a distance. That was the only problem ever with an LI61AO. Spending hours of Chair time trying to placate unhappy multifocal IOL patients is history for me. No longer doing it.

    Dr. Wong,
I'm not your patient, but I certainly wish it was so back when I had Cataract surgery on my right eye. Perhaps I would have been one of your success stories. But I'm still living with dissatisfaction of "two" outcome(s) for this eye. And no, I've not had C.surgery for the Left eye yet. I'm scared to do so after what I went through on the first one. And yes, there was an exchange performed for the Right eye. But it was because the the doctor that did the prelim plan missed the most important notation by my Optometrist, that I had very strong Astigmatism! So they installed a general-type of lens. Upon which I faced a second surgery for an exchange.
But my main reason for writing is, that I do not believe the subsequent implanted brand of Toric lens was the right one. Since I'm just a lowly patient, could you elaborate on types of lens implants which are useful for my situation? The attending surgeon who did the exchange was pretty adamant, that I wasn't a candidate for any further surgeries on the R-eye! But I can tell you, the eye is no where near what it used to be before the first surgery. I have extreme light sensitivity, and blurring which is on again, off again all day long. And I was left with a huge floater which refuses to dissipate after more than four years!
I have an office visit with another surgeon in March. I'm realistic but hopeful for something to improve my current vision. There's more going on with this eye than I'd like to relate on this forum.

Than you. That was very sincere and useful. Do you charge the surgeon fee or the facility fee to the patient or insurance for a iol exchange if patient is unhappy? Meaning is the patient charged anything at all for the second (lasik) or third surgery (iol exchange)?

    • @ShannonWongMD
      @ShannonWongMD  3 дня назад +7

The fees we charge for premium cataract or lens replacement surgery cover the surgeon’s fee, operating room/surgical center fee, anesthesia fees, and additional refractive surgical procedures (Eg YAG capsulotomy, LASIK, intraocular lens exchange not including the light adjustable lens) for one year after the original surgical date

If I am willing to have glasses as I normally do, and considering only do surgery on one eye, will mono oil be safer, higher satisfaction rate than multi focal iol? Thank you.

"Clareon" is the acrylic material that Alcon uses to manufacture its single piece acrylic lenses. The clareon material has been in use for about 2-3 years. Over that span of time, it appears to age better than Alcon lenses made prior to clareon.
